The Touchdown Zone (TDZ) is defined as the area extending from

150m (500ft.) to 900m (3000ft.) from the landing threshold, or
the first one third of the landing runway (whichever is less).

Category I
A. A Category I operation is a precision instrument approach and
landing using ILS, MLS or PAR with:
1. a runway visual range (RVR) not less than 550 metres, and
2. a decision height (DH) not lower than 200 feet.

Visual References
A. No pilot may continue a precision approach Cat I below the DH
unless at least one of the following visual references for the
intended runway is distinctly visible to, and identifiable by the pilot:
1. elements of the approach lighting system;
2. the threshold, or its markings, lights or identification lights;
3. the visual glide slope indicator(s);
4. the touchdown zone, zone markings or zone lights; or
5. the runway edge lights.

Category II
A. A category II operation is a precision instrument approach and
landing using ILS or MLS with:
1. a RVR of not less than 300 m, and
2. a Decision Height below 200 ft and not lower than 100 ft

Visual Reference
A. No pilot may continue a precision approach Cat II below the DH
unless following visual references is attained and can be
maintained.

B. The visual reference must contain:

1. a segment of at least 3 consecutive lights being:
a. the centre light of the approach lights, or
b. touchdown zone lights, or
c. runway centre line lights, or
d. runway edge lights, or
e. a combination of these
2. and a lateral element of the ground pattern:
a. an approach lighting crossbar, or
b. the landing threshold, or a barrette of the touchdown
zone lighting
Category III
A. A category III operation is a precision instrument approach and
landing using MLS.
B. Category III is subdivided in category III A and in category III B.
1. Category IIIA approach is a precision instrument approach and
landing with:
a. a Decision Height lower than 100 ft (30 m) and
b. a Runway Visual Range not less than 175 m
2. Category IIIB approach is a precision instrument approach and
landing with:
a. a Decision Height lower than 50 ft (15 m) or no Decision
Height, and
b. a Runway Visual Range less than 175 m but not less than 50
m.
Note: Where the decision height (DH) and runway visual
range (RVR) do not fall within the same Category, the
RVR will determine in which Category the operation
is to be considered.

Visual References
A. For Cat III A operations, and for Cat IIIB operations with fail-passive
flight control systems, a pilot may not continue an approach below
DH unless a visual reference containing at least 3 consecutive lights
being:
1. the centerline of the approach lights, or
2. the touchdown zone lights, or
3. the runway centre line lights, or
4. the runway edge lights, or
5. a combination of these is attained and can be maintained.
B. For Cat III B operations with fail-operational flight control systems
using a DH a pilot may not continue an approach below the DH unless
a visual reference containing at least one centreline light is attained
and can be maintained.
C. For Cat III operations with no DH there is no requirement for visual
contact with the runway prior to touchdown. The permitted RVR is
dependent on the level of aeroplane equipment.
D. A CAT III runway may be assumed to support operations with no
Decision Height unless specifically restricted as published in the AIP
or NOTAM
Take off Segments

1. 35ft – Gear Up
2. Gear Up to Acceleration altitude (most critical due need to meet climb gradient)
3. Accel alt to Clean Up
4. Clean up to 1500
