In my village, Buyikwe, people love peace and security. Mr. Otim Bob, the Local Council 1
chairperson usually encourages us to work together as a community so as to maintain peace and
security. In order to achieve the security goals, the chairperson organizes village meetings every
Sunday. During such meetings, resident suggest and pass resolutions on various ways of
promotion peace and security. The chairperson also invites the officer-in-charge of Mukono
Police Post to educate the residents on the dangers of insecurity. At the LC1 chairpersons’s
office, there is a village motto, “Together, we can achieve peace and security.” The motto helps
to reduce offences like theft, kidnap, defilement etc.
The offences have been reduce through networking, for instance, the landlords and landladies
usually report new tenants and visitors to the LC1 office. This is done to avoid living with
wrongdoers or criminals in the village thus promoting peace and security.
