4 Description

4.1 Meaning of model

AH L B - 16 x16
Width of cooling bin (dmxdm)
Pendulum
Pellet cooling
Code of manufacturer

4.2 Main application

Cooler is mainly used for cooling of pellet feed in the feed pelleting section;
It cools the pellet feed coming from pellet mill and with a temperature of
70 90 to a temperature +3 slightly higher than ambient tempera-
ture, and is capable of lowering the safety moisture content to a safety level;
The cooled pellets can not only improve in hardness but also can prevent from
going moldy, which facilitates the transportation and storage of pellet feed.

4.3 Performance features

Pendulum Cooler cools the pellets with high temperature and high humidity by
using the principle of counterflow cooling, avoiding cool air directly meeting hot
pellets to make pellets cool rapidly with a result of crack of pellet surface;
In addition, airlock is used for feeding and air-in area is large, so the cooling ef-
fect is remarkable;
Moreover, this machine is low in energy consumption and convenient in opera-
tion.

4.4 Working principle

Pellet feed with high temperature and high humidity coming from pellet mill
passes through the rotary air-closed feeder at the top of cooler and rhomb ta-
per spreader at the top of bin and is evenly spread in five ways, front, rear, left,
right and middle, to flow into the cooling bin.
When pellet feed piles up to a certain height and is heat-insulated for a certain
period of time, level indicator on the bin signals to make the hydraulic cylinder
drive the crank and connecting rod mechanism to reciprocate, and flaps re-
volve around their own shafts, so that the feed is discharged evenly to the dis-
charging hopper through the gap between flaps.

BCHA
Pendulum Cooler AHLB-67027-1-en-1204
16 Chapter 4 Description
When flaps revolve to a certain degree, proximity switch is activated hydrau-
lic system stops, product falling continues, and time relay starts to work.
After a preset period, hydraulic system begins to work and recover the flap to
original position, then product stops falling.
If the product piles up to the height of level indicator again, the level indicator
signals again to continue the above said discharging process. In the whole
working process of cooler, fan keeps working.Feed flows downwards, while air
flows upwards opposite to the flowing direction of feed, furthermore, cool air
meets cool feed and hot air meets hot feed so as to make pellet feed cool
gradually. Therefore, this cooler is called counterflow cooler.
When pellet feed stays in the bin, it makes heat exchange with the coming cool
air, and air carries off heat and moisture of feed, serving to cool the feed and
reduce the moisture content.

4.5 Structure features

It mainly consists of rotary air-closed feeder, spreading mechanism (rhombic taper
spreader or rotary distributing mechanism), cooling bin, hydraulic system, sight
glass, machine frame, hopper and discharging mechanism.

4.6 Structure of main components

4.6.1 Spreading mechanism

Spreading mechanism is set in cooling bin:

Standard configuration of AHLB16×16 and AHLB20×20 contains rhomb taper
spreader;
Rotary distributing mechanism is optional for AHLB20×20;
Standard configuration of AHLB22×22, AHLB24×24, AHLB24×28, AHLB28×28
and AHLB32×32 contains rotary distributing mechanism.

Rhomb taper spreader

Rhomb taper spreader serves to spread and make the pellet feed evenly ac-
cumulate in the cooling bin.
It mainly consists of four 1/4 rhomb taper bodies and support. See Figure 4.2
for its structure.
Distance between the four 1/4 rhomb taper bodies is adjustable to change the
spreading area of feed.

Rotary distributing mechanism

It is installed in the cooling chamber and driven by a gearmotor connected with

motor through joint coupling.
The upper output shaft is connected with two slantwise buffer plates. The dis-
tance between the two plates can be adjusted. Lower output shaft is connected
with distributing rod, on which distributing plates are installed.
The products go into cooler from the inlet, through rotary buffer plate and the
gap, fall down around the cooling chamber and in the centre of the cooling
chamber. Products spread evenly in the cooling chamber under action of dis-
tributing rod and plate.
Note the height of distributing rod, products should be not higher than 1/2 of
distributing plate.

4.6.2 Pendulum Discharging Mechanism

Pendulum discharging mechanism is mainly composed of upper and lower dis-

charging plates, hydraulic cylinder, limit switch, limit rod, left and right barrel,
connecting rod, and bolts, see Figure 4.4.
Positions of upper and lower material stopping can be controlled by the move-
ment of hydraulic cylinder.
No discharge, 0 degree; Normal discharge, 25 degree; emptying, 55 degree.

4.7 Air network system

The air network system is the necessary equipment supplying the cool air. It con-
sists of cyclone, airlock, fan and pipes. See Figure 4.5.

1. Counterflow cooler 2. Cyclone 3. Airlock 4. Fan
Figure 4.5 Air network system
Fan is disposed behind the cyclone and they are connected with air pipe.
Try your best to shorten the length of air pipe, especially for the horizontal sec-
tion, and to reduce the quantity of bend.

BCHA
Pendulum Cooler AHLB-67027-1-en-1204
20 Chapter 4 Description
The outer wall of pipe should be covered with thermal insulation material to
avoid the formation of condensate and prevent the powder feed forming there-
fore from blocking the air pipe.
An air volume adjusting device should be installed in the pipeline to adjust the
air volume.
Select the fan according to the capacity of cooler. The calculation parameter of
air volume is 25 34 m3 /t•min.
The air volume is related to the diameter of pellet to be cooled. Small diameter
needs low air volume, conversely, high air volume. See Table 4.1.
Table 4.2 Air absorption volume per ton of feed needed by pellets with differ-
ent diameters
Pellet diameter
5 6 10 20 22

Air absorption volume per ton of feed
22 25 28 31 34
(m3/t•min)
Make calculation according to the air absorption volume needed by pellet with
large diameter when determining the air absorption volume. Thus, you only
need to adjust the air door when pellet with small diameter is cooled.

4.8 Hydraulic system

4.8.1 Main Technical Parameters:

Volume of oil tank: 27L

Nominal working pressure: 5 MPa(max working pressure 12 Mpa)
Nominal working flow: 5.8L/min
Motor : 1.5kW, 1450rpm, AC380V 50Hz
Voltage controlled by solenoid valve: DC24V
Working media: 46# hydraulic oil

4.8.2 Matters for Attention of Hydraulic System:

Air filter is equipped in the system oil tank, which can keep convectional air
clean and serve as the oil-adding point for the tank.
System working media need to go through oil filter press(with the precision of
no less than 25 m) first, then go to the oil tank. Oil level should be 80% of the
whole height.
For all the hydraulic piping, connection should not be done unless cleanness
level reaches system requirements.
Connect the power supply, point move the motor of oil pump to check whether
the rotation direction is the same as regulated. clockwise from flight side

BCHA
Pendulum Cooler AHLB-67027-1-en-1204
Chapter 4 Description 21
Solenoid selector valve uses power to load, and regulate stacked overflow
valve regulate screw system clockwise, the pressure rises; regulate screw
system anticlockwise, the pressure decreases . Run the system at 1 Mpa for
10 minutes, and check the noises of pump, motor, and pipe, as well as tem-
perature and leakage. If it works well, the overflow valve can be increased by 2
Mpa for a time, in which the pressure needs to be kept for 2 to 3 minutes. Then
further adjust it to working pressure, check pressure, temperature, leakage and
noise again. If it works well, you can regulate the hydraulic cylinder.
The hydraulic cylinder adopts three-position four way solenoid selector valve to
change moving direction. Double moving direction of hydraulic cylinder can be
adjusted regulate stacked single-way throttle valve, rotate adjusting screw
clockwise, the hydraulic speed decreases, rotate adjusting screw anticlock-
wise, the hydraulic speed increases.
Normal working temperature is 15 to 60 if lower, working liquid should be
pre-heated. If higher, stop the machine and cool it.
After hydraulic system works, please regularly check the tightness of all install-
ing screws of hydraulic valves and unions. Send pressure gauge to check and
spot check the quality of working liquid. Change filter elements, clean oil tank
and replace old oil with new one regularly.
When troubles happen in hydraulic system, pressure need to be released first,
and then checked and maintained by professionals.

Pay attention to package labels.

5.2 Delivery inspection

Inspect the integrity of delivery according to delivery note
Report missing parts and transport-induced damage. See "Chapter 1.2 Con-
tact".

5.3 Lifting and transportation

During the lifting and transportation, pay attention to the centre of gravity of
machine, also the machine can be fixed on a flat plate under which pipes are
placed so as to make the machine move flat.
When the machine will be laid aside for a long time, it should be kept in a well-
ventilated, dry and cool place, and there should be damp-proof facilities. The
exposed surface not coated with paint should be coated with anti-rusting oil.

6 Installation

6.1 Prepare for installation

This machine should be generally installed on the solid level foundation and
tightened with anchor bolts. If the workshop ground is solid, foundation need
not be constructed separately. The machine can be fixed on the workshop
ground directly with expansion bolts or in other ways.
If disposing the machine on the floor, weld the anchor bolts to the reinforcing
steel bar in the floor, or make the bolts pass through the floor and clamp the
foundation of this machine with a pressing plate.

6.2 Installation instruction

This machine is divided into several sections for packing and delivery. Assem-
ble the machine according to attached drawings when installing.
After the packing cases are opened, carefully check to see if the cooler de-
forms or is damaged during the transportation, if fasteners become loose or
come off, especially, if the connecting bolts of all parts become loose.
The discharging mechanism should be adjusted to level position with levelling
line, and solidify the foundation under the supporting legs.
Install the cooling bin and feeding airlock.
After the cooler is installed well, motor cable cannot touch or fractionate the
machine frame or other bodies. It would be better that cable is in a condition of
natural hanging. The total length should be 3 5 m, and the bent radius of the
natural hanging part should be 0.5 0.7 m.
When installing the cooler, try your best to align the position of feed inlet with
the upper feeding port of airlock.

7 Commissioning

7.1 Adjustment of spreader

The spreader is mounted under the outlet of airlock. The device spreads the
pellet feed to make the pellet feed basically accumulate in the bin evenly. If it
is found that the feed in the bin is more in the centre and less around, or less in
the centre and more around, that means the feed is not evenly spread. The
distance between four rhomb taper spreaders on the top of machine needs to
be adjusted.
Adjusting method: See Figure 4.2. Loosen the spreader-connecting bolts in the
spreader housing on the top of bin firstly. At this moment, spreader can be
moved towards two sides or centre. Tighten the loosened bolts after adjusting.

7.2 Adjustment of discharging

Flow adjusting system in cooling bin is used for controlling rotary angle of flap.
Rotary angle can be enlarged by increasing the distance between two prox-
imity switches, thus increasing discharging flow and speed, and vice versa.
Flow adjusting system can be regulated according to the real working condition
to optimise the system.
When it is needed to emptying all materials in the bin, distance between prox-
imity switches should be increased and relay time should be extended, making
material discharging longer. For the working procedure of flap, see Figure 7.1.

8 Operation

8.1 Pre-Start
Start Checks
Before feeding formally, race the machine to see if all parts inside the ma
ma-chine
are normal.
Check to see if bolts in the connecting sections of all parts are tight and rel
reli-
able, if level indicators and limit swit
switch
ch are mounted in the best positions.
Check to see if there are impurities inside the machine and the sliding grid is
flexible and reliable.
Feed firstly, then start the fan to make the air absorption system work no
nor-
mally.
After the machine stops, feed in the machine should be completely discharged
without any remainder to prevent pellets from sticking.

8.2 Safety indications and explanations

1. Cut off the power supply and turn off the machine before the maintenance
of sprocket and chain. Otherwise, rotary sprocket and chain will cause se-
s
vere damage. Please don't operate the machine without the protective co
cov-
er.
2. Before maintenance, all motors should be shut down and all power co
con-
nections should be cut off to prevent severe injuries caused by power supply
voltage.
3. Cut off the power supply before maintenance of rotary elements, to avoid
severe injuries caused by rotary elements. Meanwhile, please don’t operate
the machine without the protective cover.

4. Read operation instructions before ope

operation
ration and maintenance to avoid
unnecessary injuries and deaths.

5 Mobile discharging frame may cause severe injuries. Cut off the power
before inside maintenance and cleaning.

6. Power and machine need to be shutdown when entering no vent

venti-
lated place. Suffocation need to be avoided in operation.
