PRE-TEST
MODULE 7

DIRECTIONS: Read the article.

Social networking sites have greatly affected the youth of today. Sites such as

Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have created both positive and negative effects to

the Filipino youth.

One of the positive effects that I would like to focus on is the established and

strengthened relationship that is observable among the youth. Friends who haven’t

met for so long are reconnected through these sites. In just one click, they will be

able to connect with their friends and loved ones again. Ironically, the demand of

strong presence to these sites creates gap to those who are physically close and near

to them. Instead of making time and enjoying the moments with their family, an

invisible world and boundaries are created. With that then, many youth are

misunderstood and many parents have been complaining due to such effects.

Knowing these effects, an important action must have to be undertaken both

of the youth and the parents. They have to be responsible and aware of the

significance and the role of these sites to communication and to their lives.

Remember, these sites are created to be of used and not to be abused.

Identify whether the ideas presented in the article is relevant or irrelevant. Write R

if it is Relevant and IR if it is Irrelevant.

___________1. Social networking sites reconnect people to the world.

___________2. Facebook might create gap among family members.

___________3. Due to social networking sites, many youth are misunderstood.

5
___________4. Reconnecting to friends is one of the positive effects of social

networking sites.
___________5. Social networking sites are mostly abused by teenagers.

___________6. It is the sole responsibility of the parents to control their child’s

exposure to social media.

___________7. Parents are worried to the youth’s addiction to social networking

sites.

___________8. Youth are responsible users of social media.

___________9. Social networking sites are not good to the youth.

___________10. Facebook strengthens the bonds of the family members.

Identify the irrelevant sentence in each passage. Write the letter of your
choice.

Ideas

Were you able to explain your point? Heads Up!

The information presented in the video clip/pictures is an example of

relevant and truthful ideas.

How do we know if the ideas are relevant?

A relevant idea should contain information that supports the

point or subject of the material. These are in a form of an article,
conversation or even pictures.

How do we know if the information is truthful?

With an avalanche of information coming from news media,

critical thinking is an essential skill that allows you to hand-pick truthful

information. In order to save time searching for initial sources and

reading the studies on which an article was based, fact checking must be

done. This only means that the ideas or information is truthful once it

is verifiable and repeatable.
