How to do multiple DVB-TS to 4 DVB-C QAM in 2 RU in a Master
HeadEnd and sent these to 1RU EDGE QAM in the Sub-HE's
In this short note we like to explain how easy it is to Transmodulate DVB Signals into QAM RF Channels
by using our DRD700 Multistream Receiver processor connected to an B-Nova unit and transmit these
Pre-Multiplex to EQM Modulators via IP.
To keep it as short as possible, we only use 2x DVB-T Input streams in the DRD700 and one coming from
IP, sent to the B-Nova and re-sent to EDGE-QAM.
Assumed, that the Quick-Start Manuals have given you the right Idea to address the units by
WebInterFace and its correct Address-Settings. We use the default ones…
The Fault Message appears when only one Power supply has 'juice'.
After time-out or new login it asks for Username/Password. Default is: admin/Blankom (which can be
change to default-PW= Hilkom soon…
Just go to INPUT, and adjust the frequencies, source-port and after the tuner locks to the signal you get
information about all you need: We will use here DVB-T Channels instead of Sat-Channels but basically
that does not make any difference – except in payload of Services per QAM-Channel.
Do the same for the other input sources… 2 used, and status page shows:
You can chose UDP, RTP or ProMPEG, adjust Port and IP-address and pass TS1-2 (and 3+4 if used).
Because we would sent these to the B-Nova, FEC-ProMPEG is an additional HW-Module. In Same short
distance networks like in the same Headend used, FEC-ProMPEG isn't necessary.
With any Receiving Software like VLC, TSREADER or DecTEk please assure that your Windows Firewall is
switched to OFF to allow Multicast streams coming in to the PC.
You can see: The DRD700 SPTS stream carries (additional to normal SPTS-Streams) following parts in
total:
The Channel-Information's are transmitted from the DRD700 by SAP/SDP Protocoll as well according to
the rules written in the SAP/SDP Specifications:
The SAP-Information is transmitted over a Multicast which starts with the same first address-part but on
reserved following numbers: This SPTS comes over 225.1.1.40:1004 the corresponding SAP-Information
are sent on: 225.2.127.254 Port: 9875
This can be captured by an IPTV-Set-Top Box if the first Multicast-Address part is known
(Here 225. x.y.z).
---------------------------------------------------------------- Back to the DVB to IP by DRD700.
We have setup now several DVB-Input streams and converted into MPTS and SPTS. Obviously if the
Transportstreams from SAT or Terrestrial or DVB-C are encrypted, the selectable services can be
decrypted by professional CAM's inserted into the DRD700 CI-Slots and then streamed out.
First Log-IN:
SAVE ->
In the last channel we do cherry picking from all 4 streams and multiplex MPTS1-3 with SPTS1:
Look at outputs:
The QAM-Datarate of 50686 kb/s is related to the QAM-Settings: 8MHz, 256QAM-Mode + Symbolrate
etc… Always assure, to not oversubscribe the channel by adding too many services. You would get a
hint from the B-Nova anyway.
Now we have 4 QAM Channels filled with Content -> Question: What is missing? Right, we need a
Network Information Table: NIT.
Assign Network ID and Name, and chose the installed Modulator Modules which should be included into
the NIT:
Here is the chance to Download/Edit and View the Tables if the PSI-Editor Option has been enabled in
the Chassis.
To be considered: The EQM-Transportstreams need MPTS with CBR. So we adjust this in the B-Nova for
the output streams: in 2 ways:
By edit modulators:
Result:
If you have done that actually to this step with only one Switch not separated the Ethernet-management
– from the Streaming-Ports , You'll get problems to access the units Web-GUI's becaasue they are
overloaded now with several hundred megabits per second!
EIT Data are fluctuating … so sometimes from DVB-T sources need to wait until all are popping up in the
Stream.
Because we already sent the NIT from the B-Nova to the EQM2xy, we do not need to import one from a
separate stream:
and you have now in the Remote-headend QAM channels with High
Performance Digital synthesized Outputs and real more than 45dB MER:
Now, you can Measure and will see these QAM-RF-Outputs are the best you can get @ this high level
output.
