Point 1 ê Photos with One Person
When you first see photos with people, you should determine how many people there are in a picture
and look carefully to find out who they are, where they are, and what they are doing.
If there is only one person in the picture, then the person is the focus of the picture. You should focus
on the person's actions and appearance. More specifically, you should focus on what the person is
looking at, holding, doing, and wearing.

Point 2 ê Photos with Two or More People
In photos with two people or more, the statement describing their common actions or appearances
usually tends to be the correct answer. However, sometimes a statement that describes objects in
the picture or the background is the correct answer.

ê Where are they?
g In a (lecture hall / hallway).
ê What is the man doing?
g He is (speaking to / joining) the audience.
ê What is the audience doing?
g They are (waiting for / listening to) the speaker.

Key Grammar in Listening
Point 1 ê Present Progressive Tense
In Part 1, each statement is usually phrased in the present progressive tense. The present progressive
tense is used to describe the actions of the people in each photograph. This verb tense describes an
action that is happening now and is not finished.

In the statement in Part 1, the subject is said first, and this will tell you who is being talked about.
Listening for the subject will help you choose the correct answer.
