COMPONENTS OF THE LESSON:

Introduction, Prompter/Hook (3 - 5 minutes)
1. Use a World Map and have students interact with the map. Have them tell what the map is showing.
2. Introduction (5 minutes) Introduce the lesson by projecting the video. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=VGxssWl99U8)
Time to teach: (10 - 14 minutes)
-Display the globe or map of the world and explain that just like you saw in the video, there are seven
large areas of land on the planet. Each of these are called continents.
-Explain to the students that while there are over a hundred different countries and many bodies of water in
the world, there are only seven continents.
-Allow learners to identify each of the continents and water bodies. Point to each of the continents and
name each one (Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, etc.)
-Describe the position of each continent in relation to the other continents using words like above, below,
next to as well as North, South, etc. (cardinal points).
-Elicit from learners which continent they live on. Allow for a few guesses then point to the correct
continent.
Time to practise: (15 – 30 minutes)
Have students use their atlases and identify countries on each of the continents. Allow them to complete
the table to show the countries and water bodies. Using their atlases, learners would identify interesting
facts about each of the continent. They would record this in their table.
Time to Reflect and Share (3-5 minutes)
Learners would share their interesting fact with the class.

and Europe.
