Main events

The main event

of a book is the
section that makes the ending occurs the way it does.

For example, in Cinderella, the main event could be when she

loses her glass slipper at the ball as this it is this event that helps
Prince Charming find Cinderella and marry her.

TASK: Draw the main event from the book and write why you
think it is. Remember, as long as you can back up your point with
a good reason, you cannot be wrong!

Character development

Character development is a fancy way of saying how the character

changes as the story goes on.

Have a think about how you have changed since you started
Thomas Cowley and write 3 sentences to explain how you’ve
changed.
Name: __________________________________________ Date: _________________

Now think about the Millers Daughter. Draw a picture in each

box below to show how she changed during the story and write a
sentence to explain each drawing.

What happened next?

Once you understand how the characters develop, you can then
think about what happens after the story has finished.

TASK 1) What do you think happened after the story finished?

Write your ideas in the box. Make sure you write down evidence
from the story to support your ideas.

TASK 2) Imagine you are a ‘fly on the wall’ in the Millers house.

between the Miller and his daughter (now the Queen) to discuss
what happened with Rumpelstiltskin.

books and other texts in English. It will help you analyse and
explore things from different points of view and understand why
character act the way they do.

TASK: Use the boxes below to compare the Miller and the King.
Think about the way they talk, the way they dress and how they
