System Software Installation: 1.1 Note
System Software Installation: 1.1 Note
The imagePASS-E1 System Software CD contains the system software. Use the System Software CD in the
following situations:
- When replacing hard disks
- When upgrading system software
1.1 Note
If the system software is reinstalled, all downloaded files, additional fonts, job logs, and other such files will be
deleted from the hard drive. Be sure to explain this to the user’s administrator and take all necessary measures
such as backups first.
1.3 Preparations
Since the system software installation will clear the setting information, print out the “Configuration Page” first.
1) Press the copier control panel’s “Printer” tab, and then select the “Printer Status/Settings” button.
2) Select “Functions.”
3) Select “Print Pages.”
4) Select “Configuration.”
5) The configuration page showing the imagePASS-E1 setting information will be printed. Save this page for use
after installation.
Shutdown Procedure
The imagePASS-E1 has a shutdown function that protects the hard disk from damage. Be sure to shut the
imagePASS-E1 down before turning its power off.
a) If the copier is in copy mode, press the “Printer” tab.
b) Press the “Printer Status/Settings” button.
c) Verify that the LCD shows “Idle”.
11) Click PDL Downloader’s “Download” button. After the hard disk is formatted, the system installation will
begin. System installation takes approximately 15 minutes.
If the download occurs normally, the item currently being processed will appear on the copier’s LCD, along
with that process’ progress ratio on the status line.
When the “Download” button is clicked and the download is begun, the “Cancel” button will be enabled. If
this button is clicked and the download is cancelled, clicking the Download button again will not transfer the
files normally, and the process will be aborted.
For this reason, once the download has begun, do not cancel the installation before the system software is
installed normally.
If the download is cancelled for some reason, follow the steps in “1.6 System Installation” to redo the
download. Until the system software download completes, the imagePASS-E1 will not function as a PDL
board. Since the copier’s LCD will revert to the copy screen every 2 minutes during the download, press the
“Printer” tab, and select the “Printer Status/Settings” button to verify the progress state on the status line.
1.7 Operation After Download Is Complete
1) Once the download is complete, the message “Installation was successful.” will appear on the LCD. Click
OK. Turn the power of the copier and imagePASS-E1 off.
2) Click the download tool’s “End” button and exit the download tool.
3) After turning the PC’s power off, disconnect the Centronics cable or USB-Parallel cable connecting the
imagePASS-E1 with the PC.
4) Return the imagePASS-E1’s Download switches to the original position (the direction far away from the
motherboard).
5) Reconnect all cables that you disconnected before downloading.
6) Turn the power of the copier and imagePASS-E1 on.
7) The Setup Menu will be entered automatically when selecting the “Printer” tab and the “Print Status/Settings”
button is pressed after the imagePASS-E1 launch completes successfully. Use the settings page printed before
installation to set up the imagePASS-E1. (At a minimum, set the settings in the order “Server Setup”,
“Network Setup”, and “Printer Setup” and save all item changes, or the “Done” button will not be enabled. If
a mistake is made in the order of the settings, the message “Please set XXX before setting XXX” will be
displayed, and the settings can not be made).
Once the settings are complete, select the “Done” button. The message “Restarting printer… Wait a moment…”
will appear, and the imagePASS-E1 will restart.
