I. OBJECTIVES
Content Standards
a. The learners demonstrate an understanding of diseases that result from nutrient
deficiency and ingestion of harmful substances, and their prevention and
treatment.
Performance Standards
a. The learners should be able to present and analysis of the date gathered on
diseases resulting from nutrient deficiency and ingestion of harmful substance.
Learning Competencies
Students will be able to:
a. Explain diseases that result from nutrient deficiency and ingestion of harmful
substances;
b. List ways on how to prevent and treat nutrient deficiency disease.

KBI: Listen and Participate during class discussion.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


A. TOPIC: Diseases resulting from nutrient deficiency and ingestion of harmful
substances.
B. REFERENCE: k-12 Most Essential Learning Competencies with

C. MATERIALS: Laptop, PowerPoint Presentation, Pictures
D. CONCEPT: Nutritional disease, any of the nutrient-related diseases and
conditions that cause illness in humans. They may include deficiencies or
excesses in the diet, obesity and eating disorders, and chronic diseases such as
cardiovascular disease, hypertension, cancer, and diabetes mellitus.
Nutritional diseases also include developmental abnormalities that can
be prevented by diet, hereditary metabolic disorders that respond to dietary
treatment, the interaction of foods and nutrients with drugs, food allergies and
intolerances, and potential hazards in the food supply.

III.PROCEDURE
A. REVIEW
Instruction/s:
Answer the following: TRUE OR FALSE
1. The mouth is the beginning of the digestive tract.
2. The esophagus receives food from your mouth when you swallow.
3. The small intestine is a hollow organ, or "container," that holds food
while it is being mixed with stomach enzymes.
4. The pancreas secretes digestive enzymes into the duodenum that
break down protein, fats and carbohydrates.
5. The liver process the nutrients absorbed from the small intestine.

B. MOTIVATION
Let’s play a game, “THUMBS UP OR THUMBS DOWN”
Instruction/s:
1. Teacher will show some pictures of different kinds of foods.
2. Students will identify if the food is healthy by saying (THUMBS UP), not
healthy (THUMBS DOWN).

C. LESSON PROPER
A. ACTIVITY
Instruction/s: (Brainstorming by using a Graphic organizer (word web)
1. Let the students think of some examples of diseases (nutritional
deficiency) and ingestion of harmful substances that may affect our
digestive system.
2. Teacher will call for volunteers to share to the class their ideas.
B. ANALYSIS
Instruction/s:
1. Teacher will show pictures showing symptoms and diseases caused by
nutrient deficiency and ingestion of harmful substance.
Guide Question/s:
1. Do you experience these symptoms?
2. How are deficiency diseases caused in human beings?
3. Why do you think people suffer from a nutrient deficiency?
4. Are all the foods we consume safe? Why? Or why not? Justify your
answer.
5. Can deficiency diseases be prevented by eating a balanced diet?
Why or why not? Justify your answer.

C. ABSTRACT
Guide Question/s:
1. What is nutrient deficiency?
2. Give examples of nutritional deficiencies and harmful substances
that may affect the function of our digestive system.
3. Provide ways on how to prevent and treat diseases that resulted
from nutrient deficiency and ingestion of harmful substance.
4. Why is it important to determine nutrient deficiencies? And
diseases that obtain from intake of harmful substance?
5. Do you believe in the saying “Prevention is better than cure”?
D. APPLICATION
Instruction/s:
1. Teacher will group the class into three;
2. Assign each group
a. Group 1- Demonstrator
b. Group 2-Demonstrator
c. Group 3-Buyer
3. The two group (1 and 2) will develop a marketing strategy (logo,
brand name, or product) that will discuss about healthful practices
that will keep our digestive system healthy.
4. Group 1 and 2 will present their ideas to the buyer and try to
convince to buy their marketing plan.
Reminder/s:
1. Keep in mind the criteria.
2. Every demonstrator will have 5 minutes each to think of a
marketing plan, and to present their ideas.
3. The buyer will have 3 minutes to decide and 2 minutes to share
their chosen product (group).
