The districts are rebelling against the oppressive Capitol government in The Hunger Games. There are three reasons why the rebellion is justified. First, the Capitol uses extreme violence against the districts, killing many innocent people by bombing districts. Second, the Capitol bombed a hospital full of unarmed men, women and children. Third, the Capitol manipulated and tortured Peeta Mellark to persuade people to stop the rebellion. The districts are rebelling against the cruel acts of the Capitol.

In “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay”, a Science Fiction and Adventure novel by
Suzanne Collins, Katniss Everdeen, a 17-year-old girl, has survived The Hunger Games twice, which is an event done once a year, where boys and girls from twelve districts fight to death leaving one winner. Ever since Katniss won the Hunger Games, there have been whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol; the place where all the wealthy families live, including President Snow, the manager of the Games. All twelve districts are rebelling against the Capitol. The districts’ rebellion against the Capitol is a good cause. The first reason the districts’ rebellion is good is because the Capitol used extreme violence against the districts, killing many innocent people. The Capitol started bombing many places where innocent people were, including Katniss’ district. They even bombed a hospital full of injured people. The text says, “I’m here in District Eight, where the Capitol has just bombed a hospital full of unarmed men, women and children” (Collins 117). Katniss is saying this when she is in front of the camera that is filming her to show other districts what is going on. She is encouraging them to rebel against the Capitol, who, as we can see, has no piety toward the injured. The last reason the districts’ rebellion is justifiable is that another thing the Capitol did is manipulate Peeta Mellark, the boy who survived the Games along with Katniss, also twice, and won over Katniss’s heart. During the second games, Peeta wasn’t rescued and was taken as a prisoner. He was forced into saying things he didn’t want to say and had to persuade the country into stopping the rebellion so that he could stay alive. The book says, “The ceasefire’s clearly President Snow’s idea. But it seems so reasonable coming out of Peeta…He might have been tortured. Or persuaded” (Collins 35). These sentences are made by Gale, Katniss’s best friend. Here we can see what the Capitol is doing to Peeta, making him say these things. Due to the circumstances that the districts live in, their rebellion is well caused. The Capitol is a cruel, oppressive government that made severe punishments to people and had no piety against anyone. This book shows us both the cruelty of the Capitol against people and the rebellion that was made after so many years. The Capitol’s evilness is revealed, how they bombed a hospital full of innocent people and how they manipulated and tortured a boy to be a part of what they were doing. Rebellion has a cause; in this case, the cause is wickedness.
