INTRODUCTION THESIS WRITING PRACTICUM

A. Title : THE USE OF IMAGE MEDIA IN INCREASING THE


ABILITY TO WRITE NEWS TEXTS OF CLASS XII
STUDENTS OF PRIVATE VOCATIONAL SCHOOL
AL - MADANI PONTIANAK
B. Background
General Issue : In language learning there are two types of skills, namely
productive and receptive. Productive language can be
interpreted as language produced by humans, such as writing
and speaking, while receptive language is the meaning of
symbols, symbols of language sounds, an example in this case
is listening or hearing and reading. These skills are closely
related to one another. in good writing must have good reading
skills as well. This means that writing skills cannot stand alone
without reading. As well as speaking and listening skills. To be
a good listener must also have a good speaker too.

The ultimate goal in the principles of language learning is for


students to be skilled in language, these skills include reading
skills, writing skills, listening skills, speaking skills. One of the
important skills in learning a language is skill write. Through
writing skills students can communicate their ideas,
appreciation, and experiences in written form

Specific issue : Writing skills are acquired through regular training and
practice. In general, the meaning of writing is to put ideas,
ideas and opinions into writing. According to Hargrove and
Pottet (1998:239) writing is an attempt to describe thoughts,
ideas, feelings in the form of symbols. Writing means organize
ideas systematically and expressly.
News text is one of the various types of writing. News text is a
news script contains facts about the incident events that are hot,
interesting and important to most people conveyed through
periodic media such as newspapers, radio or television online
media.
Writing news text has various levels of difficulty, that is can be
caused by several factors. One of them is learning to write that
teachers give to students too monotonous and does not vary so
students are less motivated to understand more about learning
to write

Proposal : Based on this researcher trying to implement the use of media


expected image capable improve students' writing skills,
Stimulate mindset, insight and student reasoning. The aim of
this study to describe (1) learning steps with using image
media, (2) use of deep image media improve text writing
skillsnews from students of class XII at SMKS Al - Madani
Pontianak (3) the response of class XII students at SMKS Al -
Madani Pontianak to use of deep image media learning to write
news text.

C. Research Problems : Can the use of media images improve the ability to write
news texts for class XII students at Al-Madani Private
Vocational High School Pontianak?

D. Research Purpose : Based on this researcher trying to implement the use of media
expected image capable improve students' writing skills,
Stimulate mindset, insight and student reasoning. The aim of
this study to describe (1) learning steps with using image
media, (2) use of deep image media improve text writing
skillsnews from students of class XII at SMKS Al - Madani
Pontianak (3) the response of class XII students at SMKS Al -
Madani Pontianak to use of deep image media learning to write
news text.

F. GAP/Novelty : a. Based on the 5 studies above, one of the gaps in this


study is that the Portfolio assessment method for
student learning outcomes is only implemented in
formal schools.
b. Researchers conducted research at universities, with
courses that focused on writing skills.

G. Outline of the : Classroom Action Research


methodology of the The research method uses Classroom Action Research,
study namely school-based research. This research was
conducted to obtain information on how the school
teaches. The information obtained will be collected with
the aim of gaining understanding, developing reflective
practices and educational practices to improve student
learning outcomes.
In classroom action research there are several processes as
follows according to Kemmis and Taggart (in
Wiriaatmadja, 2012, p. 66) namely planning (plan), action
(act), observation (observe), and reflection (reflect).
Through this process the problems encountered so far in
learning can be resolved and is a strategic way to improve
performance for teachers through experience gained
reflectively.

H. Site of Research : Private Vocational School Al – Madani Pontianak


I. Population : Class XII students of Private Vocational High School Al -
Madani Pontianak.

Writing is an activity of expressing ideas, ideas, thoughts
or feelings in writing, writing activities can be carried out
in various forms or types depending on the purpose of
writing itself. According to Rahadi
(Kusumaningsidkk,2013:65)
Writing is "the activity of conveying something using
language through writing, with certain intentions and
considerations to achieve something desired". Writing is a
form of thinking, but it is thinking for certain responders
and for certain situations as well.
Tarigan (2013: 22)
explains that Writing is lowering or depicting graphic
symbols that describe a language that is understood by
someone, so that other people can read the graphic
symbols

N. Research Variable : Qualitative Descriptive,


O. Technique Data Qualitative Descriptive, Mixed Methods.
Analysis Research Design
The design in this study uses descriptive research. This
research uses 1 variable so that the qualitative method
approach is very suitable. Sugiyono (2012: 13) describes
descriptive research, namely research to determine the
value of an independent variable, either one variable or
more (independent) without making comparisons, or
connecting with other variables. Researchers use this
approach because it presents data systematically, and facts
are accurate. Aims to explain, describe and explain in
detail about the problem under study. Suharsimi Arikunto
(2013: 3) explains the meaning of descriptive research,
namely research to investigate circumstances, conditions
or other matters, which are then translated into research
reports. In this study, there are phenomena in the form of
forms, characteristics, activities, changes, relationships,
similarities and differences between one phenomenon and
another
.
P. Hyphothesis : Action Hypothesis
It is suspected that the use of image media can improve
the ability to write English news texts for Class XII of Al
- Madani Vocational High School Pontianak.
