What is E-Commerce?
Electronic Commerce, also known as E-Commerce is making purchases
or selling products through the usage of the internet. Customers now
have an easy access to the products that are high in demand by checking
online stores, wherein this action could be done by devices such as
computer and mobile phones.

The first e-commerce company opened in 1982. Its main purpose is to be

able to sell the old or used computers from an online market. Following
by Amazon, created by Jeff Bezos in 1995. And in 1998, PayPal was
created as an e-commerce payment system.

For the starting world of e-commerce, there are different types:

1. Business-to-business (B2B) – It refers to the exchanging of
transaction between businesses.
2. Business-to-consumer (B2C) – Also considered as the “retail” of
the e-commerce. A transaction between business and consumers.
3. Consumer-to-consumer (C2C) – This is where consumers do the
trading of their products. Mostly seen on online platforms like
Facebook.
4. Consumer-to-business (C2B) – The products of consumers are
only available or sold to businesses.
5. Business-to-administration (B2A) – An online transaction between
the company and administration/government.
6. Consumer-to-administration (C2A) – An online transaction
between a consumer and administration/government.
7. Mobile e-commerce – It features the transactions that were made
using mobile phones.
E-Commerce in the
Contemporary World
Nowadays, e-commerce became a convenient tool for every user from
the internet. It dramatically evolved as the new decade started off with
the internet growth. An example of this is how eBay and Amazon
became the spotlight of the e-commerce world during 2017. And thus,
years later, there were other businesses tried to engage with the e-
commerce world and adapt with the movements.

In the Philippines, some of the following platforms such as Lazada,

Shopee, and Zalora has sold goods for the past years. And much more
when the pandemic began. Due to the protocol reasons, e-commerce
contributed to the convenience by purchasing daily necessities even
without the need of going out.

According to a research from December 2021, Shopee gained more

monthly web visits compared to Lazada. It was also prominent to see
advertisements popping to social media platforms like Facebook and
Instagram, sometimes the ads are according from your last searches
which convinces the consumers to purchase the product.

How will E-Commerce
help in the future?
As E-commerce went on a drastic economic growth within the century,
being it as a new movement of how economy flows across the globe
would turn as the “new normal” for the next century.

I. Global e-commerce will grow. It is possible that for the next 5

years or so, online shopping would be more viable than physical
shopping.

II. Automation will boost the productivity and growth. The rising
invention of AI devices, and self-assisting machines does a
faster transaction than how normal workers would do.

III. The voice commerce will help build its path to an “automated
commerce.” 45% of the Millennials became comfortable with
using Google Home or Amazon’s Alexa for their needed
activities like shopping.

IV. PWAs are pushing the improvement with mobile commerce.

When traditional web pages are developing an app for the
convenience of mobile users, it gives a user experience that may
or may not be faster and reliable in most times.

V. Customer experience is now significant for the development.

While at the midst of a pandemic, companies would need to
strive for the best products as possible to meet the consumers
standards, even when far away.
