Gospel
  The word “gospel” means news.
 The sum of the saving truth as God has communicated it to lost humanity as it is
revealed in the person of His Son and in the Holy Scriptures, the Bible.
2. Emmanuel
 The word Emmanuel appears 4 times in the Bible—three times in Isaiah and once in
Matthew. Emmanuel means “God with us” and is a name for Jesus.
 The name “Emmanuel” points to the prevalent biblical theme of God’s presence with His
people. The idea of “God with us” is the embodiment of all of God’s promises to Israel and
to all who will trust in Him.
3. Judaism
 Judaism is the world’s oldest monotheistic religion, dating back
nearly 4,000 years. Followers of Judaism believe in one God
who revealed himself through ancient prophets. The history of
Judaism is essential to understanding the Jewish faith, which
has a rich heritage of law, culture and tradition.
4. Jew/Jews
 it is translated as “brothers.” The root meaning of the Hebrew word helps us
understand why the word can be translated as Jew, Jews, Jewish, Judea or Judah.

testaments)
5. Samaritan

Jerusalem.
 The Pharisees were rabbis who believed the Temple was unnecessary and Torah
was the most important aspect of Jewish life. They worshipped in synagogues,
interpreted the Torah, and most notably, believed in the importance of oral law
(Torah she’bal peh). This group believed that God gave us instructions orally at Mt.
Sinai, and those laws were just as important as the laws written in the Torah.
 Pharisees didn’t really like living under Roman rule. The Pharisees’ Judaism is what
we practice today, as we can’t make sacrifices at the Temple and instead we worship
in synagogues.
7. Saducees
 The Sadducees were the wealthy upper class, who were involved with the
priesthood. They completely rejected oral law.
The Sadducees’ job was to make sacrifices and maintain the Temple’s purity.
Although the Sadducees were the most involved with the Temple, they were also the
most
8. Palestina/Palestine
 When World War I ended in 1918 with an Allied victory, the 400-year Ottoman
Empire rule ended, and Great Britain took control over what became known as
Palestine (modern-day Israel, Palestine and Jordan).
 The word Palestine derives from the Greek word, Philistia,
which dates to Ancient Greek writers' descriptions of the
region in the 12th century B.C.
 Palestine typically referred to the geographic region located
between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River.
9. Palestinians
 The Palestinian people are an Arab ethno-nationalist group residing
primarily in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, Israel, Jordan and parts of
southern Lebanon and Syria.
 Under the British rule, the residents of Palestine were called "Palestinians".
Since Palestine included both modern day Israel and Jordan, both Arab and
Jewish residents of this area were referred to as "Palestinians".
