COOP TRAINING GUIDE

COOP Training:
Cooperative training is a structured method of combining classroom based education with Practical Work Experience. Students are expected to learn skills related to their degree or major field of study in a work setting. It comprises of total of 16 weeks, 14 weeks of on-job training and 2 weeks at the college to compile their work, prepare report and present key points of their learning outcome.

COOP Training Phases/Schedule:


The COOP has officially started from 25th June 2011 (Start of week-1) and ends on 28th September 2011, followed by submission of final report and presentation till 05th October 2011. Following is the schedule of COOP Training:

Students Key Task Responsibility:


Student should be working on tasks related to their specific major. Prepare themselves to enter advance studies and/or workforce community. Be regular and punctual at your work place. Perform your assigned tasks with diligently, efficiently. Whatever you do on COOP, Document it like any issues, problems, strategies, learning etc. Maintain daily log sheet have job assigned and performed by you, any exceptions, projects and/or additional tasks. Compile Weekly log sheet and submit to your advisor. Presentation of your work done during Advisors Site visit or Students visit to College. Prepare 02 Progress Reports, submit and present them to departmental Coop training committee. Preparation of final report and its presentation. Keep close coordination with your field supervisor and academic advisor. Collect COOP Training Assessment Report from Field Supervisor and submits to Academic Advisor with Final Report.

Students Visit Schedule:


Students must visit the college to meet and to get advise by their academic advisor during their COOP Training according to the following schedule. The meeting should , in coordination with ; To discuss and present their first / second progress report: Week 6 Week 12 In lieu of Advisor Visit (If required): Week 4 Week 10 For Compilation of work done, preparation of final report and presentation: Week 15 Week 16 Week - 17

Documents to be Produced by Students: Students are required to document their training in many ways and need to produce certain
documents for evaluation of COOP Training. Following is the list of documents and their purpose.

Expected Learning Outcome of Students


Beside the general enhancement in all areas of MIS the specific learning outcome would be as follows: KNOWLEDGE: Able to gain understanding of various MIS approaches in dealing business functions with specific emphasis on MIS domains. Grab critical awareness of selected tools and techniques which support problems solving in a practical working environment. Study good management techniques, work place culture, professional ethics. These gained knowledge can and will be utilize for following: ABILITIES: Able to deals with IT/IS security, social, ethical and professional issues. Can participate as an effective member of a team in the specification and production of quality information system management and development. Can identify, develop and apply appropriate protocols, standards, metrics, methodologies, tools and techniques.

Role of Academic Advisor


Understanding a Co-op students objectives Ensure the student is working on projects related to their specific college major. Support them in completing the objectives. Supervision and monitoring of their coop training. Coordination Maintain close coordination with students. Supervision and monitoring of their training. Maintain links with CTU, field supervisor on students performance. Arrange and do site visits to evaluate students ongoing performance Documentation Help student document their performance Help student in preparing log sheets, progress reports, final report and presentation. Verify the hours that the co-op student works. Advisor's Evaluations Feedback from the advisor to student. Evaluation of students attendance and working during their co-op placement, progress report, final report, presentation etc.

Documents to be Produced by Academic Advisor: Academic Advisors are required to monitor, supervise and document the COOP training of
student, to produce certain documents for evaluation of students COOP Training. Following is the list of documents and their purpose.

GRADING CRITERIA
Students are judged based on the following: Field Supervisor: 30 % (Regularity and Punctuality, Performance, etc) Academic Advisor: 20 % (Progress Report, Site Visit Evaluation, and efforts etc) Final Report: 30 % (Content, Design, Language, Research and Reference etc) Presentation: 20 % (Presentation, Communication Skills etc)
