What do volcanologists do?
List the jobs a volcanologist does:

● Observing signs of activity on the surface

● Measuring ground temperature and speed of lava flow
● Sampling rocks, lava and ash deposits
● Testing to understand what is happening underground
● Predicting future eruptions and giving advance
warnings
Research & Recording - Group task!
Can you design a special equipments for volcanologist to use on
site?

Scan the qr code to start researching about the special

equipments used by volcanologist.

Then, draw 2 designs of special equipments on A3 art block

Present your designs to the class.

● Talk about my design and discuss any changes that could make the product
better
● Think about how I made the product and say how I could have done better
● Talk about the differences between the design and the product, explaining what
is better because of the changes that happened when the product was being
made.

I am mastering my I am developing my I am beginning my

learning of this skill and still learning of this skill, learning of this skill and
need practise practising regularly need lots of practise

I can: I can: I can:

– Talk about my design and – Talk about how they would – Describe what is the same and
discuss any changes that could change how the product was what is different about the design
make the product better made that would make it better and the product, talk about
whether anything is missing or still
– Think about how I made the – Decide whether the final product needs to be added
product and say how I could have or the original design better meets
done better the needs – Explain the how the design was
improved as the product was
– Talk about the differences being made
between the design and the
product, explaining what is better
because of the changes that
happened when the product was
being made.
Reflect
Does my design meet the needs and purpose identified?

Can I justify and explain my design choices, including why I chose particular materials?

What improvements and changes would I make to my design?
