Venus
Satellites
A lot of satellites were sent to venus before, such as:
- Magellan, it was launched by NASA on May 4th, 1989, its scientific objective was to orbit Venus and
map the planets surface and reveal information about its geology and tectonic activity.
- Venus Express, the project was created by the European Space Agency, its purpose was to orbit Venus
and study its atmosphere, climate and plasma environment, it did that from 2006 to 2014.
- Akatsuki, launched by JAXA (Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency), it entered orbit around Venus in
2015 and it studied the planet’s atmosphere and weather patterns.

Landers
Some examples of landers in Venus are:
- Venera 13, a Soviet spacecraft, which landed on March 1, 1982, and transmitted data for
about 2 hours before succumbing to the harsh environment.
- Venera 7, launched on December 15, 1970, part of the Soviet Union Program and its main
objective was to study the atmosphere and surface of Venus.
- Vega, a joint mission between the soviet union and the european space agency, which
sent two landers to Venus in 1985, the landers were sent to study the surface and return
data.

Future Missions
- DAVINCI+ (Deep Atmosphere Venus
Investigation of Noble gases, Chemistry,
and Imaging).
- A project by NASA.
7
Discoveries
- Venus has extreme
surface temperature of
over 460 degrees.

Jupiter
Spacecrafts
There have been many satellites sent to orbit jupiter, a few notable examples are:
⋆ Cassini - NASA/ESA Mission to Saturn via Jupiter (1997)
⋆ Ulysses - NASA/ESA Mission to study the solar wind via Jupiter (1990)
⋆ Galileo Orbiter - NASA Mission to Jupiter (1989), its objective was to study the atmosphere
Since Jupiter is a gas giant it is impossible to land anything on it because there is nowhere to
land.

Discoveries
⋆ 1610: Galileo Galilei makes the first detailed observation of Jupiter.
⋆ 1973: The Pioneer 10 spacecraft becomes the first to cross the asteroid belt
and fly close to Jupiter.
⋆ 1979: The Voyagers 1 and 2 discover that Jupiter has a few faint rings orbiting
it

Future plans
Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (2023)
It is expected to launch in 2023
and, after a series of flybys in the
inner Solar System, arrive in 2031.
