I
Introduction

A. Background
In our dormitory, it’s not really hard to find banana. Because, there are lots of
students that consumed this fruit. Banana has many benefit, among others are
sources of vitamin B6, good for your skin, minus the fats and cholesterol, good for
your heart health and blood pressure, aid digestion and help beat gastrointestinal
issues, and give you energy. Every day, there’re some banana peel in the trash bin.
As we know, there’re lots of kind organic trash that have potency to be bioenergy
source. One of them is banana peel that could change to be electrical energy.

B. Problem Formulation
a. How we can change banana peel to be electrical energy?
b. What mixture will produce more energy?
c. How big the energy that produce from banana peel?

C. Purpose of the Research

a. Knowing how to change banana peel to be electrical energy.
b. Knowing the most effective mixture that will produce bigger energy.
c. Knowing the effectiveness of banana peels as a source of bioenergy.
II
Literature Review

A. Banana Peel
Banana peel is the outer skin of the banana fruit. Banana peels are used as food
for animals, ingredients for cooking, purification of water, for the manufacture of
several biochemical products as well as for jokes and funny situations. And you
can also use banana peel waste as a substitute for carbon in batteries. Banana peels
can be used as conductors of electric current, because in banana peel waste there
are many kinds of electrolytes such as acetic acid, magnesium, zinc, and potassium
which are capable of conducting ions and electrons in the electrodes.

B. Bioenergy
Bioenergy is renewable energy that derived from living organic materials which
is generally biomass. Bioenergy could divide to be two categories, traditional and
modern. Traditional use refers to the combustion of biomass. Modern bioenergy
include biofuels, biogas and others.

C. Electrical Energy
Electrical energy is the energy derived from electric potential energy or kinetic
energy of the charged particles. In general, it is referred to as the energy that has
been converted from electric potential energy. We can define electrical energy as
the energy generated by the movement of electrons from one point to another.
The movement of charged particles along/through a medium (say wire) constitute
current or electricity.

For this research, we use :
- Battery tube
- Cutter
- Zinc
- Cable
- Banana peel
- Salt
- Water

D. Procedure
First of all, prepare every things that you’ll need in this experiment. And then,
follow this procedure :
1. Open the battery tube, clean and empty the tube.
2. V1 : Grind the banana peel together with 5 ml of plain water and leave it for
45 minutes.
V 2 : Grind a banana peel together with 5 ml of water and a quarter teaspoon
of salt, leave for 45 minutes.
3. Enter the mashed banana peel into the tube.
4. Place a small piece of zinc in the tube.
5. Connect with voltmeter and see the voltage.
6. If it work, you can connect this mini-energy source to other electronic that
having the appropriate voltage.

E. Success Rate
The success rate of this research could be reach 100%. Because, the results of
this research have exceeded our target.
IV
Result and Discussion

As we know, in banana peel there are many kinds of electrolytes such as acetic
acid, magnesium, zinc, and potassium. After we did several experiments, we found
out that banana peels can generate electrical energy even though the energy is small
because we only use 2-3 bananas.
To maximize effectiveness, we tried to combine the banana peel with other
variables. Two variables that we used are plain water and salt water.

Number of
Variables Fermentation
Battery Solution Voltage
Number Time
Tubes (AA)

V1 2 Plain water 45 minutes 3

V2 2 Salt water 45 minutes 4 - 4,5 v

Banana skin mashed with 5 ml of plain water will produce a voltage of 3 volts
after being left for 45 minutes. But a banana peel mashed with a quarter teaspoon
of salt and 5 ml of water will produce 4-4.5 volts after letting it sit for 45 minutes.
The use of salt here is useful not only as a voltage booster, but also as an effort
to preserve the mashed banana skin. After the experiment, we tried to save the
mashed banana peel for a week. And we know that we can’t keep them in open
state.
V
Conclusion

A. Banana peel had potency to be our alternative energy as bioenergy. Two slices
of banana peel that pureed with water can produce 3 volts. If there’re more
banana peel in around us, we can use it as our mini-energy source.
B. We can see the difference of V1 and V2 on the table. When we add salt to the
mashed banana peel, the tension also increases. From the table, we can see that
banana peels mashed together with salt water have a greater electrical voltage
than banana peels mashed only with plain water.
C. The amount of energy produced depends on the amount of banana peel and the
mixture used.
