The Most Common Defects

 An extruded profile may be deemed to be a reject (unacceptable product that does not fulfill standard or
customer specifications), owing to any of the following defects:
I. Extrusion defects
II. Physical defects
III. Surface quality
IV. Other defects

Extrusion defects

 Waving  Pin hole  Speed cracking

 Speed difference  Blow hole  Die chock
 De –coring  Tearing  Die pressure
 Back end & front end pushing  Shearing  Die broken
 Blisters  White pickup  slivers
 Pitting  Deflection line  die line & micro die line
 Rough line & micro rough  Projection line  screw line & step mark
line
 Lubrication oil mark

Physical defects

 Bulging  Shape out  Twist

 Concave  Dent & damage  Belt mark
 Uneven  Pulling  Scratches
 Graphite line  Dimensional variation  Cutting oil mark
 Angle (inward & outward)  Puller bend  bend
 Low hardness

Surface quality
 Streaking line (A,B,C)  Water stain  Longitudinal Weld
 Projection line  Oxide practical’s  Non-Uniform Appearance
 Rough surface  Graphite inclusion  Hot spots & spangle
 Orange peel  White line  Silicon Marks
 Transverse Weld  Extrusion Pressure line  Black line
 Run out marks  Die stop mark  Stains & oil patches
 Hot rub marks  Black Pits  Corrosion
 Dull finish  Caustic Patches  Non-Uniform Etching (NUE)
 Less Microns  Dust Particles  Overlapping

Other defects
 Cutting edge bend
 Aluminum chips
 Uneven material stacking
 Handling damage
