Introduction
The COVID-19 pandemic has been declared a public health emergency of
worldwide concern by the World Health Organization (WHO). COVID-19 is the most
significant challenge these expanding national education institutions have ever faced.
This epidemic cause severe on people's lives all across the world.
As one of several measures taken to prevent the spread of the virus, many
governments closed schools for several weeks or months. Although school closures
are considered to be one of the most efficient interventions to curb the spread of the
virus (Haug et al., 2020)
During the prevention of the spread of the virus the COVID-19 pandemic, change
took place suddenly of learning. Distance learning is a good substitute when physical
or face-to-face programs or courses are no longer feasible. Applying online learning
or e-Learning requires students readiness to study independently, individual learning,
readiness of online learning facilities, and psychological preparedness for changes in
distance.
E-learning consists of learning through digital resources. In this modality, students
use technology such as computers or latop and phone or tablet in order to learn.
In this research our main goal is to know the effects of technology to senior high
students academic performance. We conducted this to know if using technology is
helpful or distraction.
Conceptual Framework
It shows the relationship between the variable of the study. The dependent variable is
the academic performance of the Senior High students while the independent variable
is the technology such as computers, laptops, and cellphone or tablet. It tells about
how the academic performance of the senior high students may be affected by the
technology
This study attempted to evaluate and comprehend the effects of technology to the
senior high students of Macabaclay National High School.
Specifically this study required to answer the following questions:
1. How technology may affect the senior high students academic performance during
distance learning modality
2 Is technology helpful or distraction to senior high students
3. How does technology significantly affect the academic performance of senior high
students?
Hypothesis
There is significant relationship between technology and the senior high students
academic performance of Macabaclay National High School during distance learning
modality.
Definition of Terms
In this study, the following terms were written to clarify the meaning of the words
use and to provide a frame of reference and a clear interpretation of the study.
In this part, the researchers identify the effects of technology to senior high students
academic performance. It is conducted at Macabaclay National High School
Bongabon, Nueva Ecija during the second semester of S.Y 2021-2022.
Chapter II
Review of Related Literature and Studies
This chapter presents the related literature and studies, foreign and local which
provided the researcher the needed information and direction for the completion of the
study.
Foreign Literature
Lynne Schrum, past president of the International Society for Technology in
Education (ISTE), is an associate professor in the department of instructional
technology at the University of Georgia. Her research, teachings, and writings focus
on issues related to distance education, specifically online learning.
Schrum also investigates the uses of technology in K-12 environments and identifies
ways to support educators in the effort. Educators want students to learn. She said that
It is certainly not enough to tell educators that they need to use the boxes and wires
that have invaded their schools simply because they are expensive or because students
need to know how to use the latest widget. If it's clear that technological tools will
help them achieve that goal, educators will use those tools. Technology lends itself to
exploration. But before technology can be used effectively, exploration must be
valued as important to both teaching and learning.
In a technology-rich classroom, students might search the Web for information,
analyze river water, chart the results, and record what they've learned on the
computer. In such an environment, acquiring content changes from a static process to
one of defining goals the learners wish to pursue. Students are active, rather than
passive -- producing knowledge and presenting that knowledge in a variety of
formats.
Bob Wise a former governor of West Virginia and president of the Alliance for
Excellent Education, an advocacy organization, said that "You can't just slap a
netbook [computer] on top of a textbook and say, 'Great, now we have technology,"
Good teaching, especially the kind that involves working with evolving technologies,
sometimes requires good advice. "The whole intention of Digital Learning Day is to
really celebrate teachers and good instructional learning practices," says Sarah Hall,
director of the Alliance's Center for Secondary School Digital Learning and Policy.
Chapter III
Methodology
This chapter describes the method of the study, data gathering, procedure and
statistical treatment used in the study in order to have a reliable analysis and
interpretation of data.
Research Design
Descriptive method of research was used by the researchers. It is used to describe
the characteristics of a population or phenomenon being studied. According to Ed
Forest (2001) Descriptive research does not fit neatly into the definition of either
quantitative or qualitative research methodologies, but instead it can utilize elements
of both, often within the same study. The term descriptive research refers to the type
of research question, design, and data analysis that will be applied to a given topic.
Descriptive statistics tell what is, while inferential statistics try to determine cause and
effect.
According to Devin Kowalczyk (2013)a correlation is simply defined as a
relationship between two variables. The whole purpose of using correlations in
research is to figure out which variables are connected
A research and development study utilized the recommendation that proposed and
developed after finding out the effects of technology to senior high students academic
performance.
Research Locale
This study conducted at Macabaclay National High School which is located at
Barangay Macabaclay, Bongabon Nueva Ecija. It is approximately three (3)
kilometers from the town proper. The school opened as Bongabon National High
School Annex in 1999, and in 2002 it became Macabaclay National High School.
The school has thirty seven (37) teachers, five (5) staffs, three (3) helpers. It also
has 18 classrooms in junior and Senior High school, (3) Home Economics (HE), two
(2) laboratory, one (1) School Canteen.
Macabaclay National High School has 954 Junior High School Students and 268

students that finds technology useful in their study.
5. There were 1.15% dis-agree, 56.07% Agree, and 42.77% strongly dis-agree
in a question/ statement to student that finds technology as distraction.
6. There were 45.09% dis-agree,and 54.91% agree in a question/statement to
the student that increase their productivity by using technology.
7. There were 9.24% strongly dis-agree, 24.85% dis-agree 53.17% agree, and

the students that helps them in their academic performance by using
technology.
9. There were 26.01% agree, and 73.98% strongly agree in a
question/statement to the student that enables them to accomplish task more
quickly by using technology.
10. There were 16.18% strongly dis-agree, 45.66% agree, and 38.15% in a
question/statement to a student that increasing their chances of getting better
grades by using technology.
Conclusion
By conducting the research, it helped us to achieve the following results:
The technology affects the senior high student in positive ways in which means
that the
senior high students using the technology correctly and attain learning with the help
of it.
Most of the respondents used technology properly, they used technology to help
them in terms of their academic performance. Most of the respondents have 80-84
average,
The level of performance of the studens are satisfactory. The effects of
technology and the average of the senior students has significant relationship.
Technology is making a positive impact on education overal. In conclusion,
technology somehow positively affects the students they are able to attain their
grades and also to learn different things with the help of it.
Recommendation
The present study has shown that many students are relying on technology for thei
racademic needs. It is recommended that future studies should continue to monitor
students usage and attitudes toward technology. It is also important that we study how
to best support those students who are not using the technology. Future studies are
needed to address how using technology may contribute to the long-term retention of
knowledge and acquisition of skills such as interpersonal communication,
psychomotor (a skill that requires the involvement of bothmental and physical
abilities), and cognitive skills within different courses.
There are some limitations to this study, although the focus of this study was the
effects of technology to the student’s academic performance. It would also be
beneficial to conduct the survey with administrators, instructors, and other related
personnel. Students' degree ofexperience in using technology might have been
specifically measured. The researchers recommend to get validators who are expert in
the field and at the same time who are teaching so that the validators may consider the
level of comprehension of theres pondents with regards to technicality of the study
being conducted for the validation of the questionnaire
