The Aviation Motivation Program is a program aiming to increase awareness and develop interest
amongst young people in aviation careers within the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). Our focus
is on the Officer Aviation branch, which is home to several specific roles. These roles are described in
simple terms below. The program is intended for students from grades nine and above.
Our team conducts roadshows across Australia visiting schools, Air Force Cadet squadrons, air shows
and various public events of significance.
Our program includes immersive flying experiences in our state of the art virtual reality simulators,
Air Traffic Control games, aircrew life-support gear demonstrations, aviation presentations and
interaction with Officer Aviation specialists.
Our team is made up of highly motivated personnel that are either Officer Aviation experienced or
successfully selected and waiting to commence training.
What jobs in the RAAF do we focus on?
Officer Aviation:
Officer Aviation is a family of Commissioned Officers whose primary role is to participate in the
application of Air Power. The particular roles within this family are as follows:
Pilot:
Royal Australian Air Force pilots can fly either Fast Jet aircraft (Combat aircraft like the F-35
Lightning or F-18 Hornet) or Fixed Wing aircraft (Non-combat aircraft like the C-130 Hercules).
The Aviation Motivation Program offers two separate components that run concurrently and wherever
possible are tailored to align with the school timetables/activities.
Simulator Program
This component consists of a virtual reality experience flying a range of aircraft with controls
mounted in either a mock ejection seat or at the desk. Simulated Air Traffic Control is also available
as well as aircrew life support gear demonstrations. The program runs throughout the day and we
tailor it to fit as neatly into the school schedule as possible. The throughput for this program usually
involves 30 - 40 students over the course of the day.
Presentation Program
This component is a presentation, which will cover the Officer Aviation specific roles. It is the
background for informal group or individual conversations as required. Again our presentation is entirely
flexible and can be tailored to various sized groups and timetables.
Program Timetable:
To assist with your timetables we are able to accept 10 children every 30 mins but are able to slightly
increase or decrease these numbers as required.
The concurrent presentation component would be delivered in a venue, which could fit as many
students as possible and would run for approximately 30 minutes and re-run as much as required.
