INTRODUCTION
In order to ensure continued growth and strengthening of the Ocean Decade brand,
a strong visual identity is imperative. These brand guidelines embody the mission,
vision, and values of the Decade whose objective is to connect with the global
audience, gathering a wide range of stakeholders to support ocean science that
is fit for purpose.

All the materials provided have been carefully combined to provide various options
for using the logo. We invite you to review the following carefully: you may only use
the logo in compliance with these requirements.

WHAT IS THE UN DECADE OF OCEAN SCIENCE

FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ABOUT?
The main motivation for the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable
Development is to support efforts to reverse the cycle of decline in ocean health
and create improved conditions for sustainable development of the ocean.

Society now depends on the ocean more than at any time before. It is a vital
source of nourishment, supporting directly the livelihood of about 500 million
people, especially in the poorest nations. Ocean economies are among the most
rapidly growing and promising in the world, providing benefits to many sectors
of great economic value, such as fisheries, transport, biotechnologies, energy
production, seabed resources exploration, tourism and many others.

Adaptation and strategies policy responses to global change are urgently needed.
The ambition of the Ocean Decade is to provide a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity
to create a new foundation, across the science-policy interface, to strengthen
the management of the ocean.

OFFICIAL LOGO LOGOMARK

The shape of a wheel is the symbol of the Ocean Decade,

representing everything it embodies: a solution to address
the 17 sustainable goals and a snowball effect to reverse
the cycle of decline in ocean health.

The logo consists of a series of waves with the lettering

“UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development
(2021-2030). The brushed graphic aspect of the logo
highlights the strength of the ocean, its circular shape
represents the constant and fast dynamism of ocean
science, as well as the inclusion of different coloured
shapes induce the inclusion of all scientific disciplines.

The official logo makes up the foundation for the rest

of the logo levels and must never be altered in any form.
It is considered as the main version of the logo and should
be used as much as possible. United Nations Decade

UN ENTITIES
For entities within the UN system, the request form
for endorsement is not necessary: UN entities
automatically have the permission to use the Ocean
Decade emblem and icons.

It is however necessary to provide UNESCO’s

Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (UN entity
in charge of the Ocean Decade) with the activity report
of the proposed activity.

Please note that logo can be use associated with

UN entities logos.

LOGO COLOURWAYS

The logo is based on the combination of nine different

colours, derived from identifying colours of the Sustainable
Development Goals. The preferred logo must be this
one (full colour) to better enhance the Ocean Decade

✓ ENSURE A MARGIN, THE HEIGHT OF THE NUMBER 0, AROUND THE LOGOTYPE.

Space where no other elements may be placed to let

the logo breathe. A margin around the logo was defined
using the number 0*. It determines the zone that protects
the logo against any other graphical features.

LANGUAGES

The United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for

Sustainable Development logo is available in the
six official United Nations languages: Arabic, Chinese, 联合国海洋科学促
English, French, Russian and Spanish. Users of the logo
are encouraged to translate the text into local languages, 进可持续发展十年
but they will state clearly that they are solely responsible

A key component of the Ocean Decade is its identifying

STATIONERY

The logo should be discretely placed on promotional items.

When producing coloured items, select either a neutral
colour such as white or a colour from the primary colour
palette. When printing the logo onto coloured items ensure
you are using the white or reversed version.

Please note that the use of the logo of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development can only be authorized
for a short-term period (4 weeks) and is only pertinent for short-term initiatives and stand-alone events. This Request Form
is not to be used to promote longer-term initiatives or projects (months, years). For these longer-term cases, use of the logo
will be authorized on a case-by-case basis, or contemplated in official agreements or partnerships with the United Nations.
