1. STARTING AUXILIARY DIESEL ENGINE GENERATOR AND


CONNECTING IT TO HVSWBD FROM COLDSHIP

1.1 Starting Emergency Diesel Oil Air Driven Pump and Preparing
GE MDO Pump
Click the SYS tab then click Fuel Oil System ► GE FO Service System
1. Open the AC021F (Air Inlet) Valve (indication: green)
2. Confirm that the EMCY DO Air Driven Pump is now running (indication: brown)
3. Open the inlet and outlet valves in preparation for the Generators’ MDO Pump
*Since the solenoid valve will automatically close as soon as the power comes back on the Main
Switchboard, it is a good choice to open the bypass air inlet valve (A) for the Emergency Air
Driven DO Pump so that you can have enough time to open the electric MDO pump.

1.3 Starting Pre-lubrication Oil Pump and Jacket Water Preheater
Pump for Diesel Generator No. 1
Click the ER3 tab then click No. 1,2 GE Prelub & Preheat Starter Panels

At the No. 1 PRELUB. OIL PUMP STARTER and No. 1 JACKET WATER PREHEATER
Panels:

1. Set the Mode Switch to “MANU” (manual).


2. Click “START/RUN” push button.
3. Set the Mode Switch to “AUTO”

1.5.3 Change-over between GE Emergency Diesel Oil Air Driven Pump to GE MDO
Pump

Click the SYS tab then click Fuel Oil System ► GE FO Service System

1. Click GE MDO Pump then click the “Push Button Box”,


2. On the push button box press the START Push button and confirm that the pump is
running when the Run Pilot Lamp lights up.
3. Close the Bypass air inlet valve for the Emergency Air Driven DO Pump.

1.5.4 Set the control mode of Diesel Generator 1 to ICMS


Click the MSB tab then click MV MSB ► MG No.1, MG No. 2 Upper Panel

Under the Main Diesel Generator Panel No. 1 (3800 kW 6.6 kV):
1. Set the diesel engine generator control mode switch knob to ICMS

1.6 ICMS – Coupling of Diesel Generator to Bus


1.6.1 Navigating the ICMS
Click the ICMS tab

Navigate to the Mimics window and click the “Power Generating” folder

Once clicked, different mimic windows for Power Generation will appear. Scroll down
until you see “Power Plant Overview” mimic then click it to view.

1.6.2 Connecting Diesel Generator No. 1


To connect:

1. Click the diesel generator icon, then

2. Click connect.

The system will automatically synchronize the incoming diesel generator to the bus and
close the necessary circuit breakers.

Please note that before you can connect/start the diesel generators (DG) in this mimic, make
sure that you have removed the blocking reset and set the mode of operation to remote in their
corresponding local operating panels. You can only remove the blocking reset if you have set
the control of the Water Jacket Preheater and PRELUB. Oil Pump Starter to REMOTE. Also,
one indication that you can connect the DG is the “DG READY” mark beside the generator.

1. Set the “Remote Mode Select” switch to LOCAL

3. Set the “Remote Mode Select” switch to REMOTE (ICMS)

2.2 Stopping GE MDO Pump


A. Local Side
Click the SYS tab then click Fuel Oil System ► GE FO Service System

1. Click GE MDO Pump then click the “push button box”,


2. On the push button box press the STOP Push button and confirm that the pump
is running when the Run Pilot Lamp dims.

6. BOILER SYSTEM STARTUP OPERATION

6.1 Start-up Operation of Boiler System using Boiler Monitoring


System
• Check if one Generator is Running and Connected to Bus
• Check the breakers related to boiler system if switched ON

6.1.1 Preparing the Auxiliary Boiler: Starting the Auxiliary Feed Water Pump 1
Click BMCS tab, on this tab click the Pump Overview

1. To Start Auxiliary Boiler Feed Water Pump 1, click the AUX Boiler Feed Water Pump
1 nameplate.
2. Then on the window opened, Click the “Start” check box,
3. Then click “OK”; and
4. Close the window.

6.1.2 Setting the Auxiliary Boiler Feed Water Pump 2 to Stand-by Mode
On the same page (Boiler Monitoring and Control System Pump Overview).

1. To set the Auxiliary Boiler Feed Water Pump 2 to stand-by mode, click the
Feed Water Pump 2 nameplate.
2. Then on the window opened, Click the Stand-by check box,
3. Then click “OK”; and
4. Close the window.

6.1.3 Starting the Auxiliary Boiler MDO Supply Pump 1


On the same page (Boiler Monitoring and Control System Pump Overview).

1. To set the Auxiliary Boiler MDO Supply Pump 2 to stand-by mode, click the
MDO Supply Pump 2 nameplate.
2. Then on the window opened, Click the Start check box,
3. Then click “OK”; and
4. Close the window.

MDO Supply Pump 2 nameplate.

6.1.5 Starting the Auxiliary Boiler HFO Booster Pump 1

On the same page (Boiler Monitoring and Control System Pump Overview).

*Only operate this when you are running on HFO

1. To Start Auxiliary Boiler HFO Booster Pump 1, click the No1 Aux Boiler HFO Booster
Pump 1 nameplate.
2. Then on the window opened, Click the Start check box,
3. Then click “OK”; and
4. Close the window.

6.1.6 Setting the Auxiliary Boiler HFO Booster Pump 2 to Stand-by

*Only operate this when you are running on HFO

1. To set the Auxiliary Boiler HFO Booster Pump 2, click the No1 Aux Boiler HFO Booster
Pump 2 nameplate.
2. Then on the window opened, Click the Stand-by check box,
3. Then click “OK”; and
4. Close the window.

6.1.7 Resetting the Alarm of the Boiler System in the Local Panel
Click ER1 tab then click Boiler Control Panel

6.2 Manually Starting the Boiler System in BMCS


Click BMCS tab

1. To Start the Boiler System manually, click “Boiler” tab.


2. On the window opened, click the “Manual” checkbox.
3. Click “OK” button.
4. Click “Manual start”; then
5. Click “OK” again.
6. Set the control to AUTO when the boiler is 0.5 bar lower than the working pressure of the
boiler.

6.3 Starting Boiler System in Local Operating Panel (LOP)


• Check if one Generator is Running and Connected to Bus
• On LV – GSP No. 1/1:
Check ff. breakers if ON:

• On LV – GSP No. 1/2
Check if the breaker of LT CFW P/p # 3 is ON

• On ER1 – Boiler Control Panel, Check the breakers related to boiler system if switched
ON

Click ER1 tab then click Boiler Control Panel

1. Set the control to “EMCY” (Manual Mode)


2. Start Fuel Oil Pump number 1
3. Start Combustion Air Fan and check the gauge if running.
4. Open the Atomizing Steam Valve or click the button, check the steam atomizing pressure
gauge for pressure build up.
5. Open Oil Valves or click the button.
6. Click Burner Motor Start/Stop to Start Burner Motor.
7. Turn the Air Damper Combustion Air Fan Regulator to 20%
8. Turn the Oil Flow Regulator Valve to 20%
9. Press the IGNITION button to start the ignition, check if the FLAME ON lamp illuminates.
On the BMCS, the status of the boiler should indicate “Ignition”
10. Press the STOP push button to switch OFF the ignition

6.4 Open the Steam Outlet Valve


Click the SYS tab then click Steam Generating System and click Steam, Feed Water
and Condensate System
1. Open Auxiliary Boiler Steam Outlet Main Valve (C2 AUXB).

6.5 Starting Auxiliary Boiler Feed Water Pump in Boiler LOP

Click ER1 tab then click Boiler Control Panel and navigate through the Boiler Local
Control Panel
1. Click CMN CTRL button
2. Click PUMP CTRL button
3. Click Water Pump button
4. Click AUXB FEED PUMP button
5. Press the Mode Button for Feed Water Pump No. 1
6. Set the Mode of Feed Water Pump No. 1 to START
7. Go back and press the Mode Button for Feed Water Pump No. 1
8. Set the Mode of Feed Water Pump No. 2 to STANDBY

6.5.1 Starting the Boiler


On the same display
1. Set the Water Regulator Valve (1W1) to LOCAL then open the valve at 50% (On sys
tab, Steam Generating Systems)
2. Set the Air Damper Fan Regulator to 50%.
3. Set the Oil Flow Regulator to 30%.

4. Press the IGNITION push button to start ignition of the boiler system.
5. Press the Oil Valves push button to open the oil valve.
6. Monitor pressure and water level, adjust regulators according to how much is needed.
7. Set the controls to AUTO.

8. STARTUP OPERATION OF THE MAIN ENGINE

8.1 Starting Air System


(Checking for Starting air system valves and gauges)
Click SYS tab then click Compressed Air System and click Start Air System
1. Check if the Starting Air Supply Valve is open
2. Check if the Control Air Valve is open
3. Check if the Main Starting Valve and Slow Turning Valve is unblocked. 4. Check if Main
Distribution Valve is open

8.3 Starting Cooling Fresh Water Pumps


Click the ICMS tab then click Cool Water System folder and click LT FW Cool System
1. Set No. 1 Cooling Fresh Water Booster Pump to MASTER
2. Set No. 2 Cooling Fresh Water Booster Pump to STANDBY
3. Set No. 1 and No. 3 Low Temperature Cooling Fresh Water Pump to MASTER
4. Set No. 2 Low Temperature Cooling Fresh Water Pump to STANDBY
*Please note that sometimes if you clicked the pumps “Trends” dialog box will appear.
Do not click that, press anywhere the window except the Trends Dialog Box or in the left
side panel.

8.4 Starting Main Engine Lube Oil


A. Starting the Lubricating Oil Pumps for the Main Engine
Click the ICMS tab then click on the Lube Oil System folder and click ME LO Service
System
1. Set the No. 1 Main Lube Oil Pump to MASTER
2. Set the No. 2 Main Lube Oil Pump to STANDBY

8.5 Starting Stern Tube Lubrication Oil and Seal Pump


Click the MSB tab then click LV MSB ► GSP No. 1/2
1. Set the Control Mode for Stern Tube Lubrication Oil and Seal Pumps to LOCAL.
2. Press the Start Push Button of both machineries.
3. Set the Control Mode for Stern Tube Lubrication Oil and Seal Pumps to REMOTE.

8.7 Preheating Fuel Oil, Starting Booster Pump No. 1


(Check valves, start Booster pumps)
Click the SYS tab then click Cooling Water System folder and click ME HT FW Cooling
System
*I think you only need to run ME Jacket Cooling Fresh Water Pumps here and no need for
preheating?? If preheating is needed. We do this first before opening the Lube Oil and Cylinder
Oil Pumps
**Needs confirmation on this for ME engines.

8.8 Slow turning the Main Engine using Turning Gear


1. Go to the ECR Section E and check if the Main Engine is in the Finished With Engine
(FEW) Mode. Check in the MOP and in Engine Manoeuvring System.
2. Go to Systems Diagram, Compressed Air System ► Starting Air System and open
all the cylinder indicator valves.
3. Go to ER4 ► ME Turning Gear. Switch ON the turning gear Main Circuit Breaker.
4. Set the turning gear control switch to LOCAL
5. Engage the Turning Gear
6. Turn the Main Engine one revolution with the turning gear in clockwise rotation / forward.
*In live scenario, check if fluid flows out of any indicator valves.
7. Disengage the turning gear.
8. Switch OFF the turning gear Main Circuit Breaker.

8.9 Air Blowing the Main Engine


Click the ECR tab then click ECR Section E
1. Navigate through the MOP and go to the Engine Status tab of the MOP.
2. Click the STANDBY button on the Engine Manoeuvring System. Notice that the
STANDBY LED indicator is blinking, do not acknowledge it on the bridge until you are
finished preparing the main engine.
3. Engine not ready status will be indicated in the MOP.
4. Wait until the Hydraulic Pressure indicator becomes check or until it reaches 210 bars
(go to Engine Operation tab to see the hydraulic oil pressure).

5. Open the indicator valves of each cylinder in the SYS tab, Compressed Air System ►
Starting Air System

6. Go back to ECR Section E window. In the MOP press Air Run.

7. Then go to ECR Section D and set the Telegraph to Dead Slow.

8. Check that the rpm of the main engine goes up.


9. Also check the main engine starting air pressure goes down.
10. Reset the Telegraph to STOP position to conserve the starting air pressure.
11. Go back to ECR Section E window and press Auto.

8.10 Slow Turning the Main Engine


1. On the ECR tab and go to ECR Section E. In the MOP press Slow Turn

2. Go to ECR Section D. Set the Telegraph lever to Dead Slow. During this process the
cylinder lubrication system will apply/spray lubricant to the piston.

3. Reset the position of the telegraph to the STOP position.

4. Go back to ECR Section E window and press Auto.

8.11 Running the Main Engine in ECR


Make sure that you have done the Air Blowing and Slow Turning of the Main Engine

1. In the ECR Section E, check if the MOP is in AUTO mode.

2. Press Bridge Control in the Engine Manoeuvring System to give the control to Bridge.
3. Go to BCC Section B, press the Bridge Control button to acknowledge the switch of
control.
