Welcome to the Mathematics Grade 6 Self – Learning Module on Formulating the rule
in finding the nth term using different strategies (looking for a pattern, guessing and
checking, working backwards) e.g. 4,7,13,16,…n(the nth term is 3n + 1)!
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators from
Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its Officer-In-Charge Schools Division
Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A. Agustin in partnership with the Local
Government of Pasig through its mayor, Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto.
The writers utilized the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum using the Most
Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) while overcoming their personal, social,
and economic constraints in schooling.
This learning material hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of
the module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.
You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage
their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners
as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the learner:
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for
guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to
process the contents of the learning material while being an active learner.
Expectation - These are what you will be able to know after completing the
lessons in the module
Pretest - This will measure your prior knowledge and the concepts to be
mastered throughout the lesson.
Recap - This section will measure what learnings and skills that you
understand from the previous lesson.
Lesson- This section will discuss the topic for this module.
Wrap Up- This section summarizes the concepts and applications of the
lessons.
Posttest - This will measure how much you have learned from the entire
module.
EXPECTATION
At the end of the lesson, you are expected to formulate the rule in finding the
nth term using different strategies (looking for a pattern, guessing and
checking, working backwards) e.g. 4,7,13,16,…n(the nth term is 3n + 1).
PRETEST
Directions: Study the items carefully. Write the letter of the correct answer.
1. What is the next number in the sequence 5,9,14, 20?
A.24 B. 25 C. 26 D. 27

RECAP
Nikki got a low score in her Physical Test for stamina. To develop her
stamina, she decided to plan for self-designed jogging routine. On the first
week, she jogged for 10 minutes a day, and for each succeeding week, she
added 3 minutes. How many minutes a day did she jog on the 5th week?
1st week 2nd week 3rd week 4th week 5th week
10 13 16 _______ ?
How are we going to get the missing term? What pattern is used?
Determine the order of numbers if it is ascending or descending.
Find the difference between the consecutive terms.
To find the missing term, use the difference between terms.
1st week 2nd week 3rd week 4th week 5th week
10 13 16 _______ ?
Example 2:
Example 3:
Study the given sequence. Find the missing term/s.
6 6 6 6
Again, the sequence has a difference of 6 between each number. And the
preceding number is 3.
Thus, the rule must be 6n-3. So, what is the 6th and 7th terms?
Pattern rule
1. Fibonacci Sequence
2. Square Numbers
1x1=1 5x5= 25
2x2=4 6x6= 36
3x3=9 7x7 = 49
4x4=16 8x8= 64
3. Cube Numbers
