The table below lists safety symbols that appear on the MERLIN Transformer Rectifier Monitor and
within this document.
Symbol Description
Hazardous voltage. Voltage > 30V AC (42.4V peak) or 60V DC may be present
The ON/OFF Potential channel of the MERLIN Transformer Rectifier Monitor is intended to
MERLIN measure ±4V. It can handle a maximum input voltage of 70V AC (RMS) and 70V DC without
damage.
Transformer Rectifier Monitor Maximum Input Voltage for TR Volts Channel
The TR Volts channel of the MERLIN Transformer Rectifier Monitor has a maximum input voltage
of 150V AC and 150V DC. The unit has protection against high voltage transients built in, but there
is a limit to the amount of energy it can dissipate.
Quick Start Guide
Maximum Input Voltage for TR Shunt Channel
& The TR Shunt channel of the MERLIN Transformer Rectifier Monitor provides readings up to
100mV AC and ±100mV DC. The channel itself should not be exposed to voltages greater than
Safety Information ±4V peak. Voltages greater than this will cause the channel input protection to activate which can
only protect the unit for a limited period of time.
When using the MERLIN Transformer Rectifier Monitor on rectifiers with an output greater than
60V DC, care should be taken as there is a danger of electric shock.
Channels 1 and 3 have CAT IV surge protection at their rate input voltage ranges. Channel 2 has

Step 2 - Rectifier Check Monitor Installation Instructions for further information.
Status LEDs
Step 3 - Check the MERLIN Monitor After approximately 60 seconds, the green LED should start flashing once every 2 seconds, this
confirms the unit has logged onto the network. If the green LED is double-flashing every 2 seconds,
then the unit is running but cannot log onto the network.
Check the MERLIN Transformer Rectifier Monitor has a SIM card fitted and the SIM card (phone)
number is clearly noted on the front label. This is the phone number the system uses to
communicate with the MERLIN Transformer Rectifier Monitor.
Step 4 - Name the MERLIN CP Monitor (Optional) Send the text command CMD:READ from your phone to the number on the MERLIN Transformer
Rectifier Monitor. The unit will take a reading on all channels and sent the results back to your
phone. A reply will look similar to: CPM:20 UNIT 10000001 TR VOLTS:18.00V SHUNT:20mV ON:0mV
OFF:0mV
Take a reading on the terminals using a multimeter and compare the measurements against the
readings given by the MERLIN Transformer Rectifier Monitor. If any of the readings are inconsistent
with the multimeter, check the wiring and the condition of the reference cell.
To aid installation and management, write (or print using a label maker) the name of the Pipeline
and a Location name on the label of the MERLIN Transformer Rectifier Monitor in the space
provided.
Step 5 - Gather Equipment for Installation 1) Send the text command CMD:CONFIG HQ1:XXXX - where XXXX is your HQ number.
To install the MERLIN Transformer Rectifier Monitor at the rectifier you will need: 2) Send the text command CMD:INSTALL PIPE:YYYY LOC:ZZZZ - where YYYY and ZZZZ match
• Shunt - of correct value the names assigned in Step 4.
