VI. RATIONALE:
Effective teachers should be fully equipped with strategies and techniques to address
students’ varying learning styles and academic capabilities. However, being an effective teacher
is a great challenge. Thus, teachers should be engaged in a regular professional development
such as this session.
In line with the new professional standards for teachers, the Department of Education
(DepEd), through the Teacher Education Council (TEC), issued this DepEd Order No. 42, s.
2017, titled National Adoption and Implementation of the Philippine Professional Standards for
Teachers (PPST). As mandated by this order, it should be ensured that teachers are properly
equipped to effectively implement the K to 12 Program. The DepEd also recognizes the
importance of professional standards in the continuing professional development and
advancement of teachers based on the principle of lifelong learning. Hence, enhancing teacher
quality becomes the utmost importance for long term and sustainable nation building.
VIII. OBJECTIVE:
The activity aims to:
- familiarize teachers on the Compendium of PRIMALS teaching resources in English and its
framework;
- enhance the teacher’s content knowledge and pedagogical skills in literacy instruction;
- develop exemplar lesson plans design for use by English teachers in Grades 7-10 and guides
for literacy strategies that can be used across the curriculum.
