STATEMENT OF AIMS
Unit 8 is the summative unit in the first year of the two-year qualification. It will
provide students with a measure of self-directed learning through the
completion of a substantial creative media production and technology project.
The unit requires students to apply the skills, knowledge and understanding
developed in Units 1–7, to complete a creative media production project. It will
provide students with a measure of self-directed learning, and an opportunity to
begin to clarify their longer-term goals through their choice of an activity to explore in
greater depth

Section 1: Rationale (minimum of 100 words)
Before I started on this course, I had just finished an A Level Course that was
completely academic based therefore I didn’t have much to go in terms of
Media terminology and the systematic differences between the two courses
although i took Media for my GCSE. Through the units I have learned a great
deal about how to appeal to different people in media sectors as well as,
market effectively a product that I have created with the full intentions of it
being presented as a marketable product (That i’m proud of). From this I have
been able to construct varies of media outlets and dive into the technicalities
of producing a high valued product, marketed towards a specific target
audience (marketing skills) and further better my educational prospects for
the future. Therefore, I feel as though the skills I have acquired throughout
the past units will help me to appeal mostly to the specific isolated target
audience that i’m hoping to reach and with this, i’ll be able to hit other target
barriers. This has influenced my ability to make constructive decisions on
projects i’m working on, be able to see when things are going in my favour vs
not. Thus, it’s with these skills I shall bring to the FMP (Final Major Project)
Resources Required
The shot locations may be depicted as the following; beach, garden, windows/and of car of journey,
holiday destinations, different weather conditions rainy/sunny/clear, different time zones day/afternoon
night/ - and many more. The sounds will include the original soundtrack sang and composed by Cherish
Green, and effects such as record needle scratching (start) and vhs tape rewinding (finish).
Skills to develop/learn
The skills I would like to better develop is how to transition videos in a way that isn’t sloppy. Also how
to perfect the short/long extension of time scales, and play around with them.
1. Do something you enjoy – look back on projects this year and think about
what skills you’ve learnt and which you have really enjoyed. What job would
you like to do in the future? How can you apply it to your project? Pick an area
which you can connect with.
LOVE YOUR PROJECT
2. Do lots and lots of research – primary and secondary are both essential.
Use a wide range of methods and resources, such as questionnaires,
surveys, interviews (Primary), and researching the work of professional
practitioners and techniques (Secondary).
3. Manage your time – 9 weeks of practical work is not long. Just think how
fast this year has gone so far. Plan ahead and don’t fall behind. MAKE USE
OF INDEPENDENT STUDY TIME.
4. You must document everything what happens as you go along. Your entire
journey from start to finish should be fully recorded. Describe and analyse as
you go along. Every aspect of your project should be fully considered. Your
Planning and Schedule will be vital to the success of your FMP
6. Critically analyse and evaluate – this will refer to the research you undertake,
the pre-production, production and post-production. Don’t just describe but
analyse, interpret, research and evaluate.
8. You are being graded against FOUR Learning Outcomes, so you need to
ensure that you do the very best in each of them to achieve the grade you
may require, so pay close attention to all parts of the FMP. Remember that
the lowest awarded grade for any Learning Outcome will be the final grade
for the FMP unit.
