Answer: 500 ÷ 50 = 10. Therefore, she will get ten Rs 50 notes.
b) All Rs 10 notes
Answer: 500 ÷ 10 = 50. Therefore, she will get fifty Rs 10 notes.
8) Divide 160 by 20 by repeated subtraction method and then check
your answer by multiplication.
Answer: 160 – 20 = 140, 140 – 20 = 120, 120 – 20 = 100, 100 – 20
= 80, 80 – 20 = 60, 60 – 20 = 40, 40 – 20 = 20, 20 – 20 = 0
Therefore, 160 ÷ 20 = 8.
Now, 8 × 20 = 160. This verifies the answer.

a) The rate of 100 bricks is Rs 450. Rajesh requires 3000 bricks to build
his house. How much money does he has to pay for the bricks?
Answer: The cost of 100 bricks = Rs 400.
The cost of 1 brick = 400 ÷ 100
= Rs 4.
The number of bricks required to build a house = 3000.
Total cost = Rs 3000 × 4
= Rs 12,000.

Therefore, he has to pay Rs 12,000 for the bricks.
b) A junk seller bought 1 kg of newspapers at Rs 47. He sold 14 kg of
newspapers at Rs 602. Find his profit or loss.
Answer: The cost price of 1 kg newspapers = Rs 47.
The cost price of 14 kg newspapers = Rs 47 × 14
= Rs 658.
The cost price of 14 kg newspaper = Rs 658
The selling price of 14 kg newspaper = Rs 602.
Loss = Rs 658 – 602.
= Rs 56
c) 8 busses can carry 192 children. How many busses are required to
carry 72 children?
Answer: Number of children 8 busses can carry = 192.
Number of children 1 bus will carry = 192 ÷ 8 = 24
Number of busses required for 72 children = 72 ÷ 24
=3
Therefore, 3 busses are required to carry 72 children.

10) Ritu has 100 m lace to make border of a table cloth. Following
is the picture of a tablecloth. Look at the picture and answer the
following questions:

a) How much lace is required to make one tablecloth?


Answer: The opposites sides of the tablecloth are equal in length.
The lace required = 4 m 25 cm + 4 m 25 cm + 3 m 25 cm + 3 m 25
cm.

= 14 m 100 cm
= 15 m
Therefore, 15 m lace is required to make one tablecloth.
b) How much lace will be required for 4 such tablecloths?
Answer: Lace required in 1 tablecloth = 15 m

= 60 m
c) Find the lace that will left after making 4 table tablecloths?
Answer: Total lace Ritu has = 100 m
Lace required for 4 tablecloths = 60 m
Lace left = 100 m – 60 m
= 40 m
11) John uses 9 kg 500 g of cotton to make one mattress.
a) How much cotton is required to make 10 such mattresses?
Answer: 1 kg = 1000 g. Therefore, 9 kg = 9000 g, and 9 kg 500 g =
9000 + 500 = 9500 g.
Cotton required to make 1 mattress = 9500 g
Cotton required to make 10 mattress = 9500 × 10 g.
= 95000 g
= 95000 ÷ 1000 kg
= 95 kg
b) If he had 133 kg of cotton. How many mattresses can he make?
Answer: 133 kg = 133000 g.
Cotton required to make 1 mattress = 9500 g
Cotton available = 133000 g

Number of mattresses that can be made = 133000 g ÷ 9500 g

12) What is the area of the square of side 4 m? How many square
pieces of side 200 cm can be cut from it?
Answer: Side of square = 4 m
Area of square = 4 m × 4 m
= 16 square m
Side of one small square = 200 cm = 2 m
Area of one small square = 2 m × 2 m
= 4 square m
Number of squares = 16 ÷ 4 = 4
13) There are 40 balls one-quarter of them are red and the rest are
white.
a) Find the number of red and white balls.
Answer: Total number of balls = 40

14) A man gives different types of bicycles on rent. Following is the


rates chart:
Cycle Rate
Mountain Bicycle Rs 190.45 per hour
Road Bicycle Rs 72.5 per half hour
City Bicycle Rs 157.75 per hour
Folding Bicycle Rs 4 per minute

Look into the rates chart and answer the following questions:
a) Which bicycle cost the least and the most.
Answer: Cost of the mountain bicycle = Rs 190.45 per hour.
Cost of the road bicycle = 72.50 per half hour = 72.50 × 2 = Rs 145
per hour.
Cost of the city bicycle = Rs 157.75 per hour.
Cost of the folding bicycle = Rs 4 per minute = Rs 4 × 60 = Rs 240
per hour.
Therefore, the road bicycle costs the least and the folding bicycle
costs the most.
b) If Rajesh went on a ride on the mountain bicycle and Ramesh on
the folding bicycle for 2 hours. Who paid more?

Answer: The cost of the mountain bicycle = Rs 190.45 per hour.
Amount paid by Rajesh = 190.45 × 2 = Rs 380.90
The cost of the folding bicycle = 240 per hour.
Amount paid by Ramesh = Rs 240 × 2 = Rs 480
Therefore, Ramesh paid more.
