3. Title of project:
Visit to LAMPEX ELECTRONICS LIMITED, Kukatpally,
Hyderabad.

4. Purpose:

The main purpose of this project practicum is to visit any

private company and know how the work is being done in the
company. Our Purpose behind this company visit is to know the
work culture and to gain some information about the work done in
order to gain some knowledge and experience. The other purpose is
to observe the functioning of machines in an electronics company
and the atmosphere of the company.
5. Objectives:

The main objectives that I would like to share through the project
practicum is as follows.

1. Administration
2. Machine Room
3. Surface Mounting Technology
4. Surface Mounting Device
5. Assembly Room
6. PCB assembling
7. Firmware installation and testing
8. AMR (Automatic Meter Reader)

6. Description of field visit:

Introduction:

This is 3 days project/practicum program on a company’s

atmosphere, type of work being done, way of work being done.

As the developmental processes in LCD's align themselves around

color display systems. I can predict that the future is indeed a
colorful display of aesthetics and eye-catching technology.
Incorporated in the year 1991, Lampex Electronics Limited (LEL) is
involved in manufacture of LCDs (Liquid Crystal Displays) and
LCD modules, handheld terminals like spot billing machines,
automatic meter reading system, products like electronic cash
registers and others. The company operates through a manufacturing
facility located in Kukatpally, Hyderabad. LEL is managed by Mr.
N Siva Prasad who has more than 25 years of experience in the
industry.

Background:

Lampex Electronics Limited is an electronics manufacturing

industry which is involved in manufacturing LCDs and LCD
modules. It is located in Kukatpally, Hyderabad. This company also
manufactures spot billing machines, automatic meter reading
system, electronic cash registers, etc. It works on a technology
called Surface-mounting technology. Here manufacturing of PCB
panels and assembling of PCBs and also testing of the end products
are being done. Bill Generators, Hand held terminals, AMRs, LCDs
are manufactured in an efficient and systematic way. The machines
in the industry are used in such a way that the end product
manufactured is produced in high quantity and also consumes less
time. Various machines in the company are having various
applications.

Major observations shall include:

Machines for Surface mounting Technology includes:

1. Loader:
This M/C is using to Load Empty PCBs to Screen Printer,
PCB Loader is having 3 Magazines, one is working conveyor and 2
are on waiting conveyor. Each magazine having 50 slots means we
can load 150 panels at a time.
2. Stencil-printer:
This M/C is using to apply solder paste on the PCB at Required are
on the PCB. We made a stencil for each product according to
product Gerber data, pad area will be open in the stencil. While
production will insert the stencil in the M/C and PCB coming from
PCB Loader, M/C will calculate the offset and print solder paste on
the PCB.
3. Visual testing:
In this the pattern is checked whether they are printed in the correct
way or not.
4. Pick and Place:
These are of two types:
1.Chip shooter:
This M/C called as Pick & Place M/C using to place chip
components on the solder paste printed PCB. This is having Dual
Gantry, 20 spindles, it will Pick and Place up to 15 mm size of
components. Speed of this M/C is 75000CPH
2.Component spacer:
This M/C also called as Pick & Place M/C using to place the
fine pitch components on the PCB like BGA, QFP, TQFP, TSSOP,
Capacitors, connecters ETC. This is having Single Gantry, 6
spindles, it will Pick and Place up to 35 mm size of components.
Speed of this M/C is 28000CPH
5. Reflow Oven:
This is using to solder the solder past on the PCB and Components.
The most important step in reflow soldering is reflowing itself when
the solder paste deposits melt and soldered joints are formed. This is
achieved by passing the boards through an oven and exposing them
to a temperature profile that varies in time. A temperature profile
essentially consists of three phases:
1. Preheat: the board is warmed up to a temperature that is lower
than the melting point of the solder alloy
2. Reflow: the board is heated to a peak temperature that is well
above the melting point of the solder but below the temperature at
which the components and boards are damaged
3. Cooling down: the board is cooled down rapidly so that soldered
joints freeze before the board exits from the oven.

The inputs to given to the machines are in the form of sticks, tray
and roll. The numbering given to the resistors or capacitors, etc are
invisible to the human eye. So, they are clearly seen in the visual
testing machines.

The inputs placed on PCBs are Resistors, Capacitors, ICs, etc.

In Assembling Room, the work done is assembling PCBs, Firmware

installation and testing of the products manufactured.

In service room, the queries of the customers or issues of the

products produced are being solved by the service members. In this
room, the complaints are collected and sorted.
