Chapter I
Background of the Study

INTRODUCTION

In modern times, we cannot imagine a world without a car. In some ways,

our life depended on cars. You can move around freely because you can decide a

place you want to visit or you want to go. You do not waste time waiting for

buses and depending on time tables. But car is not in good condition always, it

may be damaged and need to be repaired.

When it comes to repairing a car and finding a mechanic that can be

trusted and make a person comfortable about repairing their car is a job in itself

and stressful one at that. The idea that they entrusting their families safety with

these mechanics is a hard thing to do because the unknown is never comforting.

Car owners are looking for a trustworthy person who will talk to them, and let

them know they are not getting ripped off, leaving them with a sense of relief.

Few things can be as frustrating as taking a car in for service. It’s a time

consuming process that often requires the owner to make cumbersome alternative

transportation arrangements while the work is being done.

Research shows there are more than 115,000 auto repair and service shops

nationwide, each fixing an average of 55 cars per week. Thus, there is a growing

need for those who can make the process as smooth and painless as possible. Car

Concierges are able to pick up your car for you, take it for service and return it
2

when it is finished. For those who cannot afford to be without a car while vehicle

is service, the concierge also can provide a rental car.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

Different aspects of feasibility study must not be taken for granted to

determine its viability. The study of “Car Concierge” business is restricted to

Tanauan City and will be based on management, marketing, technical, socio-

economic and financial aspect of business. Students will be covered as a part of

the respondents. The product will be disseminated through direct selling.

The proponent conducted the study from January 2017- April 2017. The

range of the study is engaged in car repair and rental. Tanauan population is the

target market of proposed business based on the demand of different household.

This study aims to project the profitability of the operation starting from the first

year up to the fifth year. This study covers 399 respondents based on the

population of Tanauan City that will be used in obtaining data from the survey.

RELATED LITERATURE

Based on Wikipedia, a car is a wheeled, self-powered motor vehicle used

for transportation and a product of the automotive industry. Most definitions of

the term specify that cars are designed to run primarily on roads, to have seating

for one to eight people, to typically have four wheels with tires, and to be

constructed principally for the transport of people rather than goods. The year

1886 is regarded as the birth year of the modern car. Cars did not become widely

available until the early 20th century. Cars were rapidly adopted in the United

States of America, where they replaced animal-drawn carriages and carts, but

took much longer to be accepted in Western Europe and other parts of the world.
8

A car is a road vehicle used to carry passengers. Cars usually have four

wheels and an internal combustion engine. Another name is automobile from

Greek “auto” and French “mobile”. This name means “self-moving”, as cars do

not need horses or other external sources of power to move. During the 20 th

century millions of cars were made in most years.

Based on MegaEssay.com,   the responsibilities and duties commonly

associated with auto body and related repairs may include: fixing bent bodies,

remove dents, and replace parts which are severely damaged. Different vehicles

from different manufacturers may present different problems, because of the way

they were brought together. The repairer usually works on all kinds of vehicles

but tends to work on small cars and trucks. As a repairer one must come up with

different ideas to troubleshoot certain problems. The future outlook for

automotive body repair is expected to increase because as the number of motor

vehicles increase, so do automobile accidents. As the population grows so do the

people who drive automobiles. Although the repair industry is not impacted much

by economic conditions, so a lot of people are rarely laid off.

Based on Wikipedia, a car rental, hire car, or car hire agency is a company

that rents automobiles for short periods of time, generally ranging from a few

hours to a few weeks. It is often organized with numerous local branches (which

allow a user to return a vehicle to a different location), and primarily located near

airports or busy city areas and often complemented by a website allowing online

reservations. Car rental agencies primarily serve people who require a temporary

vehicle, for example those who do not own their own car, travelers who are out of
9

town, or owners of damaged or destroyed vehicles who are awaiting repair or

insurance compensation. Car rental agencies may also serve the self-moving

industry needs, by renting vans or trucks, and in certain markets other types of

vehicles such as motorcycles or scooters may also be offered. Alongside the basic

rental of a vehicle, car rental agencies typically also offer extra products such as

insurance, global positioning system (GPS) navigation systems, entertainment

systems, mobile phones, and portable wifi and child safety seats.

Most car rental offices offer a range of vehicle sizes to suit a variety of

budgets and space requirements and some additionally offer specialized vehicles

to suit its location such as convertibles, prestige models, hybrid/electric vehicles,

or SUVs and passenger vans. At major airports or in larger cities, some

independent car rental agencies offer high-end vehicles for rent.

METHODOLOGY

Methodology is the systematic, theoretical analysis of the methods applied

to a field of study. It comprises the theoretical analysis of the body of methods

and principles associated with a branch of knowledge. A methodology offers the

theoretical underpinning for understanding which method, set of methods, or best

practices can be applied to specific case, for example, to calculate a specific

result.

The methodology is the general research strategy that outlines the way in

which research is to be undertaken and among other things, identifies the methods

to be used in it. These methods described in methodology, define the means or

10

modes of the data collection or sometimes, how a specific result is to be

calculated. Methodology does not define specific methods, even though much

attention is given to the nature and kinds of processes to be followed in a

particular procedure or to attain an objective.

Methodology refers to a discussion of the underlying reasoning why

particular methods were used. This discussion includes describing the theoretical

concept that inform the choice of methods to be applied, placing the choice of

methods within the more general nature of academic work and reviewing its

relevance to examining the research problem. The discussion also includes a

thought review of the literature about methods other scholars have used to study

the topic.

RESEARCH DESIGN

The research design refers to the overall strategy that you choose to

integrate the different components of the study in a coherent and logical way,

thereby, ensuring you will effectively address the research problem. It is a

framework or blueprint for conducting the marketing research project. It details

the procedures necessary for obtaining the information needed to structure or

solve marketing research problems. In simple words it is the general plan of how

you will go about your research.

The proponents used the descriptive type of research to gathered facts and

data in order to answer relevant questions and evaluate outcomes. Descriptive

research is conclusive in nature, as opposed to exploratory. This means that

11

descriptive research gathers quantifiable information that can be used for

statistical inference on your target audience through data analysis. Descriptive

research is “aimed at casting light on current issues or problems through a process

of data collection that enables them to describe the situation more completely than

was possible without employing this method”. An important distinctive trait of

descriptive research compared to alternative types of studies relates to the fact that

while descriptive research can employ a number of variables, only one variable is

required to conduct a descriptive study. Three main purposes of descriptive

studies can be explained as describing, explaining and validating research

findings.

The descriptive type of research suit the study for it provides current data to

support the study. This method is designed to depict the participants in an

accurate way. It will also reveal problems that might be encountered so that

remedial measures may be instituted.

RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY

The proponent choose the residence of Tanauan City as the subject of the

study. Questionnaires will be distributed by the proponents to gather data. The

respondents who have the capability to avail the service are the target market of

the proponents. There are chosen as the subject of the research because of their

nearness to the place where the shop will be established.

12

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

First, the proponents get the total number of household population to the

office of the City Planning and Development. After the determination of the total

target population, the proponents computed the sample size to be used in survey.

The Slovin`s Formula was used by the proponents to determine the

number of questionnaires that were distributed to the target market to ensure that

the individual customers are adequately represented in sample.

The data for this research were collected using a survey questionnaire. The

survey was created using suitable questions modified from related research and

individual questions formed by the researcher. The survey was comprised of 10

questions, which were related to the participant’s perception regarding car service.

In the questionnaire. After the teacher validated the questionnaire, these were

distributed to the residents of Tanauan City. The researchers assured

confidentiality of their survey sheets. The researchers also understood that

people’s consciousness may also affect their honesty and effectiveness in

answering the survey, and so, the researchers gave people the option of being

anonymous. Respondents were given time to respond and then the researchers

collected the surveys.

After the survey, the information gathered was tallied for the purpose of

computing the projected demand and supply.

13

DATA GATHERING INSTRUMENT

The proponent will be using data gathering instrument in the form of

questionnaire to gather necessary details needed in the study. Questionnaire is set

of printed or written question with a choice of answer for the purpose of gathering

information from respondents. It is the easier data gathering instrument because it

gather information on the potential customer and competitors. The questionnaires

were constructed by the proponents.

STATISTICAL TREATMENT OF DATA

The proponents used solving Formula to come up with sampling unit

in order to determine the number of respondents needed which is based from the

estimate number of population of the Tanauan City for the year 2016.

MARKET STUDY

Market is one of the many varieties of systems, institutions, procedures,

social relations and infrastructures where by parties engage in exchange. It can be

said that a market is the process by which the prices of goods and services are

established. Market study is an essential part of every feasibility study. Market

study is a forecast of the demand for a certain types of real estate project in the

future which includes an estimate of the square footage that would be absorbed

and the rents that could be charged. Marketing is satisfying needs and wants

through an exchange process. It is a form of communication between you and

your customers with the goal of selling your product or service to them.

Communicating the value of your product or service is a key aspect of marketing.

This chapter focuses on the determination of demand and supply to know

the available percentage of the target market to be penetrated by the business. It

discussed also the strategic marketing factor that will drive by the partnership, not

only to meet but to give the highest satisfaction to the target market and increase

perspective buyer. It discussed on how the supply of goods will meet the demand

of the consumers. This includes the instrument, tools, methods, and procedures

used in demand and supply analysis. It also discusses the company`s internal

strength and weakness, and its external opportunities and threats.

15

OBJECTIVES

The main purpose of the study relation with the market is to determine the

proposed product will becoming marketable.

Specifically it aims:

1. To determine the target market of the business.

2. To determine the appropriate marketing strategies that will bring profit.

3. To design appropriate pricing strategy for the proposed product.

4. To determine the marketability of the business in our chosen location.

5. To determine the possible competitors on this kind of business.

NAME OF THE BUSINESS

The business name is the first image that a business projects.  It is what

customers will remember (good or bad) about your business that will either draw

them to it or send them to a competitors’ business.

The right name can make your company the talk of the town especially

when it is unique. The proponents decided to name their proposed business, “Car

Concierge” originated the idea of providing a good quality service of repairing

cars and offering a rental one for those who can’t afford to be without a car.
16

ANALYSIS OF THE MARKET

Market analysis is a study of the dynamism of the market in a specific

industry. Marketing analysis is basically a business plan that presents information

regarding the market in which you are operating in. It deals with various factors.

Through all of these analysis, the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats

(SWOT) of a company can be identified. It is also known as a document

investigation of a market that is used to inform a firm`s planning activities,

particularly around decisions of inventory, purchase, work force

expansion/contraction, facility expansion, purchases of capital equipment,

promotional activities and many other aspects of a company.

In the study, the target market of the propose service are those who are

looking for car repair and rental shop that residing in the barangays of Tanauan

that are already earning for a living.

BUSINESS LOCATION

The proposed business location is at Tanauan City near different

establishment like INC and Mt. Albo. It is located to a commercial area that is

very accessible. This location composes of WalterMart and 7-Eleven.

SWOT ANALYSIS

SWOT analysis is an acronym for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities,

and threats and is a structured planning method that evaluates those four elements

17

of a project or business venture. A SWOT analysis can be carried out for a

company, product, place, industry, or person. It involves specifying the objective

of the business venture or project and identifying the internal and external factors

that are favorable and unfavorable to achieve that objective.

STRENGTHS

Strengths are the characteristics of the business that give an advantage

over others. Strengths are those features of the business which allow you to

operate more effectively than your competitors. For example, a strength could be

your specialist technical knowledge. You need to consider your strengths from

your own point of view and from that of your customers’ and clients’. You must

be realistic and honest. Strengths of Car Concierge were as follows:

 Accessibility of Location

The chosen location is a strength for the business because it is nearby

different establishments like walker, side walk and etc. It is a place

where a crowd is anticipated so the customers would be aware of the

near established business.

 New innovation of car service

Car concierge give rise to a new and more innovative car repair

service, though providing a good quality car repair and car rental in

one.

WEAKNESSES

Weaknesses are areas capable of improvement. Weaknesses are the

characteristics that place the team at a disadvantage relative to others. Weaknesses

18

are something a company lacks or does poorly in comparison to others.

Weaknesses of Car Concierge were as follows:

 New in the Industry

It is hard for the company to have an easy access to the customers wants

since it is new entrant in the business industry.

 High Liability

The risk involve with unsupervised work are fairly high because the

machinery used is potentially dangerous if not used properly. Injury is

highly possible due to weight and size of the car and parts as well as

experience differences of the customer.

 Lack of Knowledge

Limited knowledge of the owners in supervising a business. The owners

may know some aspects of operating a business but still they lack of

experience in managing a business.

OPPORTUNITIES

Opportunities are elements in the environment that the business or project

could exploit to its advantage. Opportunities contribute in the company on

achieving goals. Opportunities of Car Concierge were as follows:

 May appeal to a wide range of client

-the self-service aspect of our business along with the education aspect we

will be able to attract enthusiasts as well as newbies. This means that we

will not be restricted to customer that are already well educated about how
19

to service their car but also newcomers who wish to learn more about their

cars.

 Expansion of the business

The progress in the business will provide a chance to the firm to expand its

operation.

THREATS

Threats are the unwanted situations that may bump down the firm`s

position in the market. Threats represent the negative aspects of the company`s

external environment. (Abrenica, et al., 2015)

 Bad economy

A bad economy can hurt a concierge services business by decreasing the

number of potential customers.

 Direct Competitors

Competition can be intense, especially if several direct competitors are

about the same size. Some tactics are more effective than others. However,

precutting for example, is easy for rivals to see and mimic, and result in no

real advantage for anyone. Differentiating from the competition on

qualitative levels, like customer service for example, can have a more

lasting effect.

SERVICES
20

Services is a commercial enterprise that provides work performed in an

expert manner by individual or team for the benefits of its customers. It is a

general term that describes work that supports a business but does not produce a

tangible commodity. It is an activity where an immaterial exchange of value

occurs.

The car concierge decide to create automobile shop that repair and provide

rental car. It is new for the market to have a car repair shops that also offer a

rental car, usually it`s just only repair. So it is good opportunity for the proponent

to provide two in one services in order to give the customer an easier way to fix

their car without leaving their house.

BRAND NAME

The brand name itself carries more weight than you might think and can

mark the difference between a brand that gains fraction and one that falls flat. The

proponents become very careful in making the brand name for the proposed

business because this will greatly affect the business image in the market. The

proponents come up with the Brand Name “CAR CONCIERGE”. The proponents

choose this brand because of the idea that the customers car will be in good hand

with a unique car service.

USES OF THE SERVICES

The main purpose of the business is to meet the demand for car repair

service at affordable process for the client within the Tanauan City premises. This
21

will provide the need of those people who wish to have a rental car while their car

is under repair.

USERS OF THE BUSINESS

The users of proposed service business have a wide range of target market

with different age, gender and life status. It includes all customers who are

looking for car repair and rental shop that brings benefits for the users.

Demand

Demand is an economic principle that describes a consumer’s desire and

willingness to pay a price for a specific good or service. Holding all other factors

constant an increase in the price of a good or service will decrease demand and

vice versa. Demand depends on the price of the commodity and refers to how

much of a product or service is desired by buyers.

Historical Demand

To clearly evaluate the market for the proposed business, it is essential to

study its historical demand. Historical demand is the actual number of repaired

car in the past years. Since “Car Concierge” that offers two in one service do not

subsist yet in the market, the proponents determine first the historical demand of

service related to it. The propose business projected demand will be based on the

historical demand of related business. This portion is important because this will

determine the projected demand of the proposed service.

Table 2.1
Historical Demand

2016 100 160 440 49 7, 861, 560

Past demand is computed by getting the target population for the year

2012-2016 multiplied by market acceptability which is obtained by getting the

percentage of respondents who have a car which is 100% and multiplied to the

frequency of agreement of the times the car get fixed which is 49. It increases

annually based on the annual growth of population of 2.68%.

Projected Demand

The historical demand for the service was used to obtain the future

demand for the service. Historical demands serve the pattern for forecasting.

The following table presents the expected demand for the service that will

be offered by Car Concierge.

Table 2.2
Projected Demand

Market Target Frequency of Projected

2020 100 178 342 49 8, 738, 758
2021 100 183, 121 49 8, 972, 929
23

The annual increased of demand for the years 2017-2021 is based on

annual growth rate from 2012-2014 by 2.68%. The annual projected demand was

obtained by multiplying the market acceptability which 100% to target population

and to the frequency of agreement which is 49.

Supply

Supply is a fundamental economic concept that describes the total amount

of a specific good or service that is available by the consumers. Supply can relate

to the amount available at a specific price or the amount available across a range

of prices if displayed on a graph. This relates closely to the demand for a good or

service at a specific price; all else being equal, the supply provided by producers

will rise if the price rises because all firms look to maximize profits.

(Investopedia, 2011)

In this study, it is important to know the historical supply and projected

supply because it directly affects the firm’s production planning and scheduling.

This will be determined using the information collected from the retailer’s survey

questionnaire.

Historical Supply

The historical supply of the service will be determine through the

information that will be obtain from the interviews and observation conducted to

the different retailers of in Tanauan City, Batangas.

2016 95 160 440 49 7, 468, 482

It was multiplied by the percentage of purchases from the result of the

survey which is 95% to the target market population and to the frequency of

agreement. The increase of supply was also based in the growth rate population.

Projected Supply

Same as in the projected demand, projected supply will also be based on

the number of the service rendered from the existing repair and rental shop.

Determining the projected supply is necessary to come up with market share of

the service. The table below shows the projected supply of related service.

Table 2.4

2021 95 183, 121 89 8, 524, 283
25

It was obtained by multiplying of percentage of purchase to the target

population with 2.68 growth rate to the frequency of agreement.

Demand and Supply Analysis

After the proponents had been identified the supply and demand of the

service in the target market, there is an observance of difference between the

demand and supply. The difference between the demand and supply for the

service is called “market gap” which is an important factor in determining the

feasibility of the proposed product. The difference between the two presents the

unsatisfied customers.

The table below shows the amount of market gap based on the projection

made.

Table 2.5
Demand and Supply Analysis

2021 8, 972, 929 8, 524, 283 448, 646

The table above shows the gap between the quantity demanded and the

quality supplied. The gap represents the unsatisfied current market brought about
26

by different factors and is due to the high difference between the market

acceptability and the total amount of service rendered or percentage of service.

MARKET GAP = PROJECTED DEMAND-PROJECTED SUPPLY

The same method was used in obtaining the market gap for the years

2017-2021.

MARKETING PROGRAM

PRODUCT OR SERVICES FEATURE (LOGO, TRADEMARK, SLOGAN)

Logo

Logo is a graphic mark, emblem or symbol commonly used by

commercial enterprises, organizations and even individuals to aid and promote

instant public recognition. Logo is a critical aspect of business marketing. As the

market. For this reason, a well-designed logo is an essential part of any company's

overall marketing strategy.

27

Figure 2.1
Feature Logo

Based on the logo design, the proponents put an image of a car that

connotes the car being repaired by the “CAR CONCIERGE” with the color of

orange that mostly represents color of adventure which inspires and creates

enthusiasm. It is optimistic and sociable and suggests affordability. The hand of

concierge holding cloche means that the shop will take good care of the car. The

color of black represents elegance, luxury and sophistication-thy. It is used for

selling and marketing to youth audiences. The color of silver represents a

Pricing Strategy

Price is the quantity if payment or compensation given by one party to

another in return for goods or services. A value that will purchase a finite

quantity, weight or other measure of a good or service. A business can use variety

of pricing strategies when selling a product or service. The price can be set to

maximize profitability for each unit sold or from the market overall. It can be

used to defend an existing market from new entrants, to increase market share

within a market or to enter a new market.

Pricing is one of the most vital and highly demanded component within

the theory of marketing mix. It helps consumers to have an image of the standards

the firm has to offer through their products, creating firms to have an exceptional

reputation in the market. The firm's decision on the price of the product and the

pricing strategy impacts the consumer's decision on whether or not to purchase

30

the product. When firms are deciding to consider applying any type of pricing

strategy they must be aware of the following reasons in order to make an

appropriate choice which will benefit their business. The competition within the

market today is extremely high, for this reason, businesses must be attentive to

their opponent's actions in order to have the comparative advantage in the market.

The technology of internet usage has increased and developed dramatically

therefore, price comparisons can be done by customers through online access.

Consumers are very selective regarding the purchases they make due to their

knowledge of the monetary value. Firms must be mindful of these factor and price

their products accordingly.

In addition, people are looking a fair and reasonable price service. The

proponents will going to use Penetration Strategies as pricing strategy that aims to

attract client by offering lower price services. While many new companies use

this technique to draw attention away from their competition, penetration pricing

does tend to result in an initial loss of income for the business. Over time,

however, the increase in awareness can drive profits and help small businesses to

stand out from the crowd. In the long run, after sufficiently penetrating a market,

companies often wind up raising their prices to better reflect the state of their

position within the market.

Channel Distribution

A distribution channel is a chain of businesses or intermediaries through

which a good or service passes until it reaches the end consumer. It can include

wholesalers, retailers, distributors and even the internet itself. Channels are
31

broken into direct and indirect forms, with a "direct" channel allowing the

consumer to buy the good from the manufacturer, and an "indirect" channel

allowing the consumer to buy the good from a wholesaler or retailer.

Promotion Strategy

Promotion refers to raising customer awareness of a product or brand,

generating sales, and creating brand loyalty. It is one of the four basic elements of

the market mix, which includes the four P's: price, product, promotion, and place.

(Wikipedia.org) An effective promotional strategy will bring customers/ clients to

the firm. There have been different ways to promote a product in person or with

different media. Both person and media can be either physically real or virtual

/electronic.
32

The proponents used different kind of promotion strategies such as Digital

Media, leaflets, flyers and especially word of mouth. This method is used to

increase the sales of a given product. Digital media, which includes

Internet, social networking and social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,

Tumblr, YouTube and etc.) , is a modern way for brands to interact with

consumers as it releases news, information and advertising from the technological

limits of print and broadcast infrastructures. Flyers are the perfect way to stand

out from the crowd when promoting your business. Word of mouth or viva voce,

is the passing of information from person to person by oral communication, which

could be as simple as telling someone the time of day. Storytelling is a common

form of word-of-mouth communication where one person tells others a story

about a real event or something made up.

Generalization

Today it is nearly impossible to efficiently sell a product or services

without having conducted market research. This part of study determine the

capacity of the service business to penetrate in the market. This also tackles the

target market, the SWOT analysis and marketing strategies.

In this part of study, the target market had been defined. The enterprise

target market was the residence of Tanauan City. Expansion of the said firm to

another location will happen after earning enough funds for the said expenses.
33

The SWOT analysis enumerated the strengths like accessibility of location

and innovation of service, weaknesses such as new in the industry, high liability

and lack of knowledge, opportunities like population growth, and expansion of

the business and may appeal to a wide range of client and threats of the business

like bad economy and direct competitors. It is important for the firms to analyze

the firm’s internal and external environment because it can be used as their

advantage against other firms.

give additional compensation to employee during holiday season.

Tardiness and Absenteeism

Tardiness is the habit of being late or delaying arrival. Being late as a form

of misconduct may be formally punishable in various arrangement such as

workplace, school, etc. Tardiness may be due to indifferences in management

leadership, laxity in enforcing rules or lack of interest by the employee in his

job.

Absenteeism is a habitual pattern of absence from a duty or obligation.

Traditionally, absenteeism has been viewed as an indicator of poor individual

performance, as well as a breach of an implicit contract between employee and

64

employer. It was seen as a management problem, and framed economic or

quasi-economic terms. According to Nelson and Quick people who are

dissatisfied with their jobs are absent more frequently. In this study both

tardiness and absenteeism considered as a management problem that can cause

to poor and inefficient operation.

When the workers have a maximum of 3 lates in 1 month the Hr will give

the employee a written warning and after that if they have a 3 lates again on the

next month it’ll be verbal warning and for the next month when they commit

another 3 lates they’ll be suspended for 2 days, In terms of absences when the

employee commit 2 absences in a row and he/she do not have a valid reason it

will be considered as AWOL or absent without official live. The employee and

the high officials have a maximum of 5 absences in a month, when they reach it

they will be suspended for 3 days.

Code of Conduct

A code of conduct is a set of rules outlining the social norms and rules and

responsibilities or proper practice for an individual party or organization.

A code of conduct is published and disseminated to its employees, and to

existing and potential stakeholders such as members of the board of directors,

customers, partners, vendors, suppliers, potential employees and general public.

The code of conduct is both an internal commitment to a standard of behavior and

beliefs and a public declaration of the organization’s position on a set of

standards, values, principles and beliefs. The code of conduct is the heart and soul

of a company.
65

Furthermore, a common code of conduct is written for employees of a

company, which protects the business and informs the employees of the

company's expectations. It is ideal for even the smallest of companies to form a

document containing important information on expectations for employees. The

document does not need to be complex or have elaborate policies, but the file

needs a simple basis of what the company expects from each employee.

Committing any of the following infraction will be sufficient for

disciplinary action ranging from warning to instant dismissal depending upon the

seriousness of the offense in the judgment of the management.

1. Pilferage if the enterprise property of theft another employee’s effect.

2. Wilful refusal of an employment to carry out any reasonable order or

instruction given by his superior or to perform the work designated to him.

3. Intentional destruction, alteration, abuse or waste of the enterprise’s property,

facilities, records or equipment.

4. Displaying bad manners such as the use of abusive or insulting language or

awful contempt of authority.

5. Habitual tardiness or frequent absences from work without reasonable

causes.

6. Leaving working place or otherwise stopping work before “coffee break’ or

meal periods or before quitting time.

7. Sleeping or loitering while on duty.

Regular Holidays
66

A holiday is a day set aside by custom or by law on which normal

activities, especially business or work, are suspended or reduced. Generally,

holidays are intended to allow individuals to celebrate or commemorate an event

or tradition of cultural or religious significance. Holidays may be designated by

governments, religious institutions, or other groups or organizations. The degree

to which normal activities are reduced by a holiday may depend on local laws,

customs, the type of job being held or even personal choices.

The concept of holidays often originated in connection with religious

observances. The intention of a holiday was typically to allow individuals to tend

to religious duties associated with important dates on the calendar. In most

modern societies, however, holidays serve as much of a recreational function as

any other weekend days or activities.

In many societies there are important distinctions between holidays

designated by governments and holidays designated by religious institutions. For

example, in many predominantly Christian nations, government-designed

holidays may center on Christian holidays, though non-Christians may instead

observe religious holidays associated with their faith. In some cases, a holiday

may only be nominally observed. For example, many Jews in the Americas and

Europe treat the relatively minor Jewish holiday of Hanukkah as a "working

holiday", changing very little of their daily routines for this day.

The word holiday has differing connotations in different regions. In

the United States the word is used exclusively to refer to the nationally,

religiously or culturally observed day(s) of rest or celebration, or the events

67

themselves, whereas in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth nations,

the word may refer to the period of time where leave from one’s duties has been

agreed, and is used as a synonym to the US preferred vacation. This time is

usually set aside for rest, travel and/or the participation in recreational activities,

with entire industries targeted to coincide or enhance these experiences. The days

of leave may not coincide with any specific customs or laws. Employers and

educational institutes may designate ‘holidays’ themselves which may or may not

overlap nationally or culturally relevant dates, which again comes under this

connotation, but it is the first implication detailed that this article is concerned

with.

Compensation Scheme

Compensation is a systematic approach to providing monetary value to

employees in exchange for work performed. It is a tool used by management for

a variety of purposes to further the existence of the company. It may be adjusted

according to the business needs, goals and available resources.

Any business establishment must have a just compensation regarding to do

the nature of the job of employees in order to encourage them to do their jobs

and responsibilities effectively. In connection with that, the General Manager

will receive 13,500 per month while the Assistant Manager will receive 13, 000

per month as per agreement for both parties. The worker’s compensation will be

given every 15th and 30th of the month. All employees will receive 13th month

pay.
