Assignment 1
Coursework Assignment 1 – Group Project Proposal
The coursework assignment for this module is a group
assignment worth 60% of the overall module mark.
Coursework Brief
 

1. You will be grouped by pathway into groups of 5-6


students. If you wish to work with specific students on your
pathway, please provide Dr Sam Buxton their names by
Thursday 9th
 
2. You will be expected to develop a project proposal based
around a case study brief associated with your pathway.
These briefs can be found here. This link takes you to the
project briefs page on Canvas.
 
3. The document will provide an overview of the company
and all the basic information required for you to complete
the project proposal.
 
4. Additional information searching using relevant internet
resources will also be required.
 
5. This proposal only requires desk based (secondary
research). There is no need or requirement to collect any
primary data.
 

The proposal will draw on content that you have been taught and
exposed to in both lectures and seminars.

1. This section provides a brief overview of the project, including its
purpose, objectives, and key findings

4. Project Description and Problem Statement 1500 words

A. This section provides a detailed explanation of the project


B. Problem Statement
i.    This section defines the problem or opportunity that the project
aims to address. It should provide a clear and concise statement of the
problem, as well as a discussion of the background and context of the
problem. 
ii.    the potential benefits of the project, including how it will address
the problem or opportunity identified in the introduction.
iii.    Background literature should be included here - academic
literature as supporting backgroundiv. Market Analysis of the industry
in which the company sits

5. Aims and Objectives 1000 words

A. Create objectives and aims of the project.


B. Consequences of not completing the set objectives
C. Success criteria – how will you determine that you have achieved
your aims/objectives
D. the potential benefits of the project, including how it will address the
problem or opportunity identified in the introduction

6. Project Implementation, Data Gathering and Evaluation 2000 words

A. Explain what desk-based data sources you will be using and why?
B. Explain what criteria you will use to evaluate how useful the data is
allowing you to achieve your aims and objectives
C. Explain how the project will be implemented, including 
i.    a project schedule, 
ii.    a list of tasks each group member would need to complete 
iii.    milestones, 
iv.    description of the resources
D. Are there any risks and ethical issues to undertaking this project in
relation to: 
i.    Data collection 
ii.    Stakeholders

A. Additional information referred to in the main proposal should be

Word count = 5,000 words

Key Marking criteria will include:


 Executive Summary
o Clear identification of the purpose of the proposal
o An outline of the content to be covered in the proposal
 Project Description and Problem Statement
o Clear identification of the chosen company and proposal
o Discussion of the current situation/problem/opportunity
o Provide clear academic context and appropriate references in which the project
operates
 Aims and Objectives
o Inclusion of aims and objectives and appropriate success criteria and
consequences of the group failing to achieve the objectives

 Project Implementation, Data Gathering and Evaluation


o Understanding of what data sources, you will be using and why
o Understanding of how you will evaluate whether the data source being used is
appropriate for your research question.
o Clear understanding of the timeline of the project including group tasks
o Clear understanding of the resources required to complete this project
o Clear awareness of the risks and ethical issues of the project to the relevant groups

 Quality of Analysis;
o A critical style of writing that looks to provide more than a descriptive account of
the content
 Quality of referencing style:
o APA 7th edition
 Quality of writing:
o Readability and ability to convey key message(s) concisely in a logical manner
within each section
 Quality of Presentation:
o A clearly structured report that is easy for the reader to follow. Headings are used
to set out the sections.

Submission

The main assignment must be submitted by 2pm on Monday 20th March 2023 via
Turnitin.
