Milestone 1: Personal Essay

Introduction:
To talk about the past, we must know that many times the mistakes we make are nothing
more than learning experiences. Not having acted in the correct way is due to not having
the knowledge that we have today to solve the problems or situations that arise. I make
this small introduction because there is an abstract term with which I feel very identified,
and that is chaos. Chaos is something that I have dealt with in my life, and on many
occasions, it has greatly affected my growth. Thanks to much experience and learning,
today I can say that I handle it a little better. So, here we go with the story.

When I was a teenager, I had a problem with my family. For a long time, I fought with my
dad in a dysfunctional way that somehow affected me a lot in my growth stage. I didn't
realize that it was hurting me severely, and I thought that's how life worked until my
parents divorced. I think that was the moment when I understood that many things in my
life didn't have to be related to chaos. It was then that I realized that there didn't
necessarily have to be serious problems in your life all the time. That's when you take a
break, and things don't seem so difficult to handle anymore. I believe that the damage I
suffered during that time is what now makes me think that things are not as hard as they
seem, that if you got out of one situation, you'll get out of another, and so on. In my
experience, this is what has made me the person I am today, or at least a big part of it.

Right now, I am working to become a professional. I am studying two majors to grow in my

career: one is automotive mechatronic engineering and the other is administration. I
believe that this is the perfect moment in my life to prepare myself and do things properly.
I am proud to share this part of my life because it's a transitional stage toward an adult life
where I am working to make it as comfortable as possible for myself and my family.

In 5 or 10 years, I see myself with my girlfriend, with whom I have imagined and dreamed
of a thousand things, which would be difficult to achieve without her daily motivation and
encouragement. I think it is difficult to imagine what the future holds for me, but the only
thing I am certain of is that I will continue working on my career and for my family by that
time.

From a life project perspective, I believe that by that time, I will have completed my
degrees, with greater emotional stability and better economic situation. In 10 years, I hope
to be working towards a good life and being able to help my parents. It is easy for me to
talk about what I expect in 10 years as a short or long-term goal because I consider myself
a dreamer. This is how I imagine my life in the future, and I hope it will be so because I
believe that with hard work, this can be achieved excellently. I think consistency is the best
thing we can have.
Outside of my family, in high school, I had a math teacher. To be honest, I was quite
distracted and at that time I had a hard time understanding how important my classes
really were. I didn't consider how this affected the effort my parents were making for me.

I was in my third year of high school, struggling with trigonometry, and to be honest, I still
hate it a little. During the first grading period, I was quite determined with my homework
and decided not to do it, skip class and ignore the attention my teachers were giving me.
All of this led to consequences for me and somehow, I managed to make my parents not
notice my actions. The semester ended and I failed some subjects, which made my
graduation a little delayed since I didn't have all my courses completed. However, when I
had to retake the exam, I prepared for a very short time and passed all my subjects and
graduated on time.

This doesn't really seem like a story that taught me a lesson, but it comes directly from my
math teacher. He talked to me and said he was upset to see my situation and attitude
towards school. He told me a similar anecdote to what I was going through at the time and
I remember him saying that the most valuable thing I have in my life is the ability to learn,
that I shouldn't waste it, that many times we don't know what we're missing because of a
little laziness or senseless dreams that deprive us of educational freedom in adolescence. I
think this is the most important lesson I have learned outside of my family and it was given
to me by a teacher.

Conclusion:
The experiences we go through in life shape us into the people we become, and the
lessons we learn stay with us forever. In this personal reflection, I have shared some of the
most important experiences that have helped shape my character, and the lessons I have
learned from them.

From my academic struggles in high school to my determination to pursue two degrees

simultaneously in college, I have learned that hard work and perseverance are key to
achieving success. I have also learned that seeking guidance and support from mentors
and educators can provide invaluable insights and opportunities for growth.

Perhaps the most important lesson I have learned is the value of learning itself. As my high
school math teacher taught me, the ability to learn is one of the most precious gifts we
have, and we should not squander it through laziness or lack of motivation. This lesson has
stayed with me throughout my academic journey and beyond, inspiring me to continue
learning and growing throughout my life.

Overall, my experiences have taught me that success is not achieved through luck or talent
alone, but through dedication, hard work, and a willingness to learn and grow. I am
grateful for the people who have helped shape my journey thus far, and I am excited to see
where my continued pursuit of knowledge and personal growth will take me in the future.
