cardboard box that was open from one side. He keeps the box in a way that
the open side of the box faces sunlight near his window. After 2-3 days he
observes the shoot bends towards light as shown in the image.

(b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true.
13 What should be the position of the object when a concave mirror is to be used (1)
as a shaving mirror?

15 Why gold and platinum do not corrode in moist air? (1)
16 Acid + Metal → Salt + X. What is X in this equation? Write an equation to (1)
support this reaction.

21 A doctor has prescribed a corrective lens of power +1.5 D. Find the focal length (2)
of the lens. Is the prescribed lens diverging or converging?
26 Trace the sequence of events which occur in our body when a bright light is (2)
focussed on your eyes.

27 When do we consider a student sitting in the class to be myopic? List two (3)
causes of this defect. Draw a ray diagram using a corrective lens to correct this
eye defect.
28 A 5 cm tall object is placed on the principal axis of a convex lens of focal (3)
length 50 cm at a distance of 40 cm from it. Find nature, position and size of
the image.

(i)Most metal oxides are insoluble in water but some of these dissolve in
water. What are these oxides and their solutions in water called?
(ii)At ordinary temperature, the surface of metals such as magnesium,
aluminium and zinc etc is covered with a thin layer. What is the
composition of this layer. State its importance.
(iii) Some alkali metals can be cut with knife.

disease from which the man is suffering. Mention the hormone due to
imbalance of which he is suffering from this disease. Which endocrine gland
secretes this hormone?
(b) Name the endocrine gland which secretes growth hormone. What will be
the effect of the following on a person
(i) deficiency of growth hormone
(ii) excess secretion of growth hormone?
37 Case based question (5)
The spreading of light by the air molecules is called scattering of light. The light
having least wavelength scatters more. The colour of the scattered light
depends on the size of particles. The smaller the molecules in the atmosphere
scatter smaller wavelengths of light. The amount of scattering of light depends
on the wavelength of light. When light from sun enters the earth’s atmosphere,
it gets scattered by the dust particles and air molecules present in the
atmosphere. The path of sunlight entering in the dark room through a fine hole
is seen because of scattering of the sun light by the dust particles present in its
path inside the room.
a) What is Tyndall effect?
b) Why does the sky appear dark to astronauts?
