Frankenstein Notes

Mary Shelley had a difficult life. Her mother was a famous feminist philosopher who died due to complications from Mary's birth. Her father was also a political philosopher. Mary fell in love with and married poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, though they could not legally marry until after her father died due to differences in social class and religion. Mary gave birth to four children, but only one survived to adulthood. She authored Frankenstein in 1818, though she was initially jealous that her husband received more credit for the book. Mary Shelley died at age 40 due to a brain tumor.
