Social Problem Vocabulary
As we already know, vocabulary is very important to learn as our main capital to learn
English proficiency. However, memorizing vocabulary is not a piece of cake. We need effort
and willingness to maximize our learning process. Nowadays, there are still many students
who have problems with vocabulary. Their lack of knowledge about vocabulary makes them
often mention the same word many times such as fun, good, and beautiful. And this is called
‘Overused Words’. They should be able to use other words that have the same meaning, so
they don't seem boring, and their abilities look better. This also happened when they wrote.
They are also unable to describe more about what they want to convey, for example when
explaining about a hobby they like, ‘I like playing soccer because it's fun’. That is it, no
more.
So, the lack of vocab leads them to mention overused words. The right solution to solve this
problem is to use synonyms. But before that, I will explain the meaning of synonyms.
Material :
A synonym is a word that has the same meaning as another word (or nearly the same
meaning). It can be nouns, adjectives, adverbs, or verbs. Synonyms have three main types
based on how close the words’ meanings are.
1. Absolute synonyms. Absolute synonyms are words that have exactly the same
meaning. For example, the word 'drink' has the same meaning as 'beverage'.
2. Partial Synonyms. Partial synonyms are words that have similar meanings with only a
slight difference in degree or amount. For example, the word 'big' has a similar meaning
to 'gigantic’ but differs in the sense of degree. 'Gigantic' means very very big or we can
say extremely large.
3. Near Synonyms. Near synonyms are words that have different meanings that are
closely related to one another. For example, the word 'river' has a close meaning to
'creek’ but differs in its pronouncement function. 'Creek' is used to mention the small
body of following water, while 'river' is used to mention the large body of following
water.
Synonyms are very important to learn to expand our vocabulary when writing or speaking
in longform. Synonyms have two main uses : First, help select words to find a more
accurate match to the meaning you want to communicate. Second, help you add more variety
to your writing and avoid using the same word too much. It also helps make your writing
more vivid and creates a more engaging image.
The important thing that you should pay attention to is you have to be careful with slight
differences between synonyms. Because not all synonyms are suitable for all situations. You
have to consider several factors, including context and the relationships between words.
Here are the most overused word and some exciting synonyms that you can use :

1. Good
This word is very much used in our daily life, right? . We can use good for almost
everything. Let’s take a look at this sentence : That movie is good to see. Instead of

very good you can use ‘Excellent’, ‘Amazing’. “An excellent movie”, “An amazing
movie”. Another word, if you want to say very very good, you can say ‘wonderful’,

a gorgeous dress! ”, “A stunning dress”, “you look splendid in that outfit”.
How to determine the words that can be replaced with synonyms? (dubbing)
Okay, I’ll give you some tips.
1. Know the words you often say. if you often say the word fun, take your attention to that
word.
2. Understand the meaning of the word you often mention. For example, you often say "fun"
because you want to express a pleasant feeling.
3. Look for other words that have the same or nearly the same meaning as you want. For
example, a synonym for the word Fun is enjoyable.
4. Combine the synonyms of the word with your sentence and understand the meaning. You
can use an online dictionary to translate your sentences. If you feel the meaning is different,
you should replace it with another word that is more suitable.

Indonesianya yaa :

Seperti yang sudah kita ketahui bahwa vocabulary sangat penting dipelajari sebagai modal
utama kita untuk mempelajari kecakapan dalam berbahasa inggris. Namun, menghafalkan
vocabulary bukan hal yang mudah. Kita butuh usaha dan kemauan diri agar proses belajar
kita maksimal. Saat ini, masih banyak siswa yang bermasalah dengan kosakata. Kurangnya
pengetahuan mereka tentang kosakata, membuat mereka sering menyebutkan kosakata yang
sama berkali-kali seperti fun, good, and pretty. Dan ini yang disebut dengan “Overused
Word”.
sinonim.
