OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, 75% of the learners are expected to:
a. Distinguish Simple Past Tense and Simple Future Tense of verb.
b. Apply and explain the importance of these tenses.
c. Write the correct perfect tense of the verb in the sentence.

I. LESSON PROPER

A. ACTIVITY / MOTIVATION

“CHARADES”

The students will be divided into two: Each group will pick a
set of verbs then each members of the group will be acting
what are the set of words they choose. The student from the
last line will come to the board to write what words are being
acted. The game/activity should be completed within 10
minutes.

Set of words:

B. DISCUSSION

Have you enjoyed the game?


Students: Yes, Ma’am
Alright, now, based on the words that you wrote on
the board, what do you think are these?
Student 1: Those are verbs

Very good! Now, what is a verb?


Student 2: a verb is an action words
That is correct! a verb is a parts of speech which
means an action words.
Therefore, for this morning, we will be discussing
about the Simple Tenses of verb.

 Simple Past Tense


- Is expressed by using the second principal part of the
verb which is the past form. It is used to express an
action which happened at a definite time in the past.

Examples:

Ferdinand Magellan rediscovered the Philippines on March


16,1521.

All of the candidates presented their political plans during


their last campaign.

The contestants waited anxiously for the announcement of


winners.

The chairman of the board of judges finally announced the


winners.

 Simple Future Tense


- Is expressed by using will/ shall plus the present form
of the verb to show action that will happen in the
future time like tomorrow, soon, next year, next week,
and others.

Examples:

The President will recommend her secretary for the


newly created position tomorrow.

I shall see if I can attend the seminar next week.

No one will question your decision.

We shall conduct the interview at the Guidance


Office.

Can you give an example of a sentences using the simple past


and future tense?
Student 2: I will wake up at 5:30 am tomorrow.

Student 3: My mother gave me money for my snack.

Student 4: I shall bring you lots of flower.

Student 5: I introduced myself to the class lately.


D. DEEPENING

What are the importance of Simple Past and Future tense to


your daily life as a student? Students’ answers may vary

- As a student, the importance of knowing the Simple


Past and Future tense is that it helps you to improve
your grammar especially that you are practicing the
English language. Also, if you know how to
determine these tenses and knows how to use these in
a sentence, it makes/ helps you improve your writing.
