Introduction
Nervous system is an organ system which consists of highly specialized cells
called neurons. These neurons form a network throughout the body and
conduct information via electrical impulses so as to coordinate and control
activities of different parts of the body
A neuron or nerve cell is
the structural and
functional unit of the
nervous system. It is
formed from neuroblast
A neuron consists of:
(i)Cell body
(ii) Dendrites
(iii)Axon
TYPES OF NEURONS
SENSORY MOTOR INTER
The sensory neurons transmit They transmit impulses from They occur in the central
impulse from the sense organs the central nervous system nervous system and serve as
towards the central nervous towards the effectors links between sensory and
system motor neurons
CONDUCTION OF
NERVE IMUSLE
The information is acquired at the dendritic end of neuron
The in formation sets off a chemical reaction that creates
an electric impulse which travels from dendrite to the cell
body and then along the axon to its end. The electric
impulse is generated and conducted due to the action of
different types of ion channels present on the plasma
membrane of neurons
