2023-03-05 Goodness of God
The Goodness of God is more than just a saying. It's a foundational truth! If
our God is just "god", the proof that He exists would not be efficient. Araw-araw,
we live life as if we are trying to find God. Trying to "please" Him. Looking for
things to be "holy" and feel like we've "done enough" to be considered a righteous
person. "Attend church. Attend activities. Sasali ako sa ministries. Maginvite ako.
Tataas akong kamay para mukhang holy ako. Iiyak ako during songs to feel para
mapatawad ako sa ginawa ko last week."
LAHAT YAN.... U S E L E S S sa mata ng Diyos kung wala tayong surrendering
heart to God. The Goodness of God shows us what we are WITHOUT Him.
We will talk about The Prodigal Son para mas clear yung topic.
Luke 15.10
10 I tell you, in the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels
over one sinner who repents.”
Recognizing that God's Goodness is over us and we are living under His wing is what
it's like to be joyous. Revival in Spirit and in Truth of who God is. That is He is
a Good and Loving God.
Luke 15.11-12
11 He also said, “A man had two sons. 12 The younger of them said to his
father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate I have coming to me.’ So he
distributed the assets to them.
Traditionally, the distributed assets of the father would be divided among the
siblings as follows. The eldest son would receive 2/3 of his assets and wealth.
While the rest of the siblings receive what's left. So in this case, the older
brother would receive 2/3 of the father's wealth while the younger son receives
1/3. What made this transaction so interesting in Verse 12 is that the assets are
distributed AFTER the father's passing. Asking for the assets while he is still
alive is an act of the upmost disrespect and inconsideration.
Luke 15.13-16
13 Not many days later, the younger son gathered together all he had and
traveled to a distant country, where he squandered his estate in foolish living. 14
After he had spent everything, a severe famine struck that country, and he had
nothing. 14 After he had spent everything, a severe famine struck that country, and
he had nothing.
Obviously, like anything...all that the younger son had received from his father
has depleted. Much like is living in the world, we tend to not have any
responsibility of what life God has given us.
Luke 15.17-19
17 When he came to his senses he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired workers
have more than enough food, and here I am dying of hunger! 18 I’ll get up, go to my
father, and say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. 19
I’m no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired
workers.”’
We will come to realize that our lives are empty without God and eventually desire
to find a way to be saved from our life here on earth.
Luke 15.20-21
20 So he got up and went to his father. But while the son was still a long
way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion. He ran, threw his arms
around his neck, and kissed him. 21 The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned
against heaven and in your sight. I’m no longer worthy to be called your son.’
Though, we find our search for forgiveness is approached in the wrong way. We feel
that we need to act, act, act and work, work, work to be saved and forgiven of what
acts we've committed. In this section, we find that the father isn't really
listening. Based on the father's actions, all he cares about is his son has
returned. He has welcomed his son in open arms.
Luke 15.22-23
22 “But the father told his servants, ‘Quick! Bring out the best robe and put
it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Then bring the
fattened calf and slaughter it, and let’s celebrate with a feast, 24 because this
son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found!’ So they began
to celebrate.
As mentioned earlier, the son isn't being listened to right now. The father is so
excited that he demanded a celebration right away. Right there and right now. It
isn't a matter of words or actions the son could say or do would save him from the
wrath of poverty and death. The father has already excused his son from all wrong
just with the act of returning to him. WE, as Christians and even non-believers
must realize that we cannot find God with our words and actions. He will find us.
And He will be excited when He does. The Goodness of God is the mere sight of you
returning to God.
In Luke 15.24-30...we find the older son with a writhing anger and envy. The father
tries to console and help him realize that his anger and envy isn't worth getting
worked up about. He shows his son that he loves both of his sons equally. This
celebration that the older son is angry is an expression of a father who has missed
his missing son who has returned.
This older son can also represent the older Christians. We get so caught up in
being in church, we forget how God our God is. We forget all the good God has done
for us and selfishly think about ourselves and believe that we deserve better
treatment through and through just because we have remained "faithful to the Lord".
Luke 15.31-32
31 “‘Son,’ he said to him, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is
yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was
dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”
Much like this passage, REGARDLESS of where we are in out faith, we can
and will inevitably forget about the Goodness of God. And it needs to be recognized
when we get the slightest hint. Without the the knowledge of the Goodness of God,
we cannot truly start in understand who God really is.
