The Fulfillment of Prophecies - Adonai Media
We are in the last days, when there will be prophecies and the fulfilment of prophecies.
However we need to be careful, that we don’t abuse this gift of God. We also need to ensure
we don’t throw the baby away with the bath water because of individuals who abuse the gift
of prophecy and the ministry of a Prophet.
We have had so many prophetic words locally, nationally and internationally. The outcome
of some of these prophecies has left the nation and the church confused.
How is that prophecies by true servants of God sometimes don’t come to pass? Also, how do
you explain false prophets who prophesy and it comes to pass?
We shall try to interrogate the issues surrounding the fulfilment of Prophecies, to encourage
some Christians who may be confused.
“And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divi-
nation met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most
high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.”
Acts 16:16-17
This young lady was possessed by the spirit of divination, yet she prophesied accurately
about Paul and Silas as men who bring the word of salvation. She continued prophesying
regularly until Paul got tired of her and exorcised the divination spirit in her.
“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of
Christ.
And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righ-
teousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”
2 Corinthians 11:13-15
In order for the counterfeit to be believable, it has to be very close to the original. False
prophets must give some accurate prophesies to be able to deceive the people into following
them and not Jesus Christ.
2. True Prophets can sometimes be wrong because they are still human and are not in-
fallible.
“And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the
LORD’s anointed is before him.
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stat-
ure; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on
the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”
1 Samuel 16:6-7
True prophets can sometimes by swayed by emotions and by what they see. In some cases,
it is a genuine passion for the Kingdom of God that provokes such prophesies that are not in
line with the plan of God.
Samuel, was a true Prophet of God. In a space of just one hour, he almost made seven pro-
phetic mistakes. He was ready to anoint Eliab and the other six brothers as King because he
was told it is one of the sons of Jesse. He did not know there was one more, the youngest
who according to human estimation, was not worthy to even be invited to the anointing ser-
vice.
“The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed be-
long unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.”
Deuteronomy 29:29
“Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the
prophets.”
Amos 3:7
God has the right to keep some things as secrets and to reveal some things to his prophets.
Jesus was not just a Prophet, he was the Son of God in human form and He said that only
God the Father knew the exact date of His return and the end of the world.
“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father
only.”
Matthew 24:36.
This means that God has reserved the right to keep this information as a secret. It is therefore
unlikely that He will reveal this to any Prophet.
Elisha said that the Lord had hidden the problem from him, that made the shunammite wom-
an travel all the way to see him.
“And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi
came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is vexed
within her: and the LORD hath hid it from me, and hath not told me.”
2 Kings 4:27
Elisha had to rely on the information the woman brought to attend to her problem.
4. Prophets are not mandated to reveal all that God has spoken to them.
“ And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God
knoweth;)
How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not law-
ful for a man to utter.”
2 Corinthians 12:3-4
“And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man
what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.”
Mark 9:9.
Peter, James and John had just witnessed the fellowship between the Law (Moses), the
Prophet, (Elijah) and the Truth and Life ( Jesus) in a glorious transfiguration experience,
when they saw Jesus in His glory. It would have been the next item to share as a testimony
in the church. They were however charged, that is commanded, not to disclose the encounter
until after his resurrection.
Prophets only have a portion of the whole information. God’s counsel is like a Jig Saw Puz-
zle.
God many times does not reveal all the details to only one person. He reveals only a portion.
His intention is that as the Prophets speak and others judge, we can distil the whole counsel
of God.
“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as
they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”
2 Peter 1:21
The Scripture was not written by one man, but many Holy men of God each declaring what
God told him. When you now bring all together, you have the whole counsel of God.
“And Hananiah spake in the presence of all the people, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Even
so will I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all nations with-
in the space of two full years. And the prophet Jeremiah went his way.”
Jeremiah 28:11
We were not told that Hananiah was a false prophet. He was right that God would break the
yoke of Babylon from Israel, he was however wrong with timing. Jeremiah prophesied a cap-
tivity of Seventy years, whilst Hananiah prophesied only two of years of captivity. Jeremiah
was right and Hananiah was wrong and paid dearly for it, with his life.
The Apostles and disciples in the early church were so sure that Jesus Christ would return in
their lifetime. They regularly greeted each other Maranatha, which means Oh Lord Come.
“Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to
meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
1 Thessalonians 4:17
About two thousand years after Paul made this declaration, Christ has not returned, because
according to scriptures:
“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years,
and a thousand years are like a day.”
2 Peter 3:8
God still keeps time!
“In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was
called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he under-
stood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.”
Daniel 10:1
It is interesting that the thing revealed to Daniel was TRUE but the time was LONG. God
had to send Archangel Gabriel for the sole purpose of giving Daniel understanding. The issue
of understanding was so pivotal that the Prince of Persia detained Archangel Gabriel for a
whole twenty one days. Michael another Archangel had to be sent to the rescue. We need
prophetic understanding to interpret prophetic revelations so we can walk in tandem with
God, real time.
“Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy
father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them
that honor me I will honor, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.”
1 Samuel 2:30
It was God that said Eli’s house and his father’s house would serve him for ever. This time,
God said that He had changed His mind. In fact He said “Be it far from me”! God reserves
the right to change His mind on any issues! Anyone who is not happy can take God to court
“Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a
peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me
a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the
children of Israel.”
Exodus 19:5-6.
“Then the heathen that are left round about you shall know that I the LORD build the ruined
places, and plant that that was desolate: I the LORD have spoken it, and I will do it.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will yet for this be enquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for
them; I will increase them with men like a flock.”
Ezekiel 36:36-37
In the passage above God spoke through Prophet Ezekiel of the wonderful restoration of
Israel.
The way the Prophet spoke, it was as if it was Fait Accompli, yet he said “I will yet for this
be enquired of by the house of Israel”
“In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came
to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die,
and not live.
Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, saying,
I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a
perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.”
2 Kings 20: 1-3
God responded to the heart cry of Hezekiah. The Prophet was still within the courts of the
Palace when God commanded him to go back to Hezekiah and announce an additional fif-
teen years to his life.
God can alter prophecy when there is genuine repentance. In the case of Ahab God respond-
ed to his repentance by delaying the fulfilment of the prophecy to the time of his son.
“Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me,
I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son’s days will I bring the evil upon his house.”
1 Kings 21:29.
“I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.
But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they
should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.”
Jeremiah 23:21-22.
God was more interested in these Prophets standing to receive His counsel so as to turn His
people from their wicked ways. He compared the dreams of these Prophets with the restor-
ative power of His word.
Predicting events and foretelling the future may not be necessary sometimes, unless God is
the one directing the Prophet to do so, so as to assist His people to prepare for whatever is
coming. Foretelling the future and predicting events puts the Prophet on the spot and may not
glorify Christ if the prophecies are not fulfilled.
“When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to
pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it pre-
sumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.”
Deuteronomy 18:22
There are some information that can wait for its time without a need for prophetic announce-
ment.
“Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet
done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:”
Isaiah 46:10
“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which
was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”
Revelation 1:8
Ultimately God’s counsel will come to pass, willy nilly. He is the A and the Z indicating that
when he starts a thing, he is able to finish it. We may not know what is in between the A and
the Z but we need to rest assured the Z will come.
Maranatha.
