Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year! We are so happy to see everyone!


This is the first of our weekly newsletters which contain important announcements, information regarding our school
(and sometimes CCSD), events, and student recognitions. This newsletter will be provided in paper form (on bright
yellow paper), on our website, on class dojo, and through Parentlink. Please make sure you are reviewing the
newsletter weekly. Some facts about DMC (David M. Cox):
 As of 8/14/23 we have 455 students
 We have 1 vacant teaching classroom (in Art)
 OFFICE Hours are 7:30 am – 4:00 pm
 School Gates open at 8:50 am and close for beginning of the day at 9:00 am
 School Gates are locked at 3:16 pm, any students not picked up by then will be taken up to the front office
 Student’s school day is from 9:05 am – 3:15 pm
 Students can be dropped off and picked up from ANY gate
 Breakfast for students is 8:50 am – 9:00 am in the MP Room
 Campus is open to parents both before and after school for the first week
 We have 3 lunches:
o 11:20-11:40 Kinder and First then their recess from 11:40-11:55
o 11:55-12:15 Second and Third then their recess from 12:15-12:30
o 12:25-12:45 Fourth and Fifth then their recess from 12:45-1:00
 Current 4th and 5th graders should have came home last week with their past year’s SBAC scores (which can
also be found in the assessments section in Infinite Campus)
 Snack Shack opened last Friday, 8/11 and will be open Fridays during lunches – until our current snack run
out all snacks are $1.00. Due to rising prices, once we put a new order in, the snacks will go up to $2.00.
 When picking up your child, please know that we cannot release your child to anyone who is not designated
on the pick-up list. Per CCSD Policy, changes made for pick-up of student must be made in person and not
over the phone. Any arrangements made for pick-up of your child must be made prior to the start of the
school day. Security for our students is a priority at David Cox.
 We will not release students after 3:10 p.m. for early dismissal. If your child needs to miss instruction at
the end of the day for scheduled appointments, please pick them up prior to 3:10 p.m.

Drop Off and Pick Up: Parents, the Henderson Police Department and Clark County School District Police
Department are routinely patrolling our campus. Remember that it is illegal to do a “u-turn” or pass
someone in a school zone. Please follow legal parking procedures when dropping your child off
or picking them up as the police agencies are issuing traffic citations. Only turn RIGHT out of
the front parking lot and DO NOT BLOCK OR DRIVE INTO the bus loading zone. Please do
not use any profanity towards adult volunteers, staff, or other parents during drop-off/pick-
up.
PTA News: Please join our PTA! It is an important organization and helps be the voice for your child at the
state level. It is our goal that every family will join our PTA (Parent Teacher Association). This
organization is a vital asset to our school, as they provide community events, service projects for our
students, and funds to support our educational goals. Membership is only $6.00.
Parents, our PTA needs your help! We are looking for parents to assist and volunteer for…
 The before-school walking/jogging club called “Milers.” We need parents daily to track laps, organize
student mileage, and monitor walkers/joggers (8:45 am – 9:00 am on the field)
The PTA holds monthly meetings in our school cafeteria at 6:00 pm on the second Tuesday of every month. Our
first PTA meeting will be tomorrow August 15th! Join today by scanning the QR code on our website or on the icon

Meet Your Principal: For those of you who are new to our school, I’m Mrs. Imboden, your school
principal. I have enjoyed my last 12 years here at David M. Cox and look forward to a successful year 13! I
am entering into my 28th year with CCSD, 11 of which I taught elementary school and the remaining 16 I
served as an administrator in elementary schools. I am a UNLV graduate with a Bachelor’s of Science in
Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in Instructional Reading Curriculum, and a final Master’s
Degree in School Administration. I also had the privilege of going through the National Board Certification
for Teachers and earned my National Accreditation. I truly enjoy working with students and advocate for what is
best for kids. Besides being in the classrooms as much as possible, you’ll see me outside in the morning and after
school, during lunches, and working with our 5th graders in our Leadership Club. I love being your students’

Meet Your Assistant Principal: My name is Mrs. Andrea Heinlen and I would like to introduce myself
as the Assistant Principal at David Cox Elementary School. I am entering into my fourth year in
administration. I have worked in education for seventeen years, teaching in kindergarten, first, third,
fourth, and fifth grades. For the last three years of my teaching career, I was the Learning Strategist at
John R. Hummel Elementary School. I hold a Bachelor’s and two Master’s degrees and am a CCSD
Professional Development Education instructor. I have truly enjoyed being a teacher and a Learning Strategist to
students of all ages and look forward to another year of being your Assistant Principal.
