In Philippine society, there are distinctive numbers of incidents that may occur at any time
and in any place. One of those is the so-called fire incidents that generate from various causes of fires,
such as heating, faulty wiring, flammable liquids, etc. The existence of this kind of incident can
stimulate tremendous damage to life and property. However, its occurrence may be revertible,
providing the different kinds of fire management strategies and safety measures that can provide
specifically by the personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection.Correspondingly, the above-mentioned
strategies and safety measures consist of a different approach for the development of fire safety
management. This was describe how fire strategies address fire safety as well as how the treatment
of fire in the place like buildings. In particular, this mode of safety is described interns of planning,
maintenance, and emergency procedures. More so, it also contains actions and procedures that may
result in lowering the amount of risk of fire and the preservation of life safety. One of the examples of
which is basing the emergency plan on the outcome of fire safety risk assessment.
There are many things that can happen with just a snap of the moment, sometimes by man
and usually made by nature. In every situations, lives are at risk, we can't guarantee the safety of
everyone and prioritize our loved ones. In these so called casualties, one major experience can suffer
a lifetime, and that is fire. In this study, we research how these things can be solve with the help of a
firefighter, what are the things they do to prepare and reasons on the delay of there service.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported that fires in the country went down by 4.02
percent from January 1 to December 26 this year. The province of Pangasinan will involve the
communities in fire prevention and fire safety efforts with the launching of Safe Alert Focus and
Empowered (SAFE). SAFE aims to have a sustainable fire-hazard-free province; engage people actively
in advocating safety in all levels; for BFP personnel to become highly motivated rescuers and
firefighters by conducting training in all barangays and households in the community; establish closer
linkages and multi-sector safety partnership between and among government and private disaster
rescuers, other safety oriented organizations and entities; and to train force multipliers on road
safety, vehicular accident responders and other skills within the province. The project also covers the
environmental aspects, wherein it targets to help make the environment safe from all hazardous
materials, preserve forests against fires and preserve air quality against firecrackers, pyrotechnics and
other kinds of air pollutants. Through this, they wanted people to become knowledgeable and be
resilient in times of disaster like fire. It will be the first step in attaining the goals of the said project,
wherein BFP personnel in various stations in the province will go to the communities to conduct
lectures on fire prevention and safety tips during fire incidents. The firefighters will also undergo
firefighting trainings to be more equipped in performing their job.
Preventing a fire in the first place is always better than fighting it. However, in the
unfortunate event of a fire, the aim is to extinguish it while it is in its “local” state, it should not have
spread to other compartments or machinery/equipment. At the same time it is a very important
consideration that the fire fighters must not be exposed to an unacceptable degree of risk. Response
time is therefore critical.
Every year, fire prevention is being observed in the Philippines during the month of March as
it showed the highest record of fire incidents nationwide. BFP said the observation aims to increase
fire safety consciousness and remind people to be cautious and responsible at home and in the
workplace. However, the warm season or even the month of March should not be the only time that
people should think of fire-safety, because even in wet season, fire incidents also happen.
Filipinos should always be on guard and take necessary safety and prevention against
destructive fire in their households, schools, workplaces and communities. In order to prevent
potential fires, the public should practice and remember the following fire prevention and safety tips:
Dispose flammable materials properly and always keep flammable items out of children’s
reach.
Never leave your kitchen while cooking.
Dispose cigarette butts properly and always keep your place clean at all times.
Regularly check the electrical installation in their homes and workplaces and have their
damaged electrical wirings and electrical fixtures be repaired or changed by a licensed
electrician.
Practice to unplug any unused appliances.
Avoid electrical circuits overload by putting additional lights and appliances and stop illegal
electrical connection.
Switch off liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank’ regulator when not in use. Place LPG tanks in a
well-ventilated space.
Avoid using substandard appliances. When buying appliances, always check the quality mark
or sticker to ensure that the product passed the quality standard testing.
Learn your building's emergency evacuation plan. Make a home escape plan that includes it.
Practice the plan with everyone in your household.
Save the numbers of fire departments in phones and call for firefighters immediately in case
of fire.
