Giraffe OmniBed, Incubator, OmniBed Carestation™, and Incubator Carestation devices. Refer to the tables
on page 12 for battery life determination.
Important:
• Install the UPS on GE devices according to the instructions in this addendum. It is acceptable for
some UPS vents to be blocked when the UPS is installed according to instructions.
• The battery replacement instructions in the Powervar Manual do apply to medical devices.
However:
– Powervar does not recommend replacing the battery when is it in use.
– Only qualified GE service personnel can replace the batteries on medical devices.

Important: GE Healthcare does not recommend connecting any other devices to the UPS.
— Connecting other devices to the AC outlets will reduce battery run time.
— The shields of the USB and RS-232 ports are not isolated. If medical devices are connected
to the USB and RS-232 ports, evaluate the electrical safety of the devices attached to
determine whether no hazard exists in normal and single-fault conditions.
8. Turn on the UPS and charge for a minimum of six hours. The installation is now complete.
For more details about the operation of the UPS or troubleshooting, refer to the Powervar Manual
(Security II Series Uninterruptible Power Manager).
Battery Life
On average, there are 200 recharge cycles when the UPS is used under the conditions specified in the
preceding tables. Use of the UPS for periods of time longer than those stated in the tables may cause the
battery life to be lower than 200 recharge cycles.
Important:
• For optimal battery life, charge the batteries for 6 hours to achieve 80% capacity, 24 hours to
achieve a full charge.
• Frequent incomplete charge cycles may reduce battery life.

Perform the following steps when securing equipment to a shelf before transport.
1. Push the metal clips onto the bottom of the shelf on opposite edges. To make it secure, push each clip
up with force until the clip is flat against the underside rim of the shelf (Figure 24).
2. Pull the ends of one set of straps over the side of the equipment. Snap the ends together. Pull the end of
the strap to tighten. Repeat with the second strap in the opposite direction of the equipment (Figure 25).
3. Ensure that the straps are tight and the equipment is secure (Figure 26).
