Analyst’s Notebook 8.9 contains improved algorithms to provide optimized results when
performing the Minimize Cross-Links layout. This may lead to differences in results
compared to running Minimize Cross-Links layout in previous versions of Analyst's
Notebook.
Support for importing date and time formats that include a time zone offset
When importing date and time information via an import specification and a time zone
offset is explicitly set in the source data (for example, 12/20/11 13:50 +05:00), Analyst’s
Notebook 8.9.1 only supports the import of this type of format when the specified time
zone offset is the offset from UTC (Co-ordinated Universal Time). As such it is no longer
possible to set the ‘Time Zone of Source Data’ option in the ‘Date & Time Format’ page of
an import specification when such a format is being imported and the ‘z’, ‘zz’, ‘zzz’
identifiers are used in the custom format setting. Previous versions of Analyst’s Notebook
would allow the ‘Time Zone of Source Data’ option to be set in these circumstances. This
setting will be ignored when running existing import specifications (that use this setting in
the circumstances described previously) in Analyst’s Notebook 8.9.1.
Unhandled exception when changing columns in the List Links dialog no longer occurs
(#38042)
Reported 8.5.1
After importing data with links, and viewing the results in the List Items dialog, if the
visibility of the column is changed Analyst's Notebook no longer crashes.
Importer is ignoring the time zone assigned on the Date & Time Formats page (#37511)
Reported 8.7.1
The Importer is ignoring the setting of the time zone of the source data set within the Date
& Time Formats page. This can lead to incorrect date and time information being
imported into a chart.
Reported 8.5.1
When importing date and times into an attribute the imported values are being incorrectly
affected by daylight saving hours and time zones. These are being incorrectly applied to
attribute date and time values leading to incorrect date and time information being
imported.
Imported time zone for cards incorrectly takes on the parent chart item time zone setting
(#37408)
Reported 8.7.1
When importing cards into Analyst’s Notebook any time zone setting for the card in the
import specification is being ignored and the time zone setting for the parent chart item is
being used instead. Date and time information is imported correctly but reverting to the
parent chart item time zone can lead to confusion.
Reported 8.7.1
Using the SeriesImport.exe command-line tool to run a Series Import batch file no
longer produces the following error:
Import Data and Conditional Formatting plug-ins fail to load after upgrading (#37482)
Reported 8.7.1
The Import Data and Conditional Formatting plug-ins for Analyst's Notebook do not crash
upon opening after an upgrade from version 8.5 to 8.9.
Expanding an entity that originated in iBase can cause an application crash (#37412)
Reported 8.7.1
Expanding an entity derived from an iBase database can no longer cause the abnormal
termination of Analyst's Notebook.
Reported 8.7.1
Reported 8.7.1
Entries in the filter list for numeric filters now show 'as Histogram' when the functionality is
available, as they did in Analyst's Notebook 8.5.1.
Changing a filter so that its 'as Histogram' state changes does not update the list entry
(Dewis #226)
Reported 8.7.1
When a chart change results in a filter in the New tab changing its status to/from 'as
Histogram', the list is updated to reflect this.
16-bit JPEG images are not handled properly when passed in from the clipboard (#36387)
Reported 8.5.1
For users with the "minimum" graphics capability (16-bit color depth), copying and pasting
images from Internet Explorer directly onto a chart item no longer causes that item to
disappear from view, and the item will be displayed in the Chart Overview window.
Reported 8.5.1
Export to PDF produces output quality equivalent to that displayed on the chart surface.
Reported 8.5.1
The chart background color is no longer included on printed charts if you turn off the
Chart check box in the Borders page of the Page Setup dialog.
Known Limitations
Charts can contain several entities with the same name if they use non-western characters
(#26697)
Reported 6.0.13
If you use non-western characters in entity names then Analyst’s Notebook will incorrectly
allow you to have two identical entity names if one uses an upper case and the other
uses lower case, for example I and i in Turkish.
Reported 6.0.13
If you use Find Text to search for non-western characters (searching for “ý” in Turkish for
example), then only terms matching “ý” will be displayed in the results. This differs to
other Analyst’s Notebook features such as the Search bar where all variants of “ý” (for
example I, ý, i and Ý) are displayed in the results.
Altering AM/PM values in time fields alters the time value itself (#38088)
Reported 8.5.3
If you are working in a Korean locale and change the value from AM to PM (and vice
versa) the millisecond value is unexpectedly reset to .000.
Reported 8.9.1
Pressing the F1 key sometimes does not display context sensitive help.
Importer does not support Z or ZZ specifiers for date and time formats (#38035)
The importer doesn’t support the use of the Z or ZZ specifiers (for short/long time zones)
for date and time formats even though this format can be specified on the "Date & Time
Format" page of the importer wizard.
When an import specification is run using the Z or ZZ specifiers, even if the source data
matches these formats, a warning is displayed stating it does not and can’t continue.
Cards assume the entity or chart time zone when only date or only time is set in the Importer.
(#38040)
Reported 8.7.5
The time zone is set to the entity’s time zone if only a time is set in a card during an
Import.
If the entity has both a date and a time set, or the time zone of the chart is not specified
then the entity doesn't have a time zone.
OLE Items are not compatible with Office 2010 if this was installed after the MS Office
Compatibility pack (#36808)
Reported 8.7.1
If you have OLE items on a chart that were created with MS Office 2007, and Office 2010
is installed, the option to edit and open them remains disabled.
Reported 8.0.1
When you add an AVI file to a chart, Analyst's Notebook no longer displays an image of
the video as it does in Windows XP. The AVI file looks like a JPG without an OLE server,
and right-clicking on the file gives only the Activate Package menu. Activating the
package launches Windows Media Player to play the file. The embedded file is grayed
out, and remains grayed out when the video finishes.
Reported 8.7.1
When deleting a picture from an Event Frame, it does not revert to showing the type icon
(#36295)
Reported 8.5.1
Deleting a picture from an event frame does not switch back to displaying the type icon.
You can switch the type icon back on again by using either the right-click shortcut menu
or the display options in the Item Properties dialog.
The Select Entity Type dialog might take some time to display (#36298)
Reported 8.5.1
When selecting All Entity Types from the drop-down list in the Add Chart Items Task
Pane for the first time, the Select Entity Type dialog takes some time to load and display
the icons.
Some plug-ins fail to load when launching Analyst’s Notebook by opening two charts from the
Desktop (#36133)
Reported 8.5.1
If you select two charts from your Desktop and press the Enter key, Analyst's Notebook is
launched but some Task Pane tabs are missing because several plug-ins fail to load. A
workaround for this is to launch Analyst's Notebook and then open the charts.
Icons in the legend may be incorrect if the chart is saved in Analyst’s Notebook 7 (#36130)
Reported 8.5.1
Icons in the legend of Analyst's Notebook 8 charts may not be displayed correctly if they
have been saved in Analyst's Notebook 7 since they were created. This problem occurs if
the icons used in the legend did not exist in Analyst's Notebook 7. Icons used in the chart
itself are displayed correctly.
Some printers have issues with charts that use the high-quality icon set. If you experience
printing problems, the Compatibility Printing mode may help. Turn on the Use
Compatibility Printing Mode check box in the Printing page of the Options dialog.
Save As Version 6 not available if attribute class names are written in non-western characters
Attribute classes whose names are not written using western characters can cause an
issue when using the Save As Version 6 feature. Analyst's Notebook 8 charts with
attribute classes whose names contain unavailable characters may not be able to be
saved as version 6 charts from a computer with a different language operating system.
For example a Chinese chart that contains attribute class names written in Chinese
characters may not be able to be saved as a version 6 compatible chart on an English
operating system.
Analyst's Notebook is capable of displaying .bmp, .jpeg and .gif OLE objects without
requiring any third-party OLE servers. However, the following limitations still apply:
If your operating system has an application that has taken ownership of .bmp, .jpeg,
or .gif files, and it is not a valid OLE server, the drag and drop from Windows
Explorer may return the error message “Unexpected file format.” If you encounter this
issue, try inserting the image with the Insert OLE Object ► Picture menu, or use the
Edit Item Properties dialog to add a picture to an entity representation.
If an unrecognized file type is dragged onto the chart surface and the “Unexpected file
format.” warning is received, subsequent drag and drop operations to the chart
surface from Windows Explorer may fail. If you encounter this issue, try inserting the
object with the Insert OLE Object ► Picture menu, or use the Edit Item Properties
dialog to add a picture to an entity representation.
Reported 8.0.1
Using Save as Picture ► Complete Chart may fail to create a picture if the chart is very
large, due to insufficient memory.
A workaround for this issue is to save the chart in sections using Save as Picture ►
Current Window, or to save the chart in PDF format using File ► Export to PDF.
Reported 8.0.1
When a user disconnects from the network, but a network printer remains set as the
default printer, it can take between 4 and 5 seconds to move between tabs.
Background chart items ignored when copying results to a new chart and including
linked items (Dewis #61)
Reported 8.0.1
The Copy Results to New Chart function with the Include Linked Items check box
turned on does not include background items when it assembles the chart items to be
copied over to the new chart.
Limitations specific to Microsoft Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008
Analyst's Notebook is fully compatible with Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows
Server 2008. Known issues with Analyst's Notebook operating on Windows Vista,

Not all of the third-party components that are installed and used by Analyst's Notebook
are claimed to be supported by their suppliers on the Windows versions listed above.
Unless stated in the known issues below, the third-party components have not been
shown to cause issues.
Analyst's Notebook files cannot be indexed and searched by the Windows Vista,
Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 search mechanisms (#30999)
Reported: 7.0.7
The content of files created by IBM i2 products cannot currently be indexed and searched
by the search mechanisms in the Windows versions listed above.
Reported: 7.0.1
Some entries in the summary information are not visible on the Windows versions listed
above. The 'Description' and 'Origin' sections are not visible through Explorer.
