LISTENING TASK
(September, 2022)
On Thursday, September 8 at the Baguio City Police Office-Camdas Police Station, Reneval Ponce,
31, of Bacolod Municipal admitted to his involvement in the crime in the presence of a lawyer. Ponce
acknowledged his involvement in the crime but said Hesim's death was the fault of another. Reneval
Ponce, popularly known as "Eminem," was also charged with drug offenses after an investigation
revealed that the suspects had used shabu before meeting the victim, according to city police chief Col.
Glenn Lonogan.
On August 29, according to Ponce, he saw Hesim in a Facebook group for masseuses and asked
for her profile picture and phone number. After agreeing on a price for a massage, Ponce gave Hesim the
go-ahead to meet him in Trancoville. The victim was last seen alive as they made their way to his
boarding house. Eminem, who stiffed the victim and pleaded with Ponce to renegotiate her payment,
was presented to Hesim by Ponce as soon as Hesim entered Room 202. The victim took a blow from
Eminem to the stomach, which left her in agony. Hesim was held by Ponce as she duct taped her hands
and lips. The victim was stripped naked, knocked to the ground, and then physically attacked by Eminem
while Hesim fought and begged for her life. Ponce claimed he felt panic and fled to a corner of the room
while Eminem turned Hesim over and kneeled on her back. Hesim's legs stopped thrashing, turned limp,
and suffered spasms after Eminem put a belt twice around her neck and violently pulled. According to
Ponce, Eminem rolled Hesim over onto her back and felt her stomach after making sure she was still
breathing.
According to Ponce, they were both drugged up when it all transpired. Before meeting Hesim,
Ponce said that he and Eminem had used shabu. Eminem left Ponce with the victim's body lying naked
on the floor in Puguis in La Trinidad, Benguet, where he was working. He stayed there until September 3
before departing for Pasay City, according to Ponce, who said that he is unsure if the woman was sexually
molested after she was killed. Hesim's body had been found a day after the incident, Eminem informed
Ponce via Facebook Messenger. The Messenger account is no longer active. Hesim was discovered in a
garage in Barangay Alfonso Tabora with duct tape around her mouth, hands, and neck, as well as a belt
around her neck.
Before giving his confession to the investigators of Baguio City Police Office Station 2 and before
being sworn in by Baguio City Prosecutor Immanuel Awisan, Ponce was assisted by attorneys Reinaur
Aluning and Orlando Tenorio Jr. from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Baguio-Benguet Chapter
free legal service and informed of his legal rights. Hesim's cause of death was determined by an autopsy
to be strangling asphyxiation by ligature. On Monday, September 5, Branch 7 Regional Trial Court judge
Cecilia Corazon S. Dulay-Archog issued a search order that led to the recovery of materials that
connected the two suspects to their crimes. Ponce voluntarily surrendered while his live-in partner was
with him to clear her name at the police station on Thursday, Sept. 8, after being connected to Hesim's
killing, according to Major Manuel Canipas Jr., commander of Camdas police station. Eminem's true
identity is still being ascertained by police.
