Objectives
1. Learning basic principles involved in digital communication and learning
important concepts such as recognition of message signal, carrier pulse signal,
and modulated signal
2. Familiarization of equipment and software “Tie Pie Channel”
3. Understanding basics of hardware including digital communication board,
F.A.C.E.T. based unit, power supply multi-meter, virtual oscilloscope, and generator.
3 WORKFLOW
4 SOFTWARE/HARDWARE USED
• Tie Pie Channel – Software
• Digital communication board - Hardware
• F.A.C.E.T. based unit - Hardware
• Power supply multi-meter - Hardware
• Virtual oscilloscope - Hardware
• Generator - Hardware
8 OBSERVATIONS
• For effective electronic communication, the complete continuous
analog voice music or data signals do not have to be transmitted
• Only transmit periodic amplitude samples of the analog signal.
Samples should be taken at high enough frequency
• Amplitude samples to contain all intelligence in original signal. The
samples to be taken at frequency twice the max message frequency
• Sampling freq in range of 8 to 32K Hz.
• Samples are pulses representing amplitude
• PAM, PWM, PPM represent pulse height, wideth and amplitude.
• PCM, DM binary digital codes represent message amplitude
• PCM signal are 8-bit codes
9 CONCLUSION
The software and hardware are an integral part of
communication systems labs. The software mentioned, TIE PIE, is
vital for completion of communication tasks. The board and
F.A.C.E.T allow all modulation, and other tasks. Oscilloscope,
generator and others support the main tools to complete lab
tasks.
