1. What do you think are the functions of
art? Enumerate and elaborate on each
functions.

The nature and function of art is influenced by traditional western

aesthetics such as Plato’s concept of beauty as the ideal form, Kant’s
disinterested contemplation, and Bell’s formalist perspective. While art is an
outcome of individual imagination and creative agency, it is also the product of
prevailing ideologies and canons. Canon is defined in Art History: The Basics by
Pooke and Newall as a “judgement of value or quality” mainly established by
academies. Canon is the standard that artists are expected to adhere to, a way
of doing that is bound to specific materials, colors, measurements, proportions,
and arrangement of elements.

There are many functions of the arts, and these function can be
categorize into physical, personal and social. Physical function of the arts can be
seen as architecture, using art as a decoration. The physical functions of art are
often the easiest to understand. Works of art that are created to perform some
service have physical functions. If you see a Fijian war club, you may assume
that, however wonderful the craftsmanship may be, it was created to perform the
physical function of smashing skulls. Personal function of the arts would include
therapeutic art, self-expression, leisure and entertainment needs. The personal
functions of art are often the most difficult to explain. There are many types of
personal function, and they are subjective and will, therefore, vary from person to
person. An artist may create out of a need for self-expression, or gratification.
S/he might have wanted to communicate a thought or point to the viewer.
Perhaps the artist was trying to provide an aesthetic experience, both for self and
viewers. A piece might have been meant to "merely" entertain others. Sometimes
a piece isn't meant to have any meaning at all. Lastly, the social function of the
art is what makes art so important, art has the power to influence people and
raise awareness about social issues, and these type of art would include art like
political art and forum theatre. Art has a social function when it addresses
aspects of (collective) life, as opposed to one person's point of view or
experience. Art that depicts social conditions performs social functions. The
Realists figured this out early in the 19th century. Dorothea Lange (and, indeed,
many other photographers) often photographed people in conditions we'd rather
not think about.
2. Who is your most favorite artist (e.g.,
musician, writer, actor, painter etc.)?
Why?

Whenever I was asked by this question I always

answer as fast as possible the Music artist
Conan Gray. A musician that made me love
music more and let me be part of his listeners.
Also, whenever someone asks for artist or song
recommendations, he is on the top of the list.
Well, the reason behind this is because of the
way his music influence me and how it gave me
positive impact and a little bit sadness, anger,
regret, grief, enthusiast and nostalgia. Why so
much emotions? Because that's the way he
connect to his listeners. He makes sure that the

CONAN song specifically the lyrics is relatable. The way

I am related and feel his emotions and feelings

GRAY
through his song is superb and spectacular. He
uses his experience, his heartbreaks, and
everything that our generation irrefutably will
feel and experience the same thing he
experience and feel.

Furthermore, I think one of the reason why he

became my favorite musician is because the
way he love and how dedicated he is in his art
which is music. As well as how words or lyrics
he wrote for every songs he made were full of
emotions and different vibes. And lastly, of
course his voice. He has this female register
kind of voice, that can be as low as like a man
but can also be as high as a woman can do.
3. If you were an artist,
what kind of artist
would you be? Why?

If I were to be an artist I
believe I would be a Poet.
used to write poems
whenever I feel sad,
confused, angry, happy,
excited or frustrated, this
enable me to express the
feelings, emotions and
thoughts I have. Writing
poem stands as my way of
telling everyone, friends or
readers how my days went,
what I've been going
through, what is my
situation, my past, my
experiences, my subjective
and objective opinion on
one topic, about social issues
and even the lessons I've
learned throughout my life.

This poem entitled 'Perfume' was written because I fall in love with someone that already
dealing with someone which is my friend. For me, or even for everyone, poems or poetry is a
work of art as it's a literary art wherein it has ideals connected with the exclusive concern
with representation and direct attention to other aspects of art, such as the expression of the
artist and the experience of the audience. And according to Plato, poetry is like painting, that
is a representation or imitation (mimesis) of different objects and features of the world,
including human beings and their actions, and that it had a powerful effect on emotions.
Poetry follows the canon of rhymes, stanzas, and lines. Using poetry or writing a poem as a
way of expressing one's feelings, emotions and thoughts can be quite helpful, especially to
those who can't tell their true intentions, thoughts and opinions to a certain person, topic and
issue metaphorically or figuratively. Contrary to the belief that writing poetry is just like
writing a letter where you will just going to narrate or tell everything literally and direct to
the point.
