1.0 SCOPE:

This specification covers design, manufactures, inspection, testing, packaging,


delivery and guarantee of various types coaxial cables for use in 220 MWe
PHWRS.

3.0 APPLICABLE SPECIFICATIONS AND DRAWINGS

4.0 MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP

4.1 Material and Processes :

All materials and processes for the components of cables and their assembly
shall be first class and of standard conforming to the requirements of this
specification. If cables are offered to other standards deemed equivalent, full
details of electrical, mechanical and physical properties shall be submitted by
supplier along with copies of relevant standard for purchaser's approval. The
construction of cable shall in general conform to MIL-C-17.

4.2 Workmanship :

Workmanship shall be of high industrial quality to ensure the product to be


uniform in quality and free from all defects and deformities so as to perform its
required function in the specified environment as mentioned in this specification
over an expected plant life of 40 years.

5.0 GENERAL FUNCTIONS AND DESCRIPTION

5.1 The cables shall be suitable for continuous and reliable operation at operating
conditions specified against each type of Co-axial cables.

5.2 Environment Conditions

(a) Ambient Temperature 500 C for RG Co-axial Cables


1200 C for Radiation resistant cables

6. DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

All materials shall be first class standard conforming to the requirements of this
specification.

6.1 Conductors:

Conductors shall be made of solid or stranded, annealed plain copper or tinned


copper as given in the derailed description of each type of coaxial cables. No
joints of any kind in the conductor are allowed.

6.2 Insulation:

Insulation shall be of polyethylene or semi air spaced polyethylene or Ethylene


Tetra Fluro Ethylene (FTFE) or polyamide as given in the detailed description of
each Coaxial cable. Insulation shall be applied by extrusion process wherever
possible. Joint of any kind of the insulation are not permitted.

6.3 Shielding:

Shielding shall be carried out in accordance with the manner described in the
details description of each type of coaxial cable. The braiding shall be single
braided or triple braided as the case may be. The braiding shall be done with
annealed tinned copper wire of plain copper wire described in the detailed
description of each type of coaxial cable.

6.4 Jacket:

The jacket material for RG coaxial cables shall be polyolefine. For radiation
resistant coaxial cables the cable shall be jacketed with PEEK (Poly Ether
Ketone). The jacket material for super-screened cables shall be polyolefine. The
thickness of sheath of above cables shall be as per detailed description given
against each type of coaxial cables. Jacket materials shall meet the special
physical characteristics as below. Colour of the jacket shall be black.

6.5 Special Requirements for Jacket Materials

6.5.1 Limiting Oxygen index Jacket shall not be less than 29% as per ASTM-D-
2863/IS-10810-58.

6.5.2 Smoke density rating of sheaths shall be maximum 60% as per ASTM-D-2843 or
smoke density test may be conducted as per IS-10810-63. Supplier to indicate the
acceptance criteria which is equivalent to 60% smoke density as per ASTM-D-
2843 if test is done as per IS-10810-63.

6.5.3 Halogen (HCL) emission of the sheaths shall be maximum 20% as per IEC-754-
1/IS -10810-59.

6.5.4 Complete cable shall be flame retardant as per 424-14-75 (F3) Swedish chimney
flame test

6.6 Types of Coaxial Cables

6.6.1 RG-11 A/U (Low-noise)

7/0.4mm tinned copper, conductor insulated with 3mm (nominal) + 0.1mm thick
suitable insulation with a suitable coating of semi conducting layer to minimise
triboelectric effect, single braided with annealed plain copper conductor, jacketed
with material as specified in clause 6.4 of 1.05mm thickness +0.1mm. The
electrical parameters of the cable shall generally conform to the requirements of
MIL-C-17 standard including additional requirement of capacitance 100 PF/m
max. and microphonic noise of 1E(-13) coulombs max. at 16 KHz. The physical
characteristics shall conform to as specified in clause 6.5. The overall diameter
of the cable shall be 10.3mm.

6.6.2 RG-59 B/U:

1/0.6 mm hard drawn plain copper conductor insulated with 1.55 mm (nom) +
0.1 mm thick suitable insulation single braided with plain copper conductor
jacketed with suitable material of 0.8mm (nom) +0.1mm thick. The electrical
parameters of the cable shall generally conform to MIL-C-17 standard and the
physical characteristics as specified in clause 6.5. The overall diameter of cable
shall be 6.1 mm.

6.6.3 RG 62 A/U

1/0.6 mm Hard drawn plain copper conductor insulated with 1.55 mm + 0.1 mm
thick suitable insulation, single braided with plain copper conductor, jacketed
with suitable material of 0.8 mm + 0.1 mm thickness. The electrical parameters
of the cable shall generally conform to MIL-C-17 standard and the physical
characteristics as specified in clauses 6.5. The overall diameter of the cable shall
be 6.1 mm.

6.6.4 RG/108 A/U

7/0.32 mm tinned copper conductor insulated with suitable insulation of 0.51 mm


+ 0.1 mm thickness such two ores twisted to form a pair and then single braided
with tinned copper conductors jacketed with suitable material of 0.65 mm + 0.1
mm thickness. The electrical parameters of the cable shall generally conform to
MIL-C-17 standards and the physical characteristics as specified in the clause 6.5.
The overall diameter of the cable shall be 6 mm.

6.6.5 RG 174/U

7/0.16 mm hard drawn copper conductor, insulated with 0.5 mm + 0.05 mm thick
suitable insulation, single braided with tinned copper conductor and jacketed with
suitable martial of 0.25 mm + 0.05 mm thick. The electrical parameters of the
cable shall generally conform to MIL-C-17 standard and the physical
characteristics as specified in clause 6.5. Overall diameter of the cable shall be
2.5 mm.

6.6.6 Radiation Resistant Coaxial Cable

6.6.6.1 Description

7/0.38 mm tinned copper conductor (1.13 mm dia) insulated with 33 layers of


polyimide tape and one layers of special polyimide tape (upto dia 4.23 mm)
braided with 0.13 mm dia, tinned copper wire, (upto dia 4.95 mm) and jacketed
with PEEK (poly Ether Ether Ketone). The overall dia shall be 5.45 mm. The
performance characteristics of the cable shall be as per clause 6.6.6.2 given below
and cables shall also conform to special physical characteristics given in clause
6.5.

6.6.6.2 Performance characteristics

6.6.7 Super Screened Radiation Resistant Coaxial Cable High Immunity

6.6.7.1 Description

The inner conductor should be 0.42 mm dia solid plain copper wire. The
insulation around the conductor should be polyethylene Ethylene Tetra Fluro
Ethylene (ETFE) of suitable thickness with a coating of graphite loaded
polyethylene. The insulation should be covered with three screening braids of
0.12 mm dia plain copper wires separated by two nos of annealed mumetal
magnetic tapes. The outside jackets should be polyolefine of suitable thickness to
achieve the necessary performance characteristics given in clause 6.6.7.2.

6.6.7.2 Performance characteristics

6.7 Cable Identification

The following particulars shall be embossed on the cable outer sheath, throughout
the length of all the cables at a span of 1 meter.

b) Manufacturer’s name
c) Year of Manufacturing

It may be noted that embossing on the cable jacket is preferred to printing.

6.8 Coil lengths

For all types of coaxial cables, the coil lengths shall be 500m  10% cable lengths
between 100m and 449m shall be considered ass non standard length. The total
quantity of nonstandard length shall not exceed 10% of the ordered quantity.
Cable of less than 100m length are not acceptable.

7.0 INSPECTION TESTS & REPORTS

The supplier shall be responsible for and shall perform all the tests and inspection
mentioned in this specification and other tests which may be necessary to assess
the required performance of the cable. The characteristic and performance of the
cable shall conform to this specification on completion of tests.

The purchaser shall have right to access to manufacturer's premises at all


reasonable times for following up the manufacturing activities and validation of
testing procedures to ensure that quality of performance meets this specification.

The purchaser shall have right to conduct at his own expenses any additional
inspection and testing deemed necessary by him.

Quality surveillance relating to all aspects of manufacture shall be carried out by


the purchaser. The supplier shall provide all the testing and inspection services
and facilities satisfactorily as required. Inspection shall be carried out in
satisfactory manner and shall be subjected to approval by the purchaser. Quality
Assurance Plan (QAP) has been enclosed with the specification. The supplier
shall prepare an inspection plan based on enclosed QAP and submit to purchaser
for approval.

Five copies of test reports and certificates of compliance stating the material is in
accordance with the requirement specified in the specification shall be furnished
by the supplier.

8.0 SHOP TESTS

8.1 Type Tests :

The following tests shall be carried out.

8.1.1 The following tests shall be carried out on RG Co-axial cables and Radiation
Resistant Co-axial cables.

The following acceptance tests shall be carried out on all types of cable.

9.0 PACKING AND SHIPMENT

The cables shall be so packed as not to suffer deterioration, damage or breakage


during shipment. The ends of the cables shall be sealed to prevent ingress of
moisture. Packing should be such that the ingress of moisture, dirt and other
foreign material can be avoided. Packing method shall be adequate to withstand a
period in transit for more than two months and storage at site under a tropical
climate for minimum period of one year without suffering any damage or
deterioration. Each package shall be properly labeled to indicate the type and
quantity of material it contains, purchase order number, dimensions, weight, and
any other necessary data to identify the equipment and relate it to the contract.

Supplier shall not ship the material without the prior approval of the purchaser or
his authorised representative and subsequent instruction to do so.

Complete instructions relating to shipping and documentation will be furnished


with the P.O.

The supplier shall be required to provide transport insurance for the material

10.0 INFORMATION REQUIRED WITH THE BID

3. PROOF OF ABILITY

(a) The bidders shall submit a list of similar supplies made by him to standards and
tolerances specified in this tender document.

(b) The bidder shall submit with the offer, a list of inhouse test facilities available
with them for carrying out all tests specified in this specification.

(c) The bidder shall submit along with the offer, the test reports of all the tests
specified in this specification carried out by him on similar type of cable.

(d) Bidder shall submit along with the offer descriptive and illustrative literature
covering construction and materials used for the cables offered.

(e) The Vendor information form enclosed shall be filled and submitted along with
the bid.

4. INFORMATION REQUIRED AFTER AWARD OF CONTRACT

Five (5) copies of certified test reports for the tests mentioned in clause 8.0 of this
specification.
