Mission Area: Provides force tracking, host nation and


civil affairs support, theater air defense, targeting,
psychological operations, C2, logistics, medical and
personnel status. Deployed from theater (EAC) elements
down to the Corps. Army link to the Global Command
and Control System (GCCS).

Tactical Data System


(AFATDS)
Mission Area: Provides command, control and
communications (C3) for the US Army and Marine Corps
cannon, rockets, missiles, mortars, close air support, and
naval surface weapon systems.

¥Horizontal and vertical coordination through exchange of

(AMDW/S)
Mission Area: Provides the commander with the ability to
electronically generate and display weapon and sensor
locations, manipulate map graphics, conduct terrain analysis,
analyze and monitor missions in near-real time.

Major Capabilities:

¥Defense Planning & Analysis, supports the development of


ADA missions, distributes and merges missions between
echelons

¥Notifies other BFAs of potential enemy air strikes and TBM


launch point and impact

¥Displays air control orders, current fire unit status, alert


posture, missile expenditure, and personnel ready for duty for
Air Battle Management

¥ Sensor-to-Shooter early warning and cueing provides audible


& visual alert of enemy aircraft, allows fire units to slew to cue
on the highest threat aircraft in their sector

Control System
(CSSCS)
Mission Area: Battlefield decision support and situation
awareness for planning and controlling the logistics support of
combat operations. CSSCS provides material and personnel
status of units and identifies logistical capability to resupply
units for subsequent combat operations.

Major Capabilities:

¥ Resource Status Summaries display current logistics


information by class of supply, item, or unit as color coded
charts or detailed tabular reports
¥ Course of Action Analysis as deliberate or ÒquickÓ analysis,
uses either current or planned task organization based upon
approved planning factors
¥ Unit Task Organization tracks task organization to company
level, provides a structure for resource tracking
¥ CommanderÕs Tracked Items List (CTIL), a subset of
Baseline Resource Items List (BRIL) which includes those
items of Command Interest and Command Controlled Items
that are tracked by CSSCS

Mission Area: Provides high resolution current and prognostic
meteorological data and weather effects

client to all BFAs for determining and displaying weather
impacts on weapons systems
¥Makes available weather overlays via the MCS Maps and
Overlays clients

Digital Topographic Support System XXI

(DTSS)
Mission Area: Provides automated terrain analysis products
and reproduction in support of terrain visualization, IPB, C2,
and other decision making processes

Primary Locations: DMAIN, Brigade TOCs

Major Capabilities:
¥High speed plotter produces full color, hard copy paper products
¥Large format scanner for importing maps not available in digital
format
¥TEM interface produces digital maps for use on BFACS
¥Terrain analysis models provide a variety of topographic
products

Common Ground Station XXI

(CGS)
Mission Area: Acquire, process, display, and disseminate
data from multiple real-time sensors.

Primary Locations: Corps, DMAIN, DTAC, BDE TOCs

Major Capabilities:
¥ Real-time display of MTI, FTI, SAR, IR imagery, UAV video
imagery, SIGINT, ELINT

¥ Displays are geo-referenced to digital maps

¥ Watchdog areas and AOIs allow automated monitoring of


the battlefield

(BPV)
Mission Area: Animated COA analysis, wargaming, planning,
IPB and rehearsal tool

Primary Locations: DMAIN, BDE TOCs

Major Capabilities:
¥ Animates planned/predicted unit movements
¥ Two and three dimensional representation of terrain, friendly
and enemy unit locations, and planned unit movement scenarios
¥ Receives unit locations and UTOs from MCS, enemy unit
locations from ASAS
