INTRODUCTION

E-commerce (electronic commerce) is the activity of electronically buying or selling of

products on online services or over the Internet. The term was coined and first employed
by Dr. Robert Jacobson, Principal Consultant to the California State Assembly's Utilities
& Commerce Committee, in the title and text of California's Electronic Commerce Act,
carried by the late Committee Chairwoman Gwen Moore (D-L.A.) and enacted in 1984.

E-commerce businesses may also employ some or all of the followings:

• Online shopping for retail sales direct to consumers via Web sites and mobile
apps, and conversational commerce via live chat, Chabot, and voice assistants;
• Providing or participating in online marketplaces, which process third-party
business-to-consumer (B2C) or consumer-to-consumer (C2C) sales;
• Business-to-business (B2B) buying and selling;
• Gathering and using demographic data through web contacts and social media;
• Business-to-business (B2B) electronic data interchange;
• Marketing to prospective and established customers by e-mail or fax (for
example, with newsletters);
• Engaging in retail for launching new products and services;
• Online financial exchanges for currency exchanges or trading purposes.
Ecommerce carries the following advantages:

• It is strange that the competitor analysis is still not part of every marketing strategy
because if you use it in various online stores, it will help to:
• Realize a unique selling proposition (USP) and differentiate yourself from your
opponents, or at least, not be inferior to them.
• Determine your competitors’ internet marketing strategy. Know top traffic sources and
marketing budget.
• Create a budget for advertising campaigns that is not divorced from reality and initially
focus on those channels and tools that the competitor pays special attention to.
• Analyze the functional features of competitors’ sites, identify weaknesses and
determine a roadmap for the development of your site
• To probe the assortment and pricing policy.

The software industry has transformed the way organizations, businesses, and even people
coordinate and work. Its impact on the global economy and across various industries can be
gauged by the increase in innovations, technical progress, enhanced productivity, and the
workforce. “Software” refers to computer program or data (bits and bytes stored), that can be
stored electronically.
E-commerce carries the following disadvantages:

• Limited customer service. If you are shopping online for a computer, you
cannot simply ask an employee to demonstrate a particular model's features
in person. And although some websites let you chat online with a staff
member; this is not a typical practice.
• Lack of instant gratification. When you buy an item online, you must wait
for it to be shipped to your home or office. However, retailers like Amazon
make the waiting game a little bit less painful by offering same-day delivery
as a premium option for select product.
• Inability to touch products. Online images do not necessarily convey the
whole story about an item, and so e-commerce purchases can be
unsatisfying when the products received do not match consumer
expectations.
• Case in point: an item of clothing may be made from shoddier fabric than
its online image indicates. The Indian e-commerce industry has been on an
upward growth trajectory. The online retail market in India is estimated to
be 25% of the total organized retail market and is expected to reach 37%
by 2030. By 2034, it is predicted to surpass the United States to become the
second largest e-commerce market globally.
• A young demography, increasing internet and smartphone penetration, and
relatively better economic performance are some key drivers of this sector.
Each month, India adds approximately 10 million daily active internet
users- the highest rate in the world; number of smartphones per 100 people
has risen from 5.4 in 2014 to 26.2 in 2018. According to 2019 data, it was
estimated that one in every three Indians shopped using a smartphone. In
order to tap onto the large market, the e-commerce industry has also seen
an increase in innovation across platforms, and ancillary segments such as
logistics.

Functions of human resource development

• Human resource management encompasses effective employee management to

maximize their performance. In the era of technology, it plays a key role in improving
hr. functions in an organization. A lot of organizations have already implemented
human resource management software (hrms), moving their data from physical records
to hrms powered spreadsheets.
• A hrms will provide the best value to your organization and empower you with the
flexibility to deal with ever-changing business needs. To get the most out of a human
resource management software, we have listed down eight must-have functions that an
employee management software should be able to perform. Centralised employee data
and records
• Any hrms should be capable of maintaining a repository of employee data and company
records. This data should be accessible to hr from a centralised platform, for
convenience. This feature lets hr to retrieve data of employees at a moment’s glance.
Additionally, you can manage documents related to employees like offer letter,
appointment letter, id, aadhar information, pan card details and more. An hrms solution
that can help you centralise your records and make it more accessible is pocket hrms.
Its intuitive interface ensures that you can access your records easily and don’t spend
too much time in finding relevant documents. Pocket hrms not only performs core hr
functions but also performs biometric attendance management, mis reporting, expense
management and more.
Recruitment

• Having good employees can take your company to great heights. As a result, your
recruitment operations need to be managed effectively, for best results. A sound hr
solution will offer various features to help your hr department manage every step of the
recruitment process with ease. Employee management software will help in organizing
recruitment activities effectively. This includes resume management, categorisation,
processing applications, consolidating and communicating interview results and many
other activities performed during the recruitment process.

Payroll

• A human resource management software should help you with accurate calculation &
distribution of payroll by considering attendance, leaves, holidays, overtime,
deductions, reimbursements, taxes etc. An hr system will help in recording employee
attendance and generating payroll as per the data obtained. It can create payroll reports
and export data to microsoft excel as well as pdf for your convenience.

Appraisals and performance management

• Hr software helps organizations in tracking and reporting employees’ performance.

With an hrms, performance review takes place on a recurring basis. Hrms contains
modules which help in improving employee performance and engagement. You will be
able to look at employees’ past year's performance, using an hrms. Additionally, hrms
can be used to assess if employees met their deadlines and completed their kras.

Training & learning

• A robust hrms helps in organising employee training & learning sessions. Additionally,
it also maintains records of the training provided and seminars conducted. Hrms’s
training management module can be used to schedule venues, communicate training
related information to employees and share relevant resources and study material. Hr
software also allows outlining of training courses and materials available to develop
skills.
Attendance management and human resource management software

• Hrms helps in maintaining the attendance of the employees, including managing leaves:
paid, unpaid, and holiday granted. In many organizations, there are biometric systems
which register attendance with a card swipe or a fingerprint reader. An hr system will
integrate with any biometric device and have the ability to read various input formats.
This reduces errors while eliminating manual interventions, ensuring proper recording
of employees’ attendance.

Reporting and analytics

• An hrms should have the facility to display various types of reports and export them to
excel sheets and pdfs. It should graphically represent various reports including
attendance, payroll, appraisals, leaves, turnover etc. This allows you to get employee
information in the blink of an eye. Good analytics will ensure informed decision making
that benefits the organisation and its employees.

Employee self-service

• Employee self-service gives on-demand access to employees for accessing their

personal information from anywhere. An hr software that includes self-service will
allow employees to manage their own records including attendance, applying for
leaves, viewing organization information, etc. Supervisors can approve leaves and
allocate work through the self-service portal. Hrms thus reduces the work of hr
department and saves them time.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Descriptive research

Descriptive research is defined as a research method that describes the characteristics of the
population or phenomenon that is being studied. This methodology focuses more on the “what”
of the research subject rather than the “why” of the research subject. In other words, descriptive
research primarily focuses on describing the nature of a demographic segment, without
focusing on “why” a certain phenomenon occurs. In other words, it “describes” the subject of
the research, without covering “why” it happens.

Data collection

Primary data

• Primary data is data that is collected by a researcher from first-hand sources,

using methods like surveys, interviews, or experiments. It is collected with the
research project in mind, directly from primary sources.
• The primary data was collected through questionnaire

Secondary data

• The term is used in contrast with the term secondary data. Secondary data is
data gathered from studies, surveys, or experiments that have been run by other
people or for other research
• Secondary data is collected from company journals, magazines, newspapers,
previous research works and internet.

February 2004 IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing Vincent Huang Ericsson QoS-
oriented packet scheduling for wireless CDMA network The MAC protocol exploits both time-
division and code-division statistical multiplexing. The BER requirements are guaranteed by
properly arranging simultaneous packet transmissions and controlling there transmit power
levels, whereas the packet loss and delay requirements are guaranteed by proper packet
scheduling. The basic idea of FPLS is to schedule the transmission of multimedia packets in
such a way that all the users have a fair share of packet loss according to their QoS
requirements, which maximizes the number of the served users under the QoS constraints.

A study on employee retention strategies Dr. Saravanan M, Sruthi TT 2020 This study
concludes that it is very difficult and crucial task to manage and retain the employees. Like
every asset human resource is very important, so every management must take effective actions
and plans to maintain its employees. It is very necessary to understand the employee perception
and mobility as their preference can change rapidly. To maintain the employees in an
organization, the management has developed different strategies according to the level of work
and position of the employees. From this study, it is clear that employees stick on to their
present job only when they get attractive salary packages. The other reason why they prefer
their current job is the security and working atmosphere provided with in the organization.

Hanan Abdulla Al Mehairi and Kevin Binning KM 2000 is a source of competitive
advantage among organisations, especially in the fast-changing business environment, and
knowledge sharing is a critical component of knowledge management. The acceptance of
knowledge sharing behaviour among the members of an organisation is influenced partly by
organisational culture. The development of knowledge sharing requires the input of all
members, who need to work toward creating a cultural environment that fosters the
development of knowledge sharing norms and behaviours. The results revealed that employee
oriented culture supports knowledge sharing behaviour. In addition, the results suggest that
employees in employee oriented cultures are highly concerned with adhering to knowledge
sharing norms, in part, because employee-oriented cultures foster perceptions of fairness and
affiliation among employees.

often been made that the mere online presence does not represent a decisive competitive advantage.

Abraham Carmeli 2003 in his research paper, The relationship between emotional
intelligence and work attitudes, behaviour and outcomes, Journal of Managerial Psychology
Vol. 18 No. 8, 2003 stated that managerial skills in general, and emotional intelligence
inparticular, plays a significant role in the success of senior managers in the workplace.
Emotional intelligence supports positive work attitudes, altruistic behaviour and work
outcomes, and moderates the effect of work-family conflict on career commitment and not the
effect on job satisfaction.

DR.J.Venkatesh; MR.D.Balaji, Emotional Intelligence Develops Organizational Learning

Capabilities, Zenith International Journal of Business Economics & Management Research
Vol.2 Issue 3, March 2012, ISSN 2249 8826 stated that although the concept of EI is based on
extensive research evidence, the organizational applications of EI “tend to be based on
derivative arguments and largely anecdotal descriptions” (Dulwich and Higgs, 2000, p. 231)..

Jahanvash Karim, Robert Weisz, Emotions At Work : THE Role Of Emotional Intelligence
And Emotional Labour In Predicting Work-Family Conflict, Psychlogical Distress And Life
Satisfaction stated that study was to examine the relationships amongst emotional intelligence,
emotional labour, work-family conflict, satisfaction with life, and psychological distress
among a sample of employees working in three public sector organizations in Pakistan. EI is a
vital characteristic that enables an individual to appropriately match the EL strategy to the
situation (Feldman, Barrrett, & Gross, 2001).

Attitudes Among Secondary School Teachers in Southwestern Nigeria, stated that the study
was to investigate the relationships of emotional intelligence and self efficacy to work attitudes

self-efficacy had significant relationships with work attitudes. But, age, sex and work
experience do not have significant relationship. Results showed that teachers with high EI and
high self efficacy show more commitment to organization and career. It revealed that emotional
intelligence was negatively and significantly related to work-family conflict.

JaeMin Cha, SeungHyun Kim, Ronald F. Cichy 2006,Job Satisfaction, Organizational

According to eMarketer, in 2022, global retail ecommerce sales will surpass $5 trillion for the
first time, accounting for more than a fifth of overall retail sales. And by 2025, total spending
will exceed $7 trillion, despite slowing growth. Ecommerce (or electronic commerce) is the
buying and selling of goods or services on the Internet. It encompasses a wide variety of data,

services on the Internet. It encompasses a wide variety of data, systems and tools for online
buyers and sellers, including mobile shopping and online payment encryption Most businesses
with an online presence use an online store and/or platform to conduct ecommerce marketing
and sales activities and to oversee logistics and fulfillment.

E-commerce is booming during the pandemic, presenting a big opportunity for

entrepreneurs to set up shop and start selling. Here's what you need to know about this type of
business.
E-commerce has surged during the pandemic, enabling businesses to survive and thrive.
You don’t have to spend much money on overhead when you run an e-commerce business
compared to a brick-and-mortar store, and it gives you access to a worldwide audience.
There are some inherent challenges to running an online store, such as the increased risk of
fraud and high rates of cart abandonment.
This article is for people who are interested in launching an e-commerce business and want to
learn the basics.
Selling products and services over the internet took on new importance during the COVID-19

To be successful at electronic commerce, you should have a comprehensive list of the products
and services you sell on your website or marketplace page. The online shop should be easy to
navigate, user friendly and aesthetically appealing. It should also be optimized for mobile
devices. According to data from e-commerce platform Oberlo, mobile commerce sales are set
to reach $2.91 trillion in 2020 and increase to $3.56 trillion in 2021. With so many consumers
shopping on mobile devices, it’s critical to optimize your online store for them. The checkout
experience is another important aspect of e-commerce functionality. It is the process the
customer goes through to buy your product or service. If your checkout process is clunky and
cumbersome or requires too many steps, you may lose the sale. Shopping cart abandonment is
a real phenomenon, with the Baymard Institute finding the ;average abandonment rate stands
at 69.57%.

Entrepreneur magazine's Editor in Chief Jason Feifer and Shopify's President Harley
Finkelstein sat down for an in-depth conversation about the incredible growth of opportunities
in e-commerce. Over the course of the call, Finkelstein shared best practices and strategies for
growing an online brand and dropped some amazing data points that highlight just how massive
the ecommerce revolution is. "If you look at the U.S. alone, applications for new businesses
have been approximately five million per year for 2021 and 2022," says Finkelstein. "That is
one million more — or about 20% more — than the previous five years."

How E-Commerce Fits into Retail’s Post-Pandemic Future by Kathy Gramling, Jeff Orschell,
and Joshua Chernoff In early 2021, the EY Future Consumer Index (Index), which has
surveyed thousands of consumers since the early days of the pandemic, found that 80% of U.S.
consumers are still changing the way they shop. Sixty percent are currently visiting brick-and-
mortar stores less than before the pandemic, and 43% shop more often online for products they
would have previously bought in stores.

It took radio 30 years, from 1922 to 1952, to reach 50 million users. Television required 13
years to do the same thing. Cable television became available in 1974 and achieved this goal
in 10 years. It took the Internet approximately five years to reach an estimated 100 million
users (Source: Harris Interactive) and revolutionize the ways in which firms market and provide
customer service. This growth is particularly impressive since the Internet challenges firms to
do business in new ways. How do firms chart a profitable course in cyberspace? The key is to
focus on the customer who, it turns out, may bear little resemblance to customers of the past.
https://network.bepress.com/business/e-commerce/ Online customers may be out of state or
overseas. E-commerce can greatly expand the scope of a firm in both customer base and
product offerings. A virtual organization can serve customers who live and work in distant
geographic locations so regional sales outlets can assume a global presence. A note of caution
here…US firms report that a relatively high percentage of foreign transactions are fraudulent.
