Magnificent historic buildings

and gardens: from Lake Constance
and the Upper Rhine, to the
Electoral Palatinate and Hohenlohe.

If you want to see Baden-Württemberg at its most beautiful, visit the

many palaces and gardens run by the state heritage agency, Staatliche
Schlösser und Gärten. How about the fairy-tale Renaissance palace at
Weikersheim? Or maybe a perfectly-preserved monastery complex, such
as the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Maulbronn? Or there’s Heidel-
berg’s world-famous ruins, while Ludwigsburg offers a grand Baroque
palace with a special museum just for children. And in Schwetzingen,
you can stroll back through the centuries in the glorious palace gardens.
And there’s much, much more…

We wish all visitors a warm welcome ! We’ve thrown the palace gates
wide open, and whenever you choose to visit, there is always some-
thing to do: special tours, walks with guides in historical costumes,
memorable events, and countless activities for children. What’s more,
our palaces and monasteries create an extra-special backdrop for any
occasion.

Our heritage, your adventure.

REGION 1

PROUD RESIDENCES
OF THE ELECTORAL
PALATINATE
The once-mighty electors of the Palatinate left their mark on this region.
In the steep Neckar Valley, they built first a castle, then a
Renaissance palace grand enough to rival any of the German emperor’s
residences. In the 18 th century, they turned their attention to the
wider Rhine Valley, constructing one of the largest Baroque palaces
and an extraordinarily beautiful summer residence. These three sites –
Heidelberg, Mannheim and Schwetzingen – reveal the rich history of
this region.

MAGNIFICENT SIGHTS
OF THE BADEN REGION
Relive two golden ages in the history of the Baden region: the era of
the Baroque margraves and prince-bishops as well as the stately 19 th
century of the grand dukes. Two highlights from the first period –
the margraves’ palaces in Rastatt and the prince-bishops’ residence
in Bruchsal – flank the city of Karlsruhe. Later, the city became the
cultural center and an elegant seat of the progressive grand dukes, and
is well worth exploring.

ROYAL GRANDEUR

It might be a hotbed of high-tech industry, but the Stuttgart region

dukes of Württemberg left their mark on the region, building splendid
palaces and summer residences, as well as a touching monument to
eternal love, the Sepulchral Chapel for Queen Katharina. To this day,
